I’ve had this for years now; what really brought it to the fore was whilst learning how to ‘drown’ for triathlons. I was savaging myself into what can only be described as poor technique + bloody mindedness O2 det! I had the 24hr ECG which id’d an ectopic beat caused by a rogue/confused/damaged/bored/belligerent cardiac cell sparking off and interrupting the cardiac electrical ‘wave’ that sweeps across the organ.

Likewise, I too experience the ‘jump’ or exaggerated/jumping beat, as mentioned. This is apparently caused (I might get this horribly wrong so don’t go quoting me) by the aortic valve slamming shut after just having a larger volume of blood shoved through and thus the back pressure had been increased towards the heart – clearly this valve has to prevent back flow.

    I’m 76% confident that’s about right.

Mine kicks off big time if I’m tired, not physical (in fact it goes once my heart rate is up) but say after a long drive on top of poor sleep. Laying on my back increases the sensation, prone lying is best.
As all have said, it’s fine….loads of folk have em however I’d prefer to go back to my 20s when such things were nothing more than a journal article :(

Thanks for the advice. From the pickies I was kind of hoping it to be light; I rushed into buying an Easton Vice (from off STC) and it’s simply too ‘Burly’ for my All Marketing rig (XC tbh). Ideally, I was after an Easton 50mm, light as to match things up but they don’t seem to produce one.

BTW, when I do change the vice 1st shout gets the easton free…as it was only a tenner.

Can’t argue with that indeed

Aside: Having ‘issue’ letting the RM Slayer go, had it for ages….I admit it’s rather sad. (braces for torrent of abuse)

Fair points, at least the soul has a large product testing data base. Bol, I have thought about the 29r …I’m guessing it climbs well??

Umm, I’ve never heard of any car/van that did not require some sort of cam related service at the 80 to 90k phase (I don’t know about vans mind)….be it belt or chain???

Mate, we are popping out your way in October with the view to moving in the following year.

I’ll catch up with you in about 18 months then….

Cheers for all the advice, esp as this topic is kind of yesterday’s news.

Reading the threads, and being honest about my skills level, I’m sure that I should be going for the Soul, Piglet end of the market.

Yet, as pathetic as this is going to sound, the soul can’t take a reverb :(

God, I annoy myslef  :D

Please tell me this was an April fool type thing?

It’s nothing special at all, I simply can’t understand why folks like the brand – reeks of ‘upper management cycling wanna be’ to me. I often play ‘spot the white banded fat knacker who’s been dropped ‘ with my children.

    Hours of fun…..’pop’….there goes another….

Great product image, yet missing from their webshite??

    Slightly LOC,

After using Tri specific shoes (for road) i’ll not go back to multi-buckle faffing, they really are POP to don/doff. Shimano ultegra pedals, prob get the lot of flebay for cheap.

Depends on the hills & what time you start.

I found that, even with showers and lockers, there’s a degree of admin that one inevitably carries. Hence, the rucksack ceased to be a tools, sarnies and bladder functional item. After a week or so I began to ‘understand’ the ‘fit-for-purpose-beauty’ of the otherwise hideous panniers….yes, you will want them….you will ‘lust’ for them….they will save your lumbar spine & wrists.

Unless you’re allowed to work in cycling gear, or you’ve pre-loaded your locker with a weeks-worth of office garb, towel, shower kit, spare undies…socks, food (can get expensive if you ‘eat out’).
Having come across as bit of a ‘party-pooper’, my C2W days were the best ever….hope to be doing it all again soon.

Let us know how you got round things, folks ingenuity never ceases to amaze me.

OB thanks, you know I thought as much – same as how the road groupos went.

That’s great, defo invest in some 10sp shifter then.

You see, STW is faster than me at data acquisition.

I would not condider using tubeless without a bit of stans inside. As for burping, well those on here might remember my virgin rant about the front tyre burping and deflating rapido during a rocky down hill in the peak – perminant ‘dink’ on a lovely new rim :(

Since then, with a broader understanding, I’ve never had a puncture or tyre burp….with stacks of down-hill rocky action. Had a leaky valve that I didn’t seal properly, initially, that’s about it.

Yesterday, collected wheels after re-tune post pro 2 evo build. Pulled all the old stans off, applied babyoil gel to the bead (as posted before on here) and bang. Up they both went with my trusty race foot pump as per without any probs. No CO2 or visit to the garage faffing.

I’ve told you about holding the wheel off the floor right?

If it were me, I’d save a bit more; wheels, apart from the frame, are prob the most significant upgrade one can make IMO. Cheap roadie wheels flex loads on climbs, esp. if your a hunky chunky type.

It’s definitely a case of you buy cheap, you buy twice here…unless it’s for a commute hack etc.

I’m not that keen on off the peg, but if you can get hold of an older (2003/4) set of Ksyrium SSC that have been looked after then go for them.

I worked with a lad who was in the GB roadie squad (northern chapter) who raced on them…i road his race bike and it was stiff, no flex under load.

If your gonna be racing, then save up a bit more.

Sorry, didn’t explain that well at all. I didn’t plan to use a road cassette on an MTB freehub. On my old road bike, (9sp) I upgrade to 10sp drive train. The 10sp could be used on the 9sp freehub with a shim behind it.

I was wondering if the same method applied to MTB, that one could use a 10sp mtb cassette on a 9sp MTB freehub.

But they won’t fit, would this be correct? I understand the shifter and other bits.

Thanks for getting back, sorry about the confusion

    Oh,

You can not use an MTB tyre, has to be a slick.

Tacx Flow, and you can eventually upgrade to imagic if you wish. I’ve used (cheaper) mechanical adjusted types that use gel or oil and they simply can not match the magnetic ‘break’ of the flow.

+ they don’t piss oil onto your floor when the go wrong (the cheap ones).

I’ve had mine for 6 years trouble free beasting. Touch screen adjustment, power readings and the like.

Only gripe is you can’t download data to PC….perhaps on the new(er) versions.

    Get one, they’re ace.

Little bit of KY on the bead (or Fairy liquid) then hold the wheel off the ground while inflating; works every time.

Tell me your using stans fluid? I’ll not sleep at night else *concerned smiley*

EDIT: To maintain inflation bliss, you’ll need to remove the tyre and pull the cured stans off the bead area + the rim itself…depends how quickly you go through tyres.

I prefer the JL start, granted it’s a savage ‘warm-up’ but the other side climb is just dull as IMO. Also, the downy sections of the BW after you’ve climbed out of Coldwell are a hoot.

    But who am I? …but a worm.

I’m sure my old ultegra 10sp had a thin chain, compared to the 9sp. Hence, it’s going to rattle round those rings…I’m guessing?? If it were me, I’d not go ahead with it…get the correct bits.

    :)
