i’ve found it to be the best fitting helmet for my head. It’s a wee bit hot in the summer but no worse than any helmet. Although I do strap my helmet to my backpack if I know it’s a long climb.

Closest riding to Kelso is riding up in the Cheviots from Morebattle or Yeltholm. It’s about a 15 min drive from Kelo. Innerleithan is a 45 min drive away and Glentress a wee bit more.

Still love my morning glory for ventures into the hills and I keep promising to build up my KObe Ti again.

The sound of setting your bike up perfectly. No squeaks or creaks or chains trying to locate on cogs.

That and the sound of one of the knoblies on your tyre pinging when you hit a rock or root on a techy bit.

THe noise of riding the North Shore with the xylophone-esque rumble from the cedar slats.

I’m considering the same – i’ve been offered an old french tourer that’s seen better days, but it has some lovely details.

Do you have any photos to see what you’re starting with?

I love getting back on my 26″ chameleon. It feels so fast and nimble. I never get on the 27.5″ and notice the benefit of the bigger wheels but I always notice how fun the 26’s are. It’s down to the bike as well though

this for me with my morning glory. Some trails rock with the correct sized wheels

in the spirit of not answering the OP and recommending your own bike, I would look at the Troy. I’ve had it built for a week and really enjoying it

I just shipped one to France. Parcel2go will give you the basic quote and the norm seemd to be about £25-£30 with £50 damage cover. Once you start adding the coverage for insurance for the value of the frame, you can easily add another £60 on top.

I sent the Parcel2go link to the buyer and gave him the repsonsiblity of arranging pick up and therefore letting him choose the level of coverage.

i always built my bikes with big/big +2. Just built a FS with the big XT 11spd cassette and my old formula no longer works. : £40 chain cut too short

2nd the Scottish borders. Around Kelso there’s miles of quiet roads. Car drivers are generally polite too.

Just built up and had 1st shakedown ride. Really well balanced, quiet and pedals great.

I only ever seem to buy frames rather than complete bikes and then move everything across. Until I realise that some of the bits don’t fit and have to buy new bits 🙁 . For the ‘smallish’ stuff i’ll buy cash. For big purchases like frames or forks if there’s a 0% deal available i’ll do that but always have the cash as a back up. If no 0%, I will buy cash. This of course is on the proviso that I can spare the cash. I stopped using cc years ago after being a total dobber with them.

Where you are I would rather go to Cathkin braes for a couple of laps than driving to Carron Valley.

I’ve not been to Chalterhault for a while- but used to be ok for a scoot aboot.

I started riding rigid mountain bikes approx 30 years ago and ‘MTBing’ then was riding out to the countryside, smoking a couple of spliffs and finding a fast downhill stretch. I would never drive anywhere to cycle- the road work was part of the ride.
For the past 13 year my bikes have gradually increased in travel and going from trail to ‘AM’ to DH to ‘Enduro’ and driving everywhere to get to a ‘decent’ trail.

I’ve started losing interest in technical riding and starting to enjoy country rides from my door again (with a camera rather than a spliff)

1982 Bonneville that I took out on Satruday and now needs a wee bit of work to it.

this thread got me in the mood for some Soul mining- listening to the extra lp on the 30th anniversary edition. This is the Day is still my bad day record ala Lamacq. Smashing.

Is it just me or is Soul Mining the best album ever made?

I used to think that until Infected was released. Then he released Mind Bomb.

Listening back to the three of them, Mind Bomb would slightly edge it for me. I’m still amazed that albums released in the late ’80s are still so lyrically relevant. Matt Johnson was writing songs about Banking, Greed, Middle East conflict, Religious scaremongering, the collapse of inner cities etc that at the time was low on the political agenda.

I’ve only ever driven trhough Lochgilphead to get to Tarbert. Tarbert was a good wee town with a few boozers and quite pretty. The folk festival was on so the pubs were packed. What about inverrary?

ordered in Feb? Out of curiosity what is it your getting? I’m too impulsive for that and availability is a big part in frame choice.

But £500 on an older frame is a lot and not really any return to be had if you did look to get newer tec in the next year or so!

    I agree with this.

The rune is a great bike that allows you to use your existing stuff and change at a later date.

I’ve got one for sale on the classifieds- it’s too much bike for me now as I don’t get out often enough to justify it.

£2900 – not quite as good value as the Pro Race model with Fox and lots more carbon for a grand more, but still not bad VFM

    stonking value I would say
