jaame, I also have the same problem with the rebound being too fast. I have already changed the oil to 10w. I presumed that with me being on the ‘larger’ side and running about 90psi (max on the weight chart is 100psi) that was the cause. I’d be very interested to hear how you get on with this. I may try going up to 15w oil to see if that helps – but the odd thing is initially the rebound was pretty much in the middle!
6’4″ here and I ride a 22″ Orange five with a 60mm stem and it’s been perfect for everything from days in the peaks to mucking about in the woods to uplift days. Never felt so comfortable on a bike before!
At 6’4″ I’ve gone from a surly instigater and a big hit to just an orange five in a 22″ and it’s perfect fit wise with a 60mm stem. Does everything from uplifts to all day rides. I did try a 20″ alpine 160 but found it just a little too short. I really like the extra length!
Ok, Ive got it fixed! what sorted it was looking at the cage tension spring or P spring. I’m not sure if it had come out or not but there was a choice of positions on the cage for it locate in. I repositioned the spring in the position that gave the most tension and everything seems to be fine now. (although ive only done about an hour this eve)
It wasn’t difficult to do and i reckon is worth having a crack at if you run into trouble!
Allthpal mine is also from a large Irish retailer. I guess my suspicion is that I the clutch was knackered would it not just act like a normal mech when I switch it off (and have even removed the clutch)
Ill Have another look at it and see if I can get it sorted.
Thanks for all the assistance. Ill post any findings!
It will indeed. It sort of feels like there is a lot of resistance to it tho. This is the same with the clutch on or off, I have even tried removing the clutch mechanism altogether!
I just get the feeling it’s probably something really stupid I have got wrong!
I do indeed and that was my first thought. However the chain length is big ring to big ring plus a couple of links (single ring at the front)
It’s more like the mech just isn’t fully closing up
Amate of mine turned up with a borrowed one at the weekend (think it was the MBUK demo bike)It was lovely, quite lengthy in the top tube and the way it went through braking bumps was amazing! Not massively heavy at all, but it did have e13 wheels on it, not sure what it comes with as stock. My mate was very very impressed too
Ive got a buzz rack buzzrunner which takes 3 bikes and is absolutely spot on. Takes 3 bikes easily and is much better than thules of a similar price – was about £200
Thanks for the advice, I have just managed to get a go on 20″ this morning and it felt pretty good but perhaps a tiny bit short, but i suppose a layback post would sort that…………
Inside leg is about 33″ and i cant seem to find anywhere with a 22″ demo!!!!
Hey i’m also from Nottingham, live in Arnold, if you ever fancy a ride out let me know! I’ve not done that much locally only really Sherwood pines and messing about on the dh bike at Hemlock, so am always keen to try new stuff.
If it helps, Im 6’4" and have long arms and legs (i have to get the extra long shirts in M&S and everything!) and have previously had a 20" Inbred which was really great to ride with a 130mm Marzocchie AM, but i now have a 20" Surley Instigator which i absolutely love! It’s a little more heavy duty (but so am i!)but as a do anything bike with a 60mm stem and 130mm fork it really takes some beating. Much nicer than the inbred and prince alberts etc etc
