I was going to go 30- 11/46. If I went with the SRAM option would 28- 10/42 give me the same range?

I was after the 46 tooth on the Shimano tbh. The SRAM only look to be going to 42.

Is spiderless cranks/chainrings the way forward or stick with the spider/bolt option?

The bike the drivetrain is going on is a long term keeper. 10 years going by my last one. With this in mind is it worth going for a Hope crankset or are they not really worth the extra cash say over XT?

@honourablegeorge, with the cassette being SRAM could the rest of the drivetrain still be a Shimano?

Any experience of these guide companies doing long weekends? Arrive Friday, leave Monday, do as much riding as possible around flight times.

Thinking May till October time. I would like some technical single track in there, so that would curtail my mileage to around 30 offroad miles (not counting forest roads etc as off-road) a day which I would say is well within my fitness levels.

What would be the best shifter option for a full loop Jones H Bar? Standard Rohloff or Co-Motion etc?

I love word play jes. Touchè. Bloody predictable txt failure. I’ll be more observant in future.

@ ton. Have you used the JJ+ for road rides? How do you find it? I’m specifically interested in how it performs at 80+ miles and centuries. I’m not bothered about short sharp turn of speed road blasts on it. These road rides would be occasional for me. 4 times a year perhaps.

Hi Mick, I’ve been commuting on the dream machine. I’m still getting use to the position and drops along with the skinny tyres but the Rohloff has blown me away. I’m much preferring it to any drivetrain I’ve had. Just wow. I’m not noticing the heavy rear end people talk of.

Now that Maxxis looks like what I’m after. :-) how do you find them on the tarmac? Cope with the Fred Whitton without an unacceptable amount of drag?

I thought I’d get away with the sizing. Have run a WTB Breakout 2.3 tubeless on a Easton Arc internal of 45mm. Zero issues. The G One Speed is 2.35. I’d like a second wheelset but I’d be into new cassette and I’m 11-46 so too expensive for occasional use and I’m not swapping cassettes every time.

@scotroutes. Looking at Boost cranksets for my Jones Plus (148) I was going to go 1×11 (11-46) with just the single ring boost XT 8000 cranks but for not a lot more money the double is available. It would if nothing else at least give me options in the future. Do you find the set up of running a single on the double cranks ok? I was going 32 on the front.

If you swap between a 30/32 teeth for experiment purposes do you have to adjust chain length by the addition or removal of links? Or will a clutch mech step in to take up the variation?

Is this like the Ard Rock? Are the events similar or two different beasts?

Sorted now. Hadn’t put UK in my address. That was a fantastic price so thank you stevied. This is my first 29 Plus wheelset so I bought two. I’ll run them for a bit and see how I go. If they lack in the grip department in the mud I may go with a Dirt Wizard up front and keep a Chronnicle on the back. What are other peoples 29+ set up for winter?

@ drover cycles. Maxxis part number TB96833300? If so I’d be interested in a price. How do I contact you?

Trying to order from Alltricks but payment is declined due to shipping restrictions? Any ideas? I’ve fired off an email asking.

I was tempted by the Ranger but was put off with the light fast rolling part. If it was in their tough high grip flavour then I’d have been in.

Anyone one using their Plus (Boost) for road rides/touring? On WTB Scrapers (45mm) I’m guessing not many road biased tyres. What is your other rim/hub combo and what tyres do you run?

Where does this reluctance in the use of black spokes come from? Are they inherently weaker or something? I was thinking on specifying them.

Yeah all day for one week out a fortnight. I’m a shift worker. Apart from that one week everything else seems dog friendly. We have a very large secure garden. In the summer we thought it would be ok to have a kennel out there and it could roam free and safe all day. Even if it did escape we are surrounded by fields and over half a mile down a single track road from a quiet back road. We were worried about the winter and having it confined to indoors for up to 8 hours.

Where did you buy the Crux from bonesetter? How do you find them on the JJ+ and what sort of riding do you do on them?

I’d be interested in giving these a go. Thinking of moving across to a JJ+ from my SF and they seem to be well regarded by the man himself.

Thanks biff. Where are you? I’m in Scotland. I don’t mind too much of a journey if I was guaranteed a test ride. I’d probably wait until the SF Plus is built up and try the two back to back along with my SF 29 in there too for added comparison.

Ok, excuse my naivety but I just enjoy riding my SF 29 everyday or as much as possible, I’ve never been caught up in a numbers game on geometry before. All I know is I want a Plus for added comfort on multiple day rides. Logically to me the SF Plus would be more comfortable as this is the case between the 29 Diamond and Truss. The SF Plus is 23″ same as the 29er. There is obviously geometry considerations too, but will it fit me at 5’11”?
Or is the Plus 24 more suitable and the 23 SF Plus best left to smaller riders? Guess I’m asking who is the SF Plus aimed at? I’m not bothered about clearance for frame bags etc as I use a trailer,so no basis there to swing me one way or the other.

The SF+ is being described as a small. This is only in regards to it being 23″ top tube as opposed to the 24/25 of the diamond? It is not small for the more vertically challenged rider?the 29er has a 23 top tube is a great fit for me at 5’11. I’m guessing that using a layback on the SF+ it would fit me. Go for a diamond + and I would need an inline or dropper. Could really do with more info on the JJ website.

Yes I’m confused too. I have a SF with truss. I’m going to make the jump to the Plus. I’d like to run a 29 3″ rear tyre. If there was a SF Plus on offer I’d plump for that given I enjoy my current bike so much. So why is the SF Plus not really a Plus? Can anyone compare a steel SF to the diamond Plus?

    lotto

So the Plus spaceframe can take a 29×3 in the rear and the stand over height is reduced a little but the wheelbase remains the same as the steel SF? The Plus Diamond is indeed a different bike altogether with longer wheel base etc?

    lotto

So the Plus SF is not the long wheel base version of the original SF?

Will the Fatsno and boost be compatable with the Jones TA bolt? I emailed the Jones website a few days ago but have received no reply.

I never considered the 650B+ option. Makes sense though and I think it would open up a greater tyre choice as well. I’m very interested in the Spaceframe + too. Only because I like my 29er so much and I really like what I’ve read on the plus. The only negative I can say against the Spaceframe is on an epic day it can be a burden to shoulder for hike a bike stuff. I may be tempted with a diamond frame plus. I’ll see what people say about the SF+first though.

Pictures of the Spaceframe plus on the JJ website now. Looks like it has a dropper post fitted. New front thru axles look interesting as well.

Not sure what the difference is but a lot say not 11 speed suitable. Like the look of the Blackburn Wayside.
