Ooow now that’s a good question. OT but I had same same quandary a few years ago re running – my hypothesis was ‘Does running over mountains equate/produce same levels of endurance as running for same time on roads’.

Answer = No,you can’t ‘bluff’ mileage.

Evidence = I died after 12miles or so on IM UK one year.

As the ratio of walk/run biased ever more in favour of the numerator, the painful blade of error cut deeply into the flesh of my incompetence 8O

They were ‘De rigueur’ in the 80’s (my current winter hack, well turbo hack TBH) has Bio-pace oval chainrings; SX400 group-O LOL….and I thought ‘Ice Grey’ was new back in ’06 :)

It went out due of fashion to the ‘then’ current research that, in fact, oval chainrings make Fudge-all difference…now they’re back. I’d like to predict that within 10-15 months they’ll be ‘proved’ a waste of time…again.

Friend of mine started the exact same business in the Peak about 10 years ago, granted there are more mtb-ers these days but it didn’t ‘take-off’ for him either.

He put it down to the Peak just not being ‘Out there’ enough to warrant a guide. He had interest enough, but not enough to forge a sustainable living.

Used to use ‘Yeti‘ gaiters yonks ago with Scarpa boots whilst stomping all over the moors…brills.

TBH I’m amazed that the industry giants haven’t produced a similar sole? The Scarpa has(d) a cut-out, approx. 4mm deep by 3 width, that the rand on the Yeti gaiter beds into + the under-sole fore-foot of the gaiter has a band that slots into a similar rung within the tread.

All you’d need then is nice Mr Gore to market a sexy pair of pac-lite gaiters….sorted.

From what I’ve gleemed from others on here, you need to jump up at least one size.

Your best bet is go visit an experienced physio who understands your sport, with a little research you’ll find one.

I use(d) a SIGMA wireless with cadence, really nice unit and worth the extra to loose the wires…I paid about £17 for mine 2nd hand from fleabay 5years ago and it’s still working; plus, it’s a nice compact little unit with a backlight :wink:
