Got a pleasant afternoon run around the local country park in.
Usually I’m a morning exercise person, and if it hasn’t happened by 9 it doesn’t usually happen that day. A hectic Monday morning and the challenge changed that.
Back to normal this morning, off out now.

Quite a few have than at our kids BMX club. They tend to come out for “rocker races” at special times – end of season, Christmas, birthdays. Adults can ride them too, but it can look quite funny on a full size track.
The rocker races are usually won by the kids about 10 yr old, even against national champs. Fun to watch

Instinct 2 solar works for me.
Vivoactive and forerunner (think 265) for friends. Others have had probs with older fenix.

Dcrainmaker site is great for new reviews.

I’ve lost track of what the latest recommendations would be cos the one I’ve had for two years just works. Bit ugly, would like newer shiny, but there’s just no good reason.

The newer optical HR sensors are loads better. Trustworthy now for me

I know they’re not announcing the BMX teams until July, but does anyone know how many places we’re going to get in bmx racing?
Hoping medals last time mean more spots for Brits.

+1 for The ixs trigger in xs if you get the chance. Kids necks don’t need the extra weight of Full on dh lid, and they’re unlikely to be carrying the speed and momentum to warrant it.
It’s also one of the only adjustable ones so sizing is a bit more flexible. There’s a lot of paying big boxes if you need to try and return internet orders.

That said, another option is the phoenix Lazer plus. Because you can usually walk into Halfords and try for size before you buy. My 11yo daughter’s in her second one of those, a small which she’s had a couple of years – before that an xs for 2 years.
Boy had a 661 and was v happy.

I think it is but will check later. It was a cheap second hand auction buy so I didn’t have much choice, but he loves it.
24 disc wheel was from Wiggles eBay outlet trisportsresort. They’ve started up again so could be worth a look for the next dump of clearance stuff

He does have a little 20″ BMX which he uses for pump tracks and BMX tracks, but it’s the sus forked bike he always wants for bike parks and mountain biking.

We did exactly as you said.
My boy’s nine and on a 24″ Forme hybrid bike, very similar to that giant. It’s light, geared and been great for riding round.
We put a rst first air fork on the front for this summer, with a hydro disc brake and thicker tyres and wider bars, it’s still got the canti on the back, but he’s not heavy.

He was already giving things a go, but this has transformed his confidence jumping. He’s jumping tables, trying some gaps, and basically trying anything.
The bikes not perfect , the front rose and slackened a fair bit, but it’s great for him this summer and it’s not for ever.
I’ve got a daughter 18 months older on 26, her bikes too big for him, his is too small for her. I know this won’t be a bike for ages but it’s making this summer brilliant for him

I love my daughter dearly but there’s no way I’d let her travel in a car that she’s maintained. She can’t perform basic tasks like wash a cup up without causing a minor flood in the kitchen…. some stuff is best left to others.

It’s this bit that make me think of the Halfords club. Without knowing a friendly mechanic with the uni town, the alternative seems to be an unmaintained car.

It does look like your “roadside assistance” set up is the wrong tool for the job.
Problem is more of an ongoing maintenance issue than a “get you home” one.

Halfords do a Motoring Club where they change any bulbs, wipers, consumables etc for an annual fee.
Will also do safety checks on the car included to check if things like this are needed. Would avoid the situation of driving round without knowing the car’s not roadworthy, And much more likely to hold the right bulbs in stock.
Would have been a better choice the morning after getting home.

My two aren’t quite there yet but will probably be watching on YouTube if they do the live stream again.

Been following this thread quietly for ages and love it. Love your input, ideas, and thoughts on the racing.
It’s lovely to see the plans, targets, progress and celebrate the little wins too.
Don’t worry about the haters who don’t agree.
Fwiw, I’ve got two kids just getting into racing BMX and it’s really helping me. Kind of like “this is where things can go”.
Really like the Joe Bristol input too, with his boy racing BMX. My kids watched loads of the worlds coverage on YouTube last year and I’m sure they were shouting at the telly cheering him on.
We’re a lot earlier on the path with younger kids but this is one of the truly inspirational threads on this site.

Some parental shoutiness has been mentioned above.
That never seems to help things in our house, I’d say it makes the behaviour and child reactions worse. It’s hard, but needs to be avoided. Also if it’s happening between adults.
More positively, a mini indoor trampoline and a chin up bar have really helped our two burn of a bit of energy and put themselves back in a good place.

I’ve been to a few this week with my boy cos he loves them. Ride about 3 miles to and from too.
I follow him round on a 24 inch cruiser BMX. Even that can feel a bit long around some tight pumptrack corners.
My advice would be hold off spending any more on a 150 forked 27.5 bike. Ride what you’ve got first, then Depending on the track they build, you might want to put that cash towards something with much smaller wheels.

    Instinct 2 solar is good.
I’ve had good results for hr and GPS.
A few things DCRainmaker’s noted on the HR topic:
It’s a combination of the watch and the individual – some people get better results than others with each watch.
Wear it tight – bounce is the enemy of accuracy.
Often the smaller cheaper watches give better HR accuracy than the big expensive ones. Heavier watches bounce more. Bigger watches let more outside light in.

    Don’t like the format either.

As well as the repeat games, there were too many fixtures that had teams sending “second XV” s.
Either not enough jeopardy, or giving up before they got there and resting for the leagues. That shouldn’t happen in Big cup.
It’s obviously set up this way to keep more big french and English teams in until next round, but it spoils it when there’s games that don’t matter to at least 1 side.
I’m fine with the SA in. At least they send a full team

    Not really.
Pom is the right choice as captain and will do a great job.

But both of them are under a lot more pressure for their places this season.
Not the best 6 in Munster -Ahern – or the best 5 on Leinster on current form.

But pom is the better captain and raises his game when needed.
