I thought it was pretty average, and pretty expensive. Would not go again.

I was told by a shop which sold Smeg fridges to avoid them as the seals go, and cost lots to replace.

Dunno how much you would get for it (£300+ maybe?), but you could try selling on Pink Fish Media classifeds, as it's the type of stuff they are into. It will sell on ebay, but if you take paypal (and you have to offer to accept it as a payment!), the fee's are getting pretty steep and the odds are stacked against the seller.

It's a shame, because it's the first time I have been on a train for ages, and the train itself was really good. Looks like it's back to the car next time :-(

IMHO, it needs bringing up. What's the point of ending an interview with no idea of the package, and therefore neither party knowing if you would take the job if offered? It happended to me 10 years ago, I had interviews with 3 different people, and none of them would indicate salary. When I pressed it with the 'lady from HR' (for want of a better expression) she did not know what position I was applying for :-).

…the robustness thing is quite important. I work away from home, and I don't want to be fixing the computer every time I get home. They use my PC at the moment and I have had to reinstall the O/S from scratch after they had been using it.

anything not explicitly mentioned probably won't be covered.

I'd reword that…anything not explicitly mentioned is not covered.

Statisticlly (sp) you are far more likely to claim for CI than any other insurance.

You sure about that? You think more people claim for Critical Illness cover than any other?

The non disclosure thing is the real problem, you went to the doc 20years ago and he measured your blood pressure was a little high? It goes on your records. You try to claim on your insurance, the insurance company goes through every little item in your medical history. If they can show any non disclosure, they won't pay out. There was a horrible case of a woman screwed over by the Norwich Union where they claimed non disclosure for depression, when the claim related to cancer.

    I think your stat's are a little optimistic too…

If you do keep your cover, i'd make sure you get hold of your medical records, otherwise you could be paying for no cover. I compared the critical illness list between two policies, and some of the ones ommitted from one of the policies made me think there is a whole lot out there that won't be covered by either.

TBH, I don't buy the QC argument, people (as stated before) will just use a flatbed scanner to scan a print, remove the logo from the print and do what they want. Perhaps the photographer should also keep the prints in a locked safe to prevent them being scanned?

The only real advantage I can see in user-removed's argument, is that he can offer a low headline price? My two kids are little shits when posing for photographs, I'd feel bad if a photographer gives up 3 hours to do a shoot for £60 and I don't order any prints through no fault of the photographers. Equally, some of the prices for prints seem excessive, so if I did want more prints, I'd order minimal quantities, and scan them, because I ain't gonna pay £20 for a 7×5.

Why would you want to wrest control from those that know what they're doing anyway?!

Because photographers move on, take other careers, go under… I want to keep the digital negatives of pic's of my kids when they were young until I die…and then pass them on. I can't believe I will be alone in wanting to do that?

People are used to the idea they can do a lot with digital images (digital photo frames, print on a mouse mat, email to family, whatever…). If photographers have not moved on with the times, then tough luck. They should adjust their pricing strategy accordingly to reflect the clients preference. I'm not saying they should work for less, but the current strategy of paying minimal fee for the shoot, then charging for expensive prints seams flawed, especially as if the client gets pissed off with the print prices or the photographer withholding images, the photographer will only get minimum fee, which won't cover his expenses, and he’s out of pocket.

I think most people want to pay for a photographer to stage and capture images, not act as on overpriced printing service, and their fee structure should reflect this, because to me, it seams like photographer is trying to lever extra cash based on practices from times gone by.

I tested cable directionallity in a c. £11K Linn system I owned a few years back. I could not tell any difference between the different cable directions. It's funny when you listen to some of the people on the Naim /Pink Fish forums who profess to have golden ears, then find out they have had one of their speakers wired out of phase for the last 2 years ;-).

Back in the 80's/90's people would put up with this shit, but now things have moved on. The cult of the british HiFi industry has choked on it's own BS, and personally I am very glad about it (dispite wanting to support british industry).
