i’ve had lots of trouble with KMC 10speed split links. tried to use 4 so far,

1 fitted perfectly, easy to close, no problems
1 didn’t fit at all, ie, would not close without huge amounts of force, then once closed chain could not pivot.
2 closed with small amount of force, needed a tool to close them, both then cracked / snapped on a ride shortly after.

won’t be using them anymore, have reverted back to using SRAM 9 speed links on my 10 speed shimano, no problems at all and work every time.

i bought a twin pack of KMC 10 speed quick links which they stated were good for XT chains. one of them did fit, the other one was way too tight. you could force it closed but it was so tight that the chain couldn’t pivot. The tolerances for making re-useable 10 speed links is very small and it seems hit and miss if you get one which fits. some people on this thread have been lucky, the others haven’t !
I think the easiest way to go is use the 9 speed sram quick links. they seem to work without issues.

rode it on Friday, sticky mud still on some sections but not bad enough to put me off. “the rock” section makes it all worth while.

was a great day out. my legs are still aching from that climb towards the end I think. Good mix of riding with rooty bits, slidy mud sections and fast downhills. looking forward to the next one !
    Cheers.

very enjoyable ride in the sunshine. I found it hard going in places, the ground being a bit sticky and draggy but was expecting it to be a lot worse. Some tough climbs towards the end but also some great downhills.
    Absolutely cream crackered now !

I’m starting to wonder if choosing the epic course was a good idea. It’s going to be make or break !
    Have fun everyone ….

Praying for dryness for rest of the week….

haha, yeah they are way too over complicated. had one for 2 years and still need to read the instructions every time I go out with it lol.

no. should work when not following a course. mine has been a bit hit and miss though with this function. first time i tried it it only auto lapped after the first lap, did 2 more laps and it didnt detect it. worked fine second time though, auto lapping each lap.

i’m in the same boat and struggle to find sunglasses and helmets that don’t look ridicoulous.
i would recommend trying on some BBB bsg43 . they’re the best i’ve found, they have very good coverage down to the cheek. they may still look very slightly wide but once you have your helmet on look fine.

Came across an adder yesterday in swinley forest. unfortunately it was round a blind bend so didnt see it in time and think i rode over it. I stopped and turned round to see it wriggle off so think it was ok.

Heading up there aswell in April for the first time. from what i”ve read on here it is well worth doing and up llanberis down rangers/telegraph velley seems to be the most popular choice.

From what i’ve read having your NAT type open leaves your PS3 vunerable to online abuse/hacking etc.

Another vote here for the park tools chain cleaner. i find using this is more effective than the jam jar method. the degreaser is expensive but i been using jizer as a cheaper option and used in conjunction with the chain cleaner really makes your chain look and perform, once re-lubed, like new.

had exactly the same symptoms on my yeti asr5. it was the mech hanger loose but you say you’ve already checked it so probably no help at all.

dogbone, how does the maxxis HR 2.35 fit in the back. much clearance ?
i find a nobby nic 2.25 is about as wide as i can go on the rear(which is by no means a problem).

yep , play in bearings on my xtr trail pedal – drive side only though.
sent back under warranty and waiting for the outcome.
checked my mates at the weekend, exactly the same , play in the drive side pedal !!

will be very interested in how you get on as i’m planning to do the same as soon as the weather settles a bit. again for me the cost of petrol and accomodation means some carefull planning is required. the part i want to do the most is the snowdonia area – trail centres and good natural stuff there. just gutted the voluntary ban will be on for the mountain when i go as would love to have a go at that.

i bought some 3M tape from here
    http://www.premierpaintguard.co.uk/mountain_bike.html
not cheap but its good tape and comes with soapy solution to help with fitting.
i pretty much covered the whole frame with it, a timely process but can now rest assured that most battle scars will not be permanent.

helitape is a must for carbon frames imo
