    Caught this one late,

Good choice, don't fudge it all up by using tyres that'll compromise the seal. You must WITHOUT DOUBT …
    A) use ust tyres that go 'ping/thump/thudd' or what ever you like to use as a descriptive noun as the bead locates into the UST rim. I failed to do this on my virgin outing and I have a nice little dent in my front 819 as the tyre 'burped' off! Don't worry, read on….
    B) Pure in Stan's, spin wheel (post inflation; I use a standard Track pump…never had a problem inflating so long as you hold the wheel off the ground as you blast the air in), turning onto it's side as it rotates.
    C) Check the line (on tyre) that sits just above the rim all the way round to ensure even seating of the bead.
    D) Deflate on ride to optimum pressure.
    E) Go out and hammer them, I have LUST up front (very happy with it) and what I and others considered and a pants tyre on the rear…Conti MT King UST. Yet, keeping an eye on pressure b4 each ride as it does 'seep' air, it's been a great all round tyre that's performed very well over diff terrain. I'm sure GWT will support my claim of hammering rocky Peak trails without so much as 'whiff' of air from the rubber :)

    F) Ensure, with your new found confidence, that you 'Unlock' your rear unit pre-down hill hammer as they can indeed be bent…my rims currently feature a front 'wobble' and a rear 'bob' respectively.
Hope this helps you, and saves you some time and heart ache :)
Forgive me repeating what's gone before…I feel 'cleansed' now :)

Slight tangent…what helmet job would yawl recomm'd? Don't want to pay sh*t loads …(can't get over "only £450" for a 6 led unit).

GWT did send me some info on these, but I'd be interested in what the masses use/abuse?

    me again,

I found this 'snap-shot' of the condition that describes it well, in a cycling context.

    Worth a read

That's gonna be messy when it's time to replace – what about the blue physio strapping tape one can purchase from Wilco or Tesco?

I think the old innertube wins my vote, bit heavy tho – used used Durex?

    Oooow,

Not read the entire thread, but I posted very similar thread couple of years back on TriTalk, varied response. The tipping point for me was the price of Duc 916 vs a Stork road bike….I still can get my head round it but it boils down to demand.

We keep paying it, they'll put the prices up and up a up….

I hear what you say Dirty Rider, and you do have a point. However, if you conduct enough research (I’m a self-confessed geek on this aspect, I’ll trawl all the TT, Tri, Roadie, MTB sites etc) you can form an educated decision…stacking the odds in one's own favour – patterns do emerge. On that point, I don't take any notice of Magazine reviews (I'll not go there) …the people will decide :)

As was the case with Rapha, I would say 85-92(+ – 4ish)% of the readers/users/owners reviews I read conveyed a message of disappointment; which isn’t the statistic I’m looking for.
It was the complete inverse for the Gore Oxygen, hence my decision.

    Hope this helps :)

It's a 'tick' I'd like to collect, but it'd mean going out specifically to (dare I say it)train on it…which would be a tad boring ang against that freedom thing of 'let's ride,….man' :)

I'm driving up from Chesterfield, could stuff another bike, maybe two without wheels fitted, if anyone requires a lift?

Ionic interaction LMAO, I'll put my money on a 'size mis-match – delaminating' combo. Yes, some metals will react with each other but, more often than not, they have undergone 'some' 'type' of force to bring them into close proximity to initiate corrosive cascade. I would also expect the oxidation from the frame (dust like stuff, usually white on alloy) to clog up the carbon, even becoming 'glued' into due to the frictional (heat) of the seat post moving in the tube.

For carbon to bond (ironically) with a metal it would have to loose some of its electrons which would require more energy than someone's fat arse sitting on it for 6hrs, or a hairdryer FFS!

How amusing the lay person can be :)

Stands well back for onslaught :)

Silly question, but have you taken the clamp right off the seat tube and tried 'torquing' the clamp splice (huge screw driver or bolster, hand twisting only)?

Decorating (doing it righ now, well not right right now), esp. cutting in the corners with next colour paint. I fudging hate it!!!!!!!!

I have 819's, now I've sorted how to seat them (lube baby, lube…not petrol based) and fit with Stans I'll never go back to tubes. Everytime I go out I hammer the rock downhill bits and no pinch-flats.

I went through a 'what have I done' phase when I dinked the rim (not stans, not seated properly…knumpty newbie schoolboy error) but, like I say, they tick all the boxes I wanted to tick.

I've not read this thread properly, so apologies if I've gone off on a tangent.

Skip to point 3 if you can ‘t be arsed with my reasoning/debate/rant

    1. Rapha, if you do some digging you’ll find out their products aint that great…considering the price + press! I nearly fell for their marketing shite until I had and epiphany that they’re a bunch of pretentious brits trying to be chic…sorry lads, but the black-n-white phots of you on holiday in Europe aint getting me to part with my hard earned.

    2. Assos, awesome; had a Proline jersey with windbloc…but one has to accept getting wet… but warm (I’ll be revisiting this option).

    3. GORE OXYGEN IV: the reviews speak volumes – I’m going for one of these first, road and mtb, then I’ll save mi pennies and complete with an Assos.
Hope this helps, bottom line; go for a company with HISTORY. You can’t learn experience!

After a few years in the saddle I'm well out the lycra closet, nothing else comes close, performance remains constant even when soaked to the skin. Anything baggy/nearly baggy useless when wet, esp over long distance, I've not researched the following statement (will do a retro search) but I'll bet my pearl izumi shorts the xc racers wear lycra :)

Last time I was that wet, I was attached to a placenta! I can’t believe I passed up the opportunity to reply with …“yes, but my Martini is still dry” …when it was noted just how soaked I appeared to be.

Total grin factor all the way, nice one :)

Link to lights site GWT, pretty pls?

Erm, sorry but I'm out due to the weather. I don't mind getting caught in it but I ain't going out in a thunderstorm out of choice.

So, a rain check until the current wet period breaks a little?

I expect to be ran out the Shire for this :)

..guess what my friend picked up from the trail today at approximately 11:40am?

    …a bright yellow water bottle.

    QED.

Go to decathlon, purchace their 'almost too perfectly sized' pack and bladder for £14 and forget taping tubes and bending cages and, above all, having to wear a roadie jersey on the trail (so last season darlings)….OH, and HTFU! :)

PS: What amount of spares are you all packing away anyway?? Couple of tubes, some patches and some money…gels – for local rides anyway.

    :)

I had a really nice ORCA merino-lyra (I think) base top that I have to admit was better than my current Icebreaker – however my wife sent it to the charity shop along with her old sh*te…. have I already mentioned that, oh sorry :)

No, they use a sticky/tacky/dreadloc/braid/string – like bit of stuff that one coats in standard patch glue then prod through said hole in tyre leaving the ends 'hanging in the breeze' (don't trim them).

Think of them as a kind of 'semi' butt-plug affair, or am I just being plain coarse and disgusting *shock* :)

    Juan,

What 'weight' is your top, as unlike lifa/synthetic stuff merino give you a choice of 'Denier' (oooow Matron) 200 absolute max in current heat.

    Anyone care to concur?

I tried Giordana Tenax (sp?) but could not get on with them. I'm using Peal Izumi atm, far better and they're just the simple/not bibs draw-cord type! Way more comfort'b than the Ten-pants :) Think I paid $35 for them new on ebay *wink*

In my other life I'm a roadie…and I too hate the 'Roadie' look. That Spec'd jersey is pants if you ask me?

I can accept Assos gear, but that's about it.

    Yet, who am I?

Get yourself some Icebreaker merino (150, or less in extreme heat…not sure if they do less than 150wt tbh) brills stuff. I've binned all my Lifa, merino all the way now. Sooo nice on ur skin :) :)

    +1 for tight/snugg mind.
