The salesman said that is was a factory fit towbar, but because it was a Ford Direct car, it would have not have been used for towing. A spare reg plate (from whatever was being towed) turned up in the boot with the detachable (used) towbar, so he backtracked on that one 8O.

Think I might give this one a miss, but it’s a bummer, as I need to get a car with a towbar for friday, and I liked this one. There were a couple of other things not quite right, so I think i’ll keep looking.

    I don’t think the Tiguan’s got massive towing capacity…

    http://www.whattowcar.com/gebruikservaring.php?merk=Volkswagen&serie=Tiguan

…but they are really good on fuel, we get mid to high 40’s solo.

We have been thinking about a folding camper for ages, but we had a look at a caravan, and they offer a lot more for similar money, so think the caravan looks a better option. Really looking forward to going away in the winter, which ain’t always fun in a tent.

The Orion appeared to be a nice van w/10 year warranty, so it’s going to be caravanning for the next 10 years at least ;-). The salesman was fantastic, no pressure, good advice. Think the lack of pressure convinced us it was a good idea.

    Really excited now…can’t wait!

I think we will be using my wifes 140 bhp Tiguan, I’m looking to change my car, but I don’t think it will happen in time (that’s another story). Is 140 enough power to tow OK?

It’s actually an Orion…the Assraper was dropped from their product protfolio 8O

It’s a Bailey Assraper 540-5. Grips – good idea about the use of models. I agree about the kids with bunks, they loved them…esp as each bunk has it’s own lightswitch. :-)

I have a mondeo estate with parking sensors. They have been really useful, you only have to hit something once and you have more than paid for the sensors. They are handy in supermarkets if people walk across the back of the car. Seam like a common sense idea to me?

Thanks for the advice, I think the caravan has a stabiliser fitted (Al-Ko?) I’m a bit nervous about the reversing, the empty car park sounds like a good idea…I might see if I can get on a course (my reversing without a van is not great).

Proper excited about it though…I can’t wait to get way with the family. I’d always wanted a folding camper, but once you accept the idea of a caravan, it looks a lot more practical.

Anybody got an suggestions for good family campsites in the midlands / Shropshire?

It wasn’t just the covers…the inner sleeves were important too :-) I had about a year with Space Ritual gatefold, but without the correct innersleeves. Scared me for life.

I was a massive fan when I was a teenager..still really like them. Bob Calvert was a genuine talent..Captain Lockheed was class. Saw him live with Inner City Unit…what a gig.

Depends on the car and the dealer and the service interval…you can also haggle.

….interesting, I must admit, I was pretty uninspired with the A5, but I always find test drives a bit funny. The salesman was a bell end too, which doesn’t help.

The S-line Special Editions look like the best value, but the are fitted w/19″‘s…I don’t think i’d like them…suppose I could get them swapped for something smaller. (19″‘s might also make the car worse in snow…which defeats the reason for the four wheel drive)

We had one with IF, absolutely the best thing we ever did. Very simple to understand, setup and administer. The only ‘problem’ is that you never feel like you have much spare cash, as it gets passed over to the mortgage. No mortgage anymore….that feels great :-)

I’d try wifi and see how well it works. Personally I have found some devices aquire network addresses quickly and work faultlessly, others (mainly Windows based PC’s) are a PITA, work OK for months, then stop working for no reason.

It aint gonna cost anything to try, and within a few days you’ll have a much more meaningfull answer than you can get from an internet forum.

I’ve got an Atom based machine, and I agree with what others have said, they are really underpowered (if running Win7) and not that cheap when you factor in the cost of Windows. MacMini looks a lot better.

MF – are you sure it’s an A6 SLine SE? One or the other surely.

    POSTED 3 HOURS AGO # REPORT-POST

SE in this context is Special Edition, which gives met. Paint and some other bits (parking sensors, bigger wheels) for a couple of hundred quid, so it works out better value than a standard s-line.

I bought one a few years ago…I can’t say I use it loads, but it’s been worthwhile have it. I got a Panasonic which takes inputs from an external microphone (Rode Stereo Videomic). The audio quality is miles better than using an inbuilt mic, so it’s really good for videoing the kids if they have made up a play or doing something where hearing the dialogue is important. Dunno how much you have to spent to get ext. mic inputs though?

The kids like acting up to it, so it has become something to stimulate creative play.

Video mode on dSLR’s is not good for waving around in front of kids playing (IMHO), shallow DOF and lack of proper AF makes uncomfortable viewing in most cases

A question to people who live in Edinburgh, Why didn’t they just put a spur off the railway line which runs right past the airport to a new station at the airport? (not trolling, just curious…seems like an obvious thing to do?)

I wouldn’t bother with an IFA for a mortgage, I think you’d do better without the additional link in the chain. I’d love to find a good one….every single one I’ve dealt with has been hopeless.

It’s an industry with a poor image, and deservedly so IMHO.

My dad did it about 5 years ago, drove it until it stopped running, towed to a garage. Garage didn’t drain the tank properly, he ran it until it stopped running again, tank drained properly…..his car has been fine since (he still has it).

I think the ‘special’ quality that employers look for is ‘will he/she fit in with the team we have and do the tasks we need them to do’. It’s as simple as that.

The employer knows what he wants you to do, if he can visualise you fitting into the role, and doing the work, the jobs yours.

It’s the same as looking round a house…’can I see me living here?’ If the answers yes, most of the other stuff looks after itself.

When we had ours done, they suggested 24 hours with no cars on, then be careful with steering on it at low speed for a few weeks.

Twinlakes at Melton is really good for younger kids, a fun park where you spend the day playing, not queuing. Loads to do, has a bit of a ‘home made’ feel about it, but tons to do. You could easily spend a full day there.

Yes, I did. It looked good, the boot was a decent size (it looked a lot bigger than a golf / focus, although it was an estate), suspension is jacked up a bit. I have to say, the interiors are a bit uninspired (IMHO), but it’s a lot of car for the money.

I’ve been looking at exactly this, the A6 is only available with the 3.0 in quatto form, there are some deals about for the outgoing model, but it’s still pretty expensive. I think it should do mid/high 30’s for economy.

I had a look at the Octavia and the Superb yesterday, the Octavia is still quite a big car. The Superb is massive, looks like a lot of car for the money.

My Mrs has a Tiguan 140 w/four wheel drive, and it get’s mid 40’s (mpg). The four wheel drive is fantastic in the snow/wet. I really want my next car to have it, but it does limit your car choice a lot.

I’d go limited, read up on IR35, get Bauer and Cottrel or similar to review your contracts/working practices and make sure you have legal expenses cover (usually by joining the PCG). Personally I’d avoid anything fancy, don’t take the piss and be always have IR35 in the back of your mind.

It’s a bit of a learning curve, can you talk to other (sensible) people at work to get advice?

    How about some Curtis Mayfield?
