If first time stick to the way marked trails. (Red) If you have all day then I would genuinely do 3 laps. One on each bike.

Straitline DeFacto pedals have earned a reputation for being able to take a beating & keep on going. So simple they can be rebuilt in under 10 minutes with nothing more than a screwdriver.
I’m a fan of Hope too. I’d like to try some Burgtec as they pick up some great reviews too.

Just cut in half your current logs. For future Google ‘magnetic woodcutters helper’ Then make your own. I got a telescopic magnetic bolt retrieval thing from Halfords. £4. Width of a pen and extends plenty. Pierce a plastic milk carton lid and bingo. Set to desired length.

Great link mcmoonter, thank you. I feel a tad guilty now that I’m looking forward to getting home from holiday and the last few days I have off before going back to work will be spent putting wood into enviable piles.

I’ll take the Hopes from you if selling. What colour are they? Email in profile if interested in sale.

What a fantastically well written and presented book. Really enjoying handling a hard back too. I’m on a camping holiday but when I get back I think there will be enthusiasm enough to split some seasoning rounds and attempt a Holz Hausen. Nothing spectaclar, 6ft ‘square’ area perhaps. Was anybody inspired enough by the book to try anything from it?

I got the above Stoater from firestarter. It really is a great bike. I’m tempted to sell though if anybody is interested. I’m doing a loft conversion and funds are tight. Leave your email and I’ll pm you. Bike in Glasgow area. Must be collected or meet somewhere.

It comes up smaller than the normal G Shocks. So not quite so in your face. Quite discreet. Not as small as a Baby G though, somewhere in between. Comes in different colours too. You can see the colour versions on amazon.

Chronicle F+R. Good all round apart from sticky mud. Doesn’t shed too well.

Yeah it is a powered roller. I’ll have a play with cable tension from the full size lever to the belt for the cylinder.

Tried all sorts of combinations with the safety/clutch/cutter levers all to no avail.

Having lived and worked in the Falklands, the Islanders believe they are of important military strategic planning. If the eventuality ever arose of the Panama Canal being denied to the Americans they would have to sail south to join their Atlantic and Pacific seaboards. This would give the Argentinians and others opportunity to deny them transporting commodities from West to East and vice versa. More of the American economy than you would think is in shipping from coast to coast. If the British hold the Falklands then the likelihood is the route would remain open to them, at a cost of course. Like Gibraltar, with it being the mouth to the Mediterranean, you can effectively control in it’s entirety from one effective position. So it is really just all about location location location. The oil thing is a mere bonus. Not my opinion, just what I was told when I was there.

Highpath Engineering for a really professional job. Looks the kind of job they would do. It might be a little more cost than doing it yourself but the repair would probably be better than the original and you would have longevity and peace of mind.

Metafit. Off the top of my head ‘chicken loop’ green lid’ ‘jaws’ ‘wipeout’ all about 20 minutes long and will leave you feeling burst in both cv and muscle fatigue.

Then no. I’m after a road cleat held within a grippy flat cage. A compromise I know, however one I could live with.

Have you been using them on just flat trainers? No slipping when wet?

Rohloff and belt drive. Takes the hassle out of things. I find myself riding more as I worry less about maintenance and just get on with riding whatever the weather.

Hope. Can’t fault them. Easy to service/replace pins/bearings. Combined with 510 Stealth sole then they are very sticky year round. Exotic ones are good too at half the price but heavier. I use both and have no issue with either.

What makes the SRAM GX crankset Boost or nonboost? (Or any of there crank arms)Are SRAM crank arms like Shimano and have been adapted to Boost at manufacture or like Hope where you change the chainring to an offset one to accommodate Boost? I’m thinking SRAM cranks now as I like the direct mount chainring which Shimano don’t offer and lots of after market availability.

Anybody used DMR axe cranks? Good value for money @£150 with chainring.

I thought I had to go for a Boost drivetrain with a Boost frame? I’ll be running a Chronnicle.

Which freehub do I need for the GX cassette? Is it XD driver? With the cassette being all steel does my free hub therefore need to be steel? Can I spec this from original purchase or have to be an additional purchase?

Thinking I’m going to go with the SRAM GX cassette, PC 1130 chain, Hope 30mm cranks and BB,Hope Boost chainring and SLX shifters/derailleur. Or for comparability would would GX shifters/derailleur be better? I’m assuming a medium cage rear mech?

    lotto

I’m liking the idea of an all steel cassette for longevity. Is GX SRAM level SLX?

    lotto

@ honourablegeorge. You obviously know your onions regards cassettes etc and clearly in the SRAM camp. So what would be your ideal drivetrain top to bottom? ( not Eagle, too expensive)
