I couldn’t help but laugh at the journalists asking questions at wee Nic’s lockdown presentation last night. Most of the questions about the easing of restrictions can be summarized thus:

“so eh, wee Nic – wi these changed rules does it mean wi can get pished ootside, sunbathe and hae a shag again coz its gonnae be pure taps aff this weekend and mah burd/ fella lives in a different street. Ken eh? It’s shan if ye cannae huv a shag and a shandy when it’s bilin”.

I know people who are addicted to self help books but who only read the first few chapters before moving on to the next one. That means they only ever get confirmation they are suffering but never find a solution. I sometimes suspect they like having a ‘diagnosis’.

Madonna at Murrayfield. . What a horrible gig, I only went when my wife’s pal bailed after car broke. A thoroughly listless performance preceeded by a beardy guy trying to snog me when we were waiting to get in. Worst of all, the warm up act was avicii.

I think I’ll get the Orange Speedwork you all advised me to buy. I’ll be going so fast the virus won’t catch me.

The new speedwork is £1090 and its stunning. Would easily be the best specced bike I ever had.

    Sexy bike

So I’m not the only one.

I’d build one but I’m only going to have the space for such things when I move to a new house in two weeks, no space means no tools or spare sparts. Equity release means new bike though with long term financial savings on the commute.

Thanks for all the input. I’ve narrowed down to Sonder Camino, CDF or Orange Superfly. A very helpful thread this has been.

    (anything called Superfly needs consideration)

I just like flat bars. Flat pedals too. I had a racer when I was a kid and never liked the drop position.

I avoid roads as much as possible but most of the 10 mile commute is on very high quality cycle path with just a mile or two of track.

So far I’m liking the CDF and Sirrus.

    They look good.

    Croix de Fer seems obvious.

    Anyone tried a Saracen Levarg?

Specifically a flatbar gravel bike, I’ve seen a few described as such. Sonder have one which is very tempting but purchasing one seems a pain, they’re waiting on parts etc.

Sign up to a procurement contract website. In Scotland the go to site Procurement Contracts Scotland.

If you use it well, and make sure your profile is fully specced out firms looking for suncontractors for big procurement bids will be able to find you.
