    MTBs change the most

The road world is still getting hung up on disk brakes 25 years after we had all the same arguments in MTB

I like it for a record, to guage fitness, and to see what mates and the odd pro are doing. Nice to see what colleagues who live abroad are riding too #cyclingstillthenewgolf. Not interested in koms, up or down.

Big enough to have good shops, restaurants, culture
Small enough to get out into the countryside (cannot be flat and must support some MTB)

Boy Swallows Universe is good. Surreal/comedy/tragedy growing up around drugs and violence in Aus in the 80s. There’s a novel. Reported to be based on his life. Lots of mullets.

Sub zero was good, rode one, should have bought one.

Rode my MK2 inbred till it broke. Not done that with any other frame, admittedly holes in the chainstay were a bit of a feature on them. but again, it’s not your criteria.

But I bet both of those sold nothing outside the UK.

You need to widen it up a bit and say what ‘greatest’ means

We have the fabulously named Tail Wagon and the Minnow looks identical if a bit smaller, but then big enough for 1 dog.

Fyi if your bike has a through axel you’ll need a new one to adapt

Worked from home full time since about 2016. No point in going to the office now, all my colleagues are abroad.

Be creative about your space, but get a special space that is only you when working. I’ve gone from a corner of a bedroom, to a desk in the utility, to a dedicated office room. All worked.

Hard stops for lunch and end of day. Get a reason that you have to stick with them. Eg I’m about to take the dogs out, stop every day at this time for that. Later I’m out for a ride so will stop for that, got similar every day.

Don’t go Homer Simpson, make an effort to wear the same clothes you would wear in the office.

Use your camera for calls if not ‘mandatory’

Wireless headphones with a long range.

    Music helps me with procrastination.

We are leasing an id.5. Can’t adjust the regen, it works like above with 2 modes. The steering wheel buttons are fine, must hold the wheel different to everyone else. The UI is fine. I like the drive BUT I pootle about and am no car head. Lane assist is nowhere near as aggressive as some. The unlit shortcuts under the display is annoying. Other stuff about it _is_ shit: in particular the wider ecosystem away from the car, like the phone app and other online services and how well (or not) all those things work  together; or the voice interface; or the cost to buy.

I made one based on the sliding gate hardware. It was better by far than anything I’d used before, and not too expensive, cost maybe 150 all in for 8 bikes.

But garage renovation time meant update to a Stashed system. It’s better again in that it slides more easily, has bumpers on the runners, and rotates to alternate the bars, so you can really easily squish the bikes into a small space. Cost about 300 more than DIY and a lot less time.

Did the Wessex one. Well organised, no stress, not busy, range of abilities. Would do another. Quite fancy Tuscany or Portugal, maybe next year.

Tried a few new ones last week. Really liked Big Drop Galactic Milk Stout.

Also got a bottle of Pentire Coastal Spritz. Didn’t do it for me, maybe on a summer evening, or mixed with gin.

I’m a Virgo (Prime): 13 foot tall teenager discovering the world. Spoiler: it’s not really about that. Something really dreamlike about it. A bit different.

Vigil 2: Who would have thought it was possible to make something stupider than Vigil 1? Still watched it all though.

Long distance driving in France is not always the dream it’s made out to be on these threads. Peage is better on the most part, but it won’t all be peage, there are tiring busy bits around/through cities just like the UK. You’ll probably go through Rouen which will make you wonder that perhaps you made a mistake and missed a turning because it shouldn’t be like this.

Still having said that I’d be tempted to do it on one, certainly if  2 drivers. If not basic hotel in near Calais/Dover, doesn’t matter where, just somewhere not far off the autoroute/motorway.

For reference last summer did Bath to just south of Tours. Left at 2 am, early train, got there about 3pm. Stopped a couple of times on French side. One person driving.

Nearly all these suggestions with the exception of Sheffield fall well short of ‘lively’.

Bath is OK for MTB but your going to want to do trips away (liveliness borderline)

Bristol maybe slightly better if you can live in distance from the good stuff (almost too lively)

Mason resolution, 32mm tyres, full length guards.

Not light, but who cares, you aren’t racing are you, and going slow gives you more time to see how nice it looks.

I’m on 1x mechanical, I like it, but I am slow and club rides / chain gangs are not my thing. Probably upgrade to 1x wireless just to annoy people.

The reality show where they convinced a bunch of people that they were going into space, and then filmed them for 48hours in a big flight simulator.

There was a selection process where they said they were seeing how astronauty they where, but were really selecting based on gullibility.

There was some story to explain the lack of zero gravity, which was accepted by all.

The crunch point was where a fly was walking on the earth projection outside the ‘capsule’.

    Edit: Space Cadets

I work with an Italian academic who can go for 10 minutes just with noises and hand gestures, never mind the actual talking. Thank god English is not his first language.

I did a Ratio conversion on some 11 speed SRAM drop bar shifters, and now they work with a 12 speed eagle mech, so 10-52. The conversion is easy.

    AXS would be easier.

It’s easier to do them covered with foil slightly lower for longer, then uncover and put them in the oven with the potatoes at the end for 5-10 mins

You know the restaurant scene in Succession when they cover their heads with a shame mask while eating a songbird?

I suppose all restaurants sell experience to some extent, it was interesting to see that pushed to a limit
