I started listening to him when I bought a copy of Best of…. when it came out and then got hooked and bought all his back catalogue. It always takes me a while to get into new releases. I suppose this is to do with the fact that he’s written some of my all time favourite songs, and I’m always expecting great things from him.

Since then I’ve seen him live about 5 or 6 times and i’ve been blown away everytime by his performance. Brings a whole new perspective on his albums.

Still not listened to his latest album yet

I would keep the cash in my pocket if I was you. I prefer the disadvantages of 2×10 than the disadvantages of 1×11. I’ve yet to be convinced of the advantages.

    what about this?
    Devinci Troy

Reading your post, I was in a similiar position. Long and slack is great for big downhills- but other times it was kinda boring. The troy better suits the type of riding I do the majority of the time.

Not retro but vintage. Mid 1930’s i think, Osgear set up with brass shifters. Cleaned up the cranks and all the brass bits, got new wheels built on the original hubs by big AL. New tyres are now on it. Will spend a wee bit of time during the winter

Had one on my MTB and liked it- however it got trashed on a particularly wet and muddy ride and it took a few months to get back into shape. It’s now on my commuter/pub bike. There’s enough things on my MTB to maintain without having to fanny about treating a saddle like a pet.

As scotroutes said good for touring poor for MTB.

Do what chickenman suggested. Take the front mech off, but leave the granny ring on the front. Just manually switch to the granny (use your finger) for that 1 big long hill you ride

I wish they would come up with something that would save you having to use your finger to move the chain…

Spend your money on an upgrade instead like new brakes or tyres or whatever.

    Costs outweigh the benefits. IMO.

    New rear cluster
    New rear mech
    New rear shifter on bars
    New chain ring
    New chain

If your dad was going to make you one, why don’t you consider commissioning a good luthier to make one to your own spec rather than off the peg?

As above. If it was me I would get the luthier to put a subtle reminder, such as an inlay on the twelfth fret, of your old man.

    2. Telling your salary truthully is important. How would you feel if the company said “salary for the job is whatever we think but wont tell you till after we interview you

I just don’t get it why some Recruitment Agencies have this as a mandatory requirement (and others dont), especially if they are the ones contacting you. I always get RA’s contacting me through Linkedin ‘Dear Lobby- we’ve got a great opportunity for you blah blah- call us to discuss’ As soon as you call, the 1st thing they ask is what is your current salary? If you refuse to tell a stranger private information (between you and your current employer) the call goes no further. No skin off my back.

But why is this so important and why would you tell this to a stranger ? Why would you set a limit on your earnings or restrict the number of roles that may interest you?

Salary expectations should be based on the role, size of company, responsibilities, location, amount of travel required etc.

The key question should be what salary range would you consider. Everyone has different motivations for moving.

Don’t get me started on GGS either.

Lol! Its a bit of path outside the house that goes nowhere so I utilise it for parking. Gets the car off the road

    Pavement parker? Where’s my pitchfork.

The bike looks like a hoot and a holler though. is it weighty?

I am bemused by this often with bike adverts. Why wouldn’t you get a wet sponge and some soap on it for sale, just clean the crap out of it. People are spending the pointy end of £1000 and want to feel like they’re getting your pride and joy, the bike you love, the bike you’ve cherished for years.

What Weeksy said. For stuff that folks are trying to get top dollar,it turns me off when people don’t even make the effort to take the evidence of the last ride.

Massive road trip to BC. Starting at Retalack in the Kootenays, over to Kamloops, round to Chiliwack , Woodlot, a few days on the North Shore, over to the island for Cumberland and Comox, back to Squamish, Disneyland, Pemberton , up to Williams lake, then back to Whistler

to the OP- a new bike always feels initially better. In the process of building a new bike, you always get tempted to get a few upgrades (but you can blame it on change of standards). You take care to build it and get it set up. You’ve got the new bike buzz and everything is rolling along sweetly. Best bike you’ve ever had! However in the back of your mind you’re doing the sums of the cash you’ve spent and doubting is it really that much better than your previous bike. Or should you have went for the other best bike ever that the mags are bumming up this month.

I personally think that the long, low, slack, 160 mm enduro bikes are over hyped (or over biked) unless all your riding is a steep gnarlfest.

Why ddi you come to the conclusion that you wanted a 29er? What type of bike did you ride in Coed-y-brenin? And what type of riding do you think you want to do?

I would be more concerned about buying the wrong type of bike.
At £500 price point there’s a lot of options out there between 26, 27.5 and 29ers

I recommend having a look at the devinci troy. I was running a Rune and for much of the time it felt like I wasn’t using it to it’s potential. Also the slackness made the steering a wee bit ponderous on tight bits.

The troy is sharper and you actually feel like you’re going faster as the suspension isn’t overly smoothing out the trail.
