Agree with Onza and rickt,Group off road, either/or way on road.

Reason: group MTB outings provide multiple comedy moments. There is nothing quite so amusing as the witnessing of man meets muddy rut, followed by a rapid dismount….no wait, the front wheel ½ endo, slow mo, gonands meet headtube has to be up there….happy days ?

Thanks again folks. I guess the first thing we all dive for is Google when looking for anything these days; maybe concentrate our efforts on a healthy web presence.

RNP: wow, that’s not a good return. So much I hadn’t given a thought to, esp folks not wanting a car parked outside informing the neighbours.

FunkyDunc – that is very interesting, why? Clearly, I’ll be setting up a webpage that explains what experience and rehab MO I tend to adopt – this is what the advertising would be geared for – to direct you to more info.

I’m interested as to the psychology behind that statement. Please don’t misinterpret that FD, I’m not attempting to troll, or have a dig; just really interested as your thought process might change my ideas. Is it the unknown, or lack of WOM?

    Cheers.

Thanks for all the FB, I hadn’t considered the lease option or the fact that the A2 would look too old; it really does pay to ask questions.

    Many thanks.

Have a cracking xmas and NY

    Jonathan,

I take it that photo is of yours racing? I’m trying to find a race circuit for my lads to get into, and advice would be great.

    Thanks.

Hey DezB & Kimbers….tell ya what’s funnier, the rubber shock absorbers in forks and seat-stays, connected by high modulus carbon links thus directing the majority of the shock force erm, along the tube??

Hence bikes, not aircraft – I’ve always hated Specialized bikes, can’t bring myself to even look at that pig-ugly…what was it called ‘intelligent rear shock system’, or ‘reactive’,…I forget, but it placed the rear sus next to the seat stay. Like I said, pig-ugly.

Never even want to hear the name again, let’s talk about in-house hand-crafted bikes as opposed to mass-produced ‘tat’.

Erm………………….my old rocky mountain then

    oh, and this company?

http://www.colnago.com/m10s/ oh god, something has just happened 8O

Ah, winch – never get bored of wheelie-popping dude, that would have made excellent posthumous-pootle video material.

Good effort dazh, you’re nails! I feel so pathetic now 8O

    …finally stopped drinking tea!

Having been the victim of decorating torture (all summer), being out today with such a fine bunch of humans was very much appreciated. Much thanks to Pook for setting it all up, the group leaders and an esp. thx the gate ‘keepers’ who made the ups and downs even more ‘wild’.

Rich, chatting with your lad and watching him negotiate the challenges was brills – so wish my two could have seen him, what a tough guy. Likewise, the beautiful lady with the large wheels and stiff front end was equally impressive – I’m so inadequate on my full bouncer(ish).

Crazylegs; you’re just a loony on that thing, thanks for nearly giving me a MI when you ‘flashed’ passed me climbing out of jaggers on the way home.

Dreadlock Wheelie Man (again, didn’t catch your handle or name…sorry) – legend, as discussed on the bridge I did try and copy your amazing bunny-hop-jump-tail-flick thing, but instead of leaving the ground I just looked like I was fitting.

Gent from South Kilworth, post up when your gang is out again as I’d love to cycle the routes around my old stomping-ground.

Gent from Long-Buckby – great to share some mud and equally interesting dialogue with you :)

Cake was uber nice, esp. the ginger (in car park) and the lemon drizzle (in pub) – didn’t catch your ‘handle’ but nice one for bringing it along.

    Can’t wait until next time…awesome.

PS: What about a nocturnal pootle-ette spin-off, say Mon or Thurs eves?

It’s the car park near the stn isn’t it? Sure that’s in the tread somewhere – could always follow the traffic jam 8O

EDIT: Would some kind person with Hope Pro2 knowledge have a waggle of my rear wheel on Sun….it’s got some play in it. I’ve used them about 15/20 times – 90% of that following my lads over easy(ish) ground, couple of peak rides. Seems a bit pants, considering my XT’s were essentially fine…and old.

I was going to bake mini-victoria sponges but looking at the attendance list that would require cottage-industrial organisation.

What about x 3 cakes, 30+ sarni bags and a large knife??

EDIT: x6 cakes with 70+ sarni bags 8O

Oh yes, after musing about loosing my mojo to cycle solo these days I shot out to Hope last night and, as was for the OP, was bathed in full-moonlight, clear views – the moon on the Derwent was fantastic.

Not a sole/LED to be seen?

Had a really hairy moment when the lead came out of lamp descending Blackley Hey OMG 8O.

I simply can not wait until I can get out again – hello MOJO…

Two weekends ago I ‘dragged’ my failing carcass up Jacobs. There was construction work being conducted on the section after Coldwell Clough. No probs, they workmen let us through (welcome rest TBH)…but there were only three of us mind.

It is becoming an issue, I’ve been ‘zapped’ approximately 5 times over the last 3 weeks. I think it’s born from the assumption that being seen raises survival rates – which I buy into tbh. However, it’s actually putting other road users at risk because it forces the car/bus/truck driver to either turn away or close their eye to avoid the pain – a similar phenomenon are the Audi lights, which are OTT in my opinion.

Either way, I turn my lights down on the road.

Just a thought/aside: on evening my headlight slipped and essentially illuminated me and my bike in sort of alien tracktor beam styli….perhaps an up-lighter from the BB might be a useful addition?

I have the utmost respect of the Police for not making the rather sad little man eat his camera. Why would anyone a) hate the police and b) behave in such an antagonistic manner? This guy’s attitude would soon change if he was knocked off his bike and the Policemen involved witnessed the event that secured prosecution.

If you look at the amount of cycle/bus lane remaining it’s approximately 30-40 ft; a moot point if any.

What really occurred is that this guy was clearly enjoying (fair enough) zipping along and became enraged (adrenalised) because ‘his’ route was occupied/blocked. He then proceeded to ‘vent’ his emotion towards the police.

forget all the websites and reading page after page of techno babble OK.
When I rebuilt both my front and rear (819s onto Hope P2’s) I simply took the wheels out of my wife’s bike and copied the ‘lace-up’.

I suffer from intermittent stupidity; but found this task extremely easy….fun in fact!

Don’t know where you are, but if you’re close(ish) to the Peak I’ll lend you the ‘standard’ wheels for the task.

    Enjoy

    Hi SWE,

..and to my shame it’s to fix holes that don’t involve the sidewall or base of the tread knobble (both of which Stans failed to seal..fair enough as they were large. The kit has stick string which you coat with repair glue then push through the hole. I love the theory, but I’m failing to obtain and air-tight seal.

    Just googled this:

Jekkyl; it was dark, 11+pm, I was doing about 40mph. However my Audi headlights are outstanding and I could clearly see he was riding a piece of sh1te that would make even my old crate look ‘Bauhaus’.

Finally, I can actually make a Pootle event YEEEHAAAA.

I plan to bake large quantities of mini-Victoria sponges (cup genre), iced; finished with either a Jelly-Tot, Smartie or other – open to suggestions/mini-poll?

They’ll be carried throughout the day, in case of emergency

Whilst working at a world-renowned centre of rehab excellence (2012) the guys who made and designed them delivered a training/education session. Once all the sexy inter-connectivity bits and bobs had been explained, the ONLY advantage over a good quality turbo (tacx flow etc) I could find (and I ‘lived’ on my turbo ‘back in the day’) and their main selling point THB was the very useful graph output that essentially joins the downward power curve with the (same leg/side) upward power curve thus presenting the user with a very useful insight to their pedal efficiency.

Chirs Hoy’s graph was almost a perfect circle, without any flat spots at ‘top’ & ‘bottom’. Mine was initially like a number eight that over a couple of weeks I managed to expand out to a constant sized monkey nut/ellipse shape – our power output was the same, obviously

Downside, the threads on the seat-clamp and bar adjustment fudge up (hope they’ve been upgraded) and they seemed to break-down a fair bit – but they (bikes) did see a fair hammering tbh.

Useful yes, better or equal to a tacx flow with YOUR own bike (geometry) – not even close.

I’ll help you out if you like? I’m a physiotherapist; have worked at Headley Court (6 months), constructing personal and group rehab sessions. My special interest is functional (all levels) rehab/pre-hab/screening…which is what you’re seeking.

If you’re close to Sheffield/Chesterfield then pm me. I take all currency, esp. JD

As above, the ‘grin’ factor, coupled with the feeling of ‘living’ does it for me, probably more than day riding. Don’t take that amiss, I love summer rides and lust for those hazy vistas but night riding, I guess, feels a tad naughty??

    Fun fun fun.

I draw so much satisfaction from being intelligent; you know….looking past the immediate chaos to the calm waters beyond. You see, you’ve all rushed out and purchased those horrible ‘binary’ lights from ‘Jonny Foreigner’ when you should have modified your old set – remote switch ‘Sugru’ moulded to ‘fit-like-a-glove’ onto the STI bracket thus alleviating the need to remove ones hand(s) to change settings (I know, you’re jealous, but it’s ok, I don’t think any less of you). Programmable driver (7) levels, no need for plastic pipe ‘faffery’, stopping to adjust/dip/cover…etc etc.
    God I’m good.

P.S. Thanks Troutie, and cohort for being such‘illuminating’ inspirations.

P.P.S. Anyone up for a night ride?

Um, let me see. Shall I start out on 500, then ‘tease’ it up to 2k for the DH section? Or, take it easy and enjoy the proprioceptive benefits on, say, 1000…no wait, 1500. Choices, choices………..

Come on, I bet I’ve cheered you all up?
