    Unfortunately also found this ….

I’m loathe to scrap the thing, I love it and it’s original in 90% (bought second hand).
    Could / should I seek a welder ??

Whilst we’re back on it, anybody tried the new ‘Hex’? There’s an itch that needs to be scratched. Any input appreciated.

All in, 8,101km with 230,000m elevation. Well chuffed. (and knackered)

Yup, similar to vortex. Bus to work in the morning and ride home, 25 km for 8,000 km for the year.

OK, for that price I’ll give them a go … It’s either flip-flops or dessie boots, and nothing rough, so must be an improvement over the cheese graters currently on there. Thanks fellas

Thought they were similar to Nukeproof but cheaper. I’m in warmer climes, and shop/pub in flip-flops, would they be OK for those smaller duties, do you think? The cheapo metal things currently on my Pompey are awful and cut me to ribbons.

My set of R7 from 2006-ish are ok. Rim brake and disc mounts, very little love, never let me down in 20,000km. I’ve no doubt others have had less pleasing experiences

I know Manitou forks are a bit of a joke on stw but I still use a set of 2001 Mars and 2006 R7 on commuter and xc bikes, which despite total lack of tlc still are doing ok. I think they are like little girls, when they’re good they’re very good, but when they’re bad … I can’t comment

OP, I am the same height as you and after seeking advice here, went 16″ Evo titanium. From my experience, that’s where you need to be. Great bikes, BTW

I did an old frame. Stuffed all the holes with wet bog paper, worked ok

OP – my Mrs is a Filipina, similar background to yours, and I’m in HK. If you are in the Flips, passing through HK, I’ve a load of spares you could have also …

Genuine question, I’ve just done a bit of trawling, is that a ‘proper’ site ? Good God Almighty ! 8O

I’ve never heard of Mumsnet before, but I (a 50 year old saddo) am definitely joining. Reckon the user names Gutted Rat or Map of Tassie will be taken ? Any other suggestions for a euphemistic name ? * Am still in shock*

Rat Hammock..?! 8O Smells of dead people ?! Too many people with too much time and imagination, if it’s been through the machine it’s clean in my book.

Dashed, pretty much as you said! Stopped them, both in their 30s and explained it was mine. Claimed they’d bought it in a boot sale. I know the law, so to avoid (me) getting a kicking and mugged, I gave him 40 quid to return it ! Sad, but I just wanted it back

Given the other stolen bike threads, thought id post an update. I recovered the bike myself being ridden on a very popular cycle path in swansea. Two blokes, hoodies etc, ambling along. Certainly using Strava to pinpoint bike rides and riders. The other bloke was on a blue hard tail, with yellow forks. Anyway, to my mind confirmation that the app is being used by thieves. I was only visiting swansea and hadn’t set any privacy zones. Thnx

I’d agree, the Kona’s and Soul (also the Ibis) are lovely, but ‘pretty’ ? My Trek is not to my mind pretty, my octogenarian ma thought it so, which got me thinking (in a free moment). As mtb riders, maybe our eyes, and brains, are tarnished ? I don’t want to cause any argument, just a musing on a sunny afternoon in HK

Firstly, you’ll need a permit from the country parks department. Form is on the website. Depending where you’re based, chi ma wan on Lantau, tai mo Shan for dh fun. Sai Kung also, or the dragon trail on HK island. Maps will come with the permit, or email me, profile

Thnx for the input. Damage is new, from the crash. As someone pointed out, disposable and glad the bars are ok. I’ll send it to Hope with no expectation, and no quibble. I used the recommended torque and a torque wrench when I fitted it.

I’m not seeking compo, I’ve bought a new one. Just asking for advice, so that I don’t over tighten again, if that is the cause.

Wow, thnx all. Got it ok-ish with a sliding spanner, better anyway. Never heard the word pulsing, but yes that’s what it felt like when feathering the lever. Bought a new hope rotor, bloody rivets are snagging on the adaptor, not the caliper, any suggestions welcome

Wales will always be ‘home’ for me, despite the fact I’ve lived in Hong kong almost 20 years. Live on Lantau, no high rise, surrounded by country park. Relatively well placed for Europe and Oz/NZ. Suits me at the moment, but nowhere is perfect.

Yunki, that’s impressive! I’ve not had a car in over ten years. Work shifts, so ride one way, every day and bus the other way. Shop by bike, booze by bike, love bikes, me.
