I tried this, well sort of, sold my 26er full sus then sold my 29er hardtail then picked up a Camber 29er 2016 model, so far so good. Well until I picked up a 6fattie as my other bike but that’s more a play toy.

Just been through this, mine was voluntary redundancy, well what happened was our night shift is being removed and replaced with twilight, as the new twilight falls under me as per the new structure I was required to work until 1am 5 shifts a week, and a second part time manager would work alongside me to work the “evenings” I was on day off. I refused the shift change which put me in the firing line, my options:

    Take the new shifts
Take a job in another location
Step down and have a 2 year pay off
    Redundancy

After considering all the options I took a job in a different location, just blew my savings on a new bike, I reckon come april this will happen again so will be saving my pennies until then.

Good luck with whatever route you choose.

Another Plus bike, I got mine today as well, looks great! I was tempted by the model below that one but went speshi instead.

Yep makes sense lower pressures so no need for the extra room. Looking forward to those autumn days and casually riding through the forests, really enjoyed the quick blast through Cannock this afternoon.

CFH, I did take the bike straight from the bike shop, I got odd looks changing pedals, removing the reflectors and the stupid bell on the train as it was, plus didn’t have what I needed to remove the plastic disc. But don’t worry its been removed now.

Found a Bonty G5 team in a 2.5″ guessing they will fit the rims and a back up if specialized don’t have a smaller tyre when the winter mud kicks in. Also found a WTB Trailblazer in the 2.5″ as well so a couple of options.

Didn’t notice how dusty the brake calliper is, needs a clean.

Will they screw straight in? Guessing they will need an adapter?

Which mud guards? Or any that any wide enough?

Its a suntour ncx fork, it does have on the one side a proper fitting but there’s nothing on the other side its really odd!

On the brake side about 2″ up the fork, its got a direct mount hole which currently has a plug in it and that’s all. On the non brake side it has a traditional quick release and next to that a normal fixing hole for a mudguard and 2″ up the leg another hole direct mount an inch above that another hole. More holes and plugs!!

I’m not far from Solihull, always lived on the edge. As above Cannock is easy to get to, I tend to get the train from Olton into Birmingham Moor Street and then a quick cycle/walk to New Street then the train to Hednesford.

I do road ride more and more, my route is Hall Green out to Earlswood via Alcester Road, then on to Packwood House, some days I head to warwick others stratford and if I need a quick 30 mile blast I tend to head back via knowle.

Quite a few cycling clubs for the road but only Solihull CC being the official one, but Red Kite and Dynamic Rides both do weekend and evening rides from the shops. You can quite quickly get into the countryside takes me about 20 mins and I’m away from the city.

I cancelled my stache order as thought 29er + was too much, I did however order the fuse expert 27.5 + I’m hoping will do the job!

Slightly different but I went for a specialized crosstrail, I went for the comp disc version which is a top end one before they get to carbon. The forks are heavy but the rest of the bike is spot on. I use down the horrible bham canals and a45 cov road as a work tool its a good bike.

    Stupid rules? or just stupidity?

I work for a certain supermarket.

I have to clock in / out yet I’m salaried paid, and all overtime gets crossed off.

A staff canteen that closes at 4pm every day yet staff work till 10pm and then through the night.

I have to enter my car reg into the system every day yet its supposed save the reg as I enter my employee number as well.

You can’t progress unless you blonde, female and have a massive pair of jugs.

    I need a proper job!!!

Just ordered the Stache 7, ive been thinking it over and over, going between a Fuse or Stache 7 £1350 at evans its a bit of a bargain and I can always get smaller wheels 650b, unlike the fuse I can’t run them bigger.

Went for the small frame, hoping its not too small, but looking at measurements its bigger than my full sus. Will post a pic when I get it!

Really like the stache 5, can’t figure out if the small is too small, tried to compare measurements against my other bikes but it didn’t work out ethier way!

I keep looking at the 5 if anyone spots one sub £1k and in small give me the heads up, looks perfect for my winter bike!

I do like a good orange, would love a segment but they don’t come in a small frame size which isn’t great tbh, had a test run on a four recently and that was a blast to ride, quite possibly my next bike once the dreaded c word is out of the way and we are into next year.

No from me, my last bike had one and lasted 3 years with nothing going wrong not even the bearings nothing happened to it at all. My new bike has one as well and again after a year trouble free so far.

Even though Gary Fisher/trek where ahead of the game back then, the early 29ers where terrible, a new one is so much better the geometry is better the lower or higher bb depending on style of riding, travel has changed offset forks etc…demo days will be your best bet and try a host of other bikes.

I will admit I still have fondness for the trek 69er the brown one, but my new 29er is loads of fun to ride.

3 miles to and from, going to work its all downhill, I’m not even sure I would call it a cycle, tend to not bother changing into commuting clothes stick to my work trousers/shirt. Coming home sometimes I go down the canals add another 10 miles but tend to go home change and take the road bike out. I was walking but 40min walk cut down to a 10 min pootle.

The stock revs have been outstanding, was a bit unsure and was thinking of getting some pikes but now I’ve ridden them in they have performed better than the reba’s I’ve pretty much always used. Set them up a year ago and haven’t touched them since, the first ride out they weren’t quite right but after ignoring the air pressure settings I’ve found the sweet spot and haven’t touched them since. I haven’t noticed them flexi in anyway but this is potentially the best bike I’ve had in my bike history.

Trek 6500 (2006), Trek Fuel Ex7(2008), Orange P7 (2012), Camber expert 2012 and now the Camber Comp 2016.

I used to have the Camber Expert from 2012 the last of the 26ers and this was the replacement bike, its been faultless and a laugh to ride at times.

Yep the 2016 is essentially evo from 2015. It’s a great bike I love mine! Same as said above smashing all my strava records on it. I’ve got the 29er, rode cyb yesterday first time in the tarw trail, that was a bit hairy at times but the bike lapped it up.

The biggest issue from reading reviews is that nothing really changed its the same bike as the 2015 and looking at the 2017 model they have left it alone again.

Not long gone through this. I messed up the first one and it cost me, we found a house, instructed a solicitor then had the survey done. The survey came back awful, so we pulled out, but the solicitor still (rightly so) his fee’s as he had done some work.

Second time I used a broker, paid £599 for mortgage arrangement for the life of the mortgage, so we can pop back rearrange at 2 year and 5 year and he isn’t tied to a bank so we got to see all the deals based on our credit checks etc. I also found a solicitor that wouldn’t charge us if this failed a second time so we didn’t lose out, although I had to really push some days to get him to do some work.

I’ve got the 29er camber comp 2016 version and love it, I was in the same boat thinking do I get the stumpy which I demoed but preferred the camber in the end.

Main reason is I keep my tyres to the ground and Cannock is my local so nothing too hairy there and the bike is more than good enough for those welsh trips.

My one and only gripe is the paintwork is terrible scratches at the sight of a cleaning cloth.

I’ve only got one proper LBS near me, and the reason I don’t shop there is simple, its just too cluttered.

Its a great new shop as they recently moved they have 3x the space they used to have yet its still full, you have to fight your way round the shop. I’ve given up going in there unless I’m passing and really need something like an inner tube the other week and then I just went to the till and asked if they had the size I was after let them fight there way round.

I genuinely worry about when my bb goes and I need to get it worked on how I will get my bike with its big 29er wheels round the shop to the workshop.

There is a nice specialized concept store not to far away, that’s well spaced and nice to browse, never had to try there servicing but might when the bb goes.

When I lived in a flat the guy opposite was dealing and the woman directly below, the guy opposite best neighbour I’ve ever had, took my parcels in when I was at work, quiet no parties couldnt ask for more except the odd police raid at 7am he was ok, his customers all seemed to respect him and he had a kid so mostly kept it away from the flats.

The woman downstairs a nightmare, rows at 3am dragged away by the police loads of times, beat up her boyfriends or customers. Her son and his mates would go out on there flash mountain bikes (never seen a trail) dealing from there man bags. Must of been first few weeks after we moved in, I was going out on one of my bikes, he was in the hallway and smiled saying nice bike have to get one, I had my d-lock in my hand at the time, I made it very clear what would happen if mine went missing and the first place I would be sticking said lock. 8 years later no thefts, but pretty sure he would of.

Dealing is part of modern day life, just log it and report it.

I had the vtr one for 7 years, got rid when the sensordrive failed, cost more to fix than worth, as a cheap hatch great little car, nippy down the country lanes quick enough on the motorways. As others have said some have been boy racer ragged so look carefully at them, if you find the gt or code version both limited run do tend to of been looked after a bit more or a loeb one which are rare but they do pop up from time to time, tempted to get another myself at some point, the ds3 I replaced it with doesn’t have the same energy or feel.

Someone will tell me ive been an idiot but we got our first home about 3 months ago, rented all the time before hand and we went for a repayment as we wanted stability, we pay £600 a month on a £125k mortgage over 25 years, the interest is crazy in my eyes, its about £55k in interest. But its cheaper than our rent was and we have a 3 bed house and a garden compared to a flat and we finish paying just before we plan to retire so it suits us. I thought it was being sensible and gives us the ability to plan the rest of our lives.

If you’ve got a car, check out insurance quotes for postcodes your interested in. I rented in Solihull for years postcode b92 no issues, I moved 2 miles down the road when I purchased my first house. I was daft and didn’t even think the postcode would be an issue, I moved to the edge of B11, 10 of the top worse postcodes for claims are in the Birmingham area which I only found out when I had my car insurance and home insurance cancelled by a certain insurer as they wouldn’t insure my postcode. Even though I had 12 years no claims on the car and I only claimed for a laptop coffee spill about 5 years ago, not great.

Solihull is pretty good for getting out on the road bike, mountain biking not so much, but Cannock isn’t too far away on the train.

Pick the right month, and Scotland, loads of places I want to ride up there and I know I could go to Canada or New Zealand but just being able to hit the trails I want day to day is a winner.

It’s the back up process and the cleaner works with us not contracted out and has the same training all of the team have, including deliveries. Would never ask someone to help who hasn’t got the basic training, that’s a big no no!

We have changed a fair bit after the first one, back to basics as it were. The issues lie with the yard it wasn’t designed to drag heavy cages over its all rutted and generally a mess, the other is the cages from depot, some times you get cages with perfect wheels and they roll sort of, but a lot of the time you get cages with square wheels where they have been dragged across the warehouse, 9 times out of 10 you don’t know until you drag it off the tail lift and the thing just stops.

I have personally sent back over 100 cages in the last month all labelled broke, who knows how many go back into circulation.

Have already kept a record of all the actions I’ve taken and reference numbers of head office calls and times/dates I’ve had conversations with my boss stating how unacceptable the situation is.

I just feel crap not being there, I know its a job, I get attached to what I do, looking after my team etc…

The lift was decommissioned, has taken them all this time to get the payment authorised, we have had some pretty bad accidents over the last few weeks, 2 staff have got broken toes due to running over there feet, i’ve had a cage tip and fall on me, never seen so many bruises that week, another manager had the contents of one cage slide out and take him out, and he is a big lad. We have had head office health and safety out but it won’t be replaced until September.
