    Sorry it’s a bit wonky…

It is visible, but not offensively so (IMHO)

Could it be tinnitus? I get a sound like a car idling on the driveway when it’s quiet at night….there is no actual noise, it’s just tinnitus. I used to get up and check there was nothing outside, but now I know there is nothing out there, just the noises in my head.

Cadac’s gas cookers are great. We have a small one for beach / picnicking and a larger one for doing breakfast / evening meals. The small ones are brilliant when out with the family….so easy to pop into a local a shop and pick up bits to BBQ.

I think your shots look great. The edits fisha made them look better.

I always shoot raw, if your planing to post process your images I can’t see a reason not to.

Personally, I’d buy a Gibson, and go s/h if needed. I think there are some SG’s for sale on TheFretboard at the moment. Are Epiphones Poly or Nitro finish? I much prefer Nitro as it ages nicely, but some of the finishes on the cheaper Gibson’s are a bit nasty. I’d have thought you’d get a nice Gibson for £500 s/h, they are one of the cheaper guitars they make.

What is the inlay at the 12th fret on the 2014 Gibson? That’s probably gonna look horrid and will reduce the resale value. I’d avoid Gibson’s latest ‘improvements’ like the plague.

RF90, you don’t have to go to the docs to get stuff for piles, you can get medication over the counter. I prefer the bullets, and a weeks worth of them usually sees me right. Mix them with drinking Guinness and see if you can shit ying and yang.

I can understand where MCTD is coming from…when I picked up my SMax I parked the Mondeo I was trading next to the smax and had both boots open. I was pretty disappointed, as I thought the Mondeo looked almost the same size as the SMax. I think that’s slightly misleading as the Smax load area can be packed higher, which can make a big difference, and if you move the 2nd row of seats forward, the amount of usable space increases a lot.

I have grown to really like the smax, I don’t find the AC a problem at all. The stereo is terrible (lot worse than the Mondeo it replaced) and you have to be careful stuff does not fall down near the post for the boot catch, or the boot can stick shut, which is a massive PITA. I also despise the mounting of the Ford roof bars…it’s a terrible design. Panoramic roof is great for checking the bikes are OK when driving.

I believe it is possible to totally remove the 3rd row of seats (I’ve never done it) by unbolting them to give more space, but that’s not something you’d want to do every day.

Engine wise, I think the 140 is probably a good bet, I’m sure I’ve read about people preferring the 140 over the 163 in real world conditions.

Geoff, can you see contour lines with OSM maps?

That’s good to hear. I’m just a bit concerned that things will move on after a few years and I’ll end up buying the maps again. I need to grow a pair and get them ordered!

No, it’s an update cost to bring a purchased version of full uk mapping (c.£200) up to date.

Just spoke to Viewranger. Updates are c.£20 for full UK mapping. The maps can’t be used with any other apps. The full UK 25K map is c.2.8GB.

I don’t mind the £200 as a one off, but if Viewranger go bust, I wouldn’t want to have to pay it again.

Thanks for the comments so far….does anybody know if the maps purchased for memory map / viewranger can be used in other apps, or just with the app it’s purchased for? I wonder if the data can be updated, or if it’s just a one shot download at the time of purchase.

To be fair CZ, Kim Jong Un’s series on the history of drum and bass was pretty good. He overstated the influence of LTJ Bukem, but otherwise a solid retrospective of the genre.

MAH’s voice makes me want to vomit. That said, she does play a lot of music I like. Katie Puckrik is just plain brilliant….I love her. Cerys plays some fantastic music and has a genuine passion for it.

Liz Kershaw however….I can’t find a single redeeming feature. Her voice is horrid, she plays a constant stream of indie landfill and she sounds like a sycophantic halfwit when she’s interviewing.

If you have a problem with the BBC’s news output, spend a week in the US and try watching news over there. You can watch CNN for a whole day and get less information than watching 5mins of BBC news. When you listen to R4, the density of information gets even better, especially some of the late night news where they get candid interviews with major players who aren’t high profile, but have deep insight into current issues, and will talk without spinning or trying to influence peoples opinion.

For a democracy to function effectively, the population has to be educated. The BBC does a very good job at doing that.

Look at UK newspapers on both side of the political fence, who basically blatantly went all out to get people to vote how they wanted on the run up to the election. Most of the output from the Telegraph / Guardian in the weeks leading up to the election was a disgrace. Do people really want to pay for a paper who tries to tell them how to vote? Contrast that with how the BBC behaved.

Some of the other BBC output, like the R4 series on the Magna Carta is just priceless. That content will be relevant for decades.

The BBC is one the positive things which define the UK to the rest of the world as a progressive country. If the Conservatives start attacking it, I for one will be fighting very hard to resist.

I’d have thought one of the compact ones would do it, they just won’t be good for gaming as you can’t fit a graphics card (not that I know much about that), but for basic photo editing, a NUC should be fine

IMHO, yes, I have bought loads of quiet fans in the past, and they are still noisy enough to be heard. Fanless is the only way to make sure it’s really quiet.

I built one from bits bought from Quiet PC. I ordered all the bits from a shopping list based on one of their systems (I has in a hurry so I didn’t have time for them to build it). I use it for music recording, and it makes no noise at all. It’s brilliant. After spending 15 years buying ‘quiet’ fans etc (which are never as quiet as hoped) having a totally silent one is ace. It’s based around a low wattage i7 w/passive cooler, SSD’s and passive PSU in a slightly weird looking tower.

    Lot’s of ideas on here….

Snyc to gmail contacts on the S3, then they will be there when you log into your new phone? It’s a while since i did this but it was painless, and once they are on gmail, you never need to do it again.

I don’t think you will get near the festival to drop stuff off, the roads looked pretty tightly controlled last year. I think you’d be ok with a gas burner, id have thought it’s a lower risk than a disposable? The trolley idea is the best.

My wife had a base model Tiguan. The seats weren’t great, it wasn’t amazing to drive and the stereo was horrid. It was brilliant in the snow or muddy fields, it held it’s value really well (bought from new) and she loved it. We bought the service pack and the car cost nothing apart from petrol. No tyres, no faults, no brakes in 32K miles. As a drivers car, it wasn’t great, but from a money point of view, it was brilliant.

I bought a pair of Goliath’s from Acro with a pair of decent insoles and they are the most comfortable safety shoes I’ve had. I tried DM’s and they didn’t suit my feet at all (they might need breaking in before they become comfy?). I had a pair of Redwings and they were well made, but I didn’t find them comfortable at all.

Car drives perfectly, the bearings ain’t getting hotter than on my wifes car. I think if the bearings were shot, things would get pretty hot, pretty quickly on a large car going at 50mph.

The suspension feels fine, I’ve had a Ford previously which needed a new sub frames, and you know it needs doing, as you can hear it clanking.

The brakes are fine. Ford said they were fine last week, and it’s just passed it’s MOT, so unless they have magically regenerated themselves over that last 12,500 miles, there was nothing wrong with them at the last service.

I dunno if trading standards would be interested in this, as it’s only a recommendation to have the work done…it’s not like I’ve paid for it and they didn’t do it? Either way, it sucks.

I’ve put up with Ford being hopeless for too long. Driving home on Friday I did 55mph max because I was worried about the bearing. Not a nice experience.

When I first had the car from new it spent three trips to a Ford dealer because it was leaking exhaust fumes into the car. The dealer refused to acknowledge there was anything wrong (despite me watching them returning the car to me with all the windows open because of the fumes :-(). I took it to a different dealer (twice) who eventually found there was a large crack in the Cat.

I’m calmly going to take Ford to pieces on this one. I really am.

Sorry, the incompetence title was playing off the MOT thread. It’s not incompetence, it’s blatantly ripping off customers. The brakes were going to be c. 400 quid, so that’s over a grand’s worth of totally pointless work.

Blackout blinds and a good bed help. Quiet central heating also helps. Making sure you don’t check you phone if you wake in the night. Sex also helps, although that’s obviously difficult if your married.
