680mm on the Ragley, 710mm on the TranceX. Prefer the 710mms.

Epson SX515W, nice and cheap £65 from Amazon, compatible inks available for pennies. I’ve had mine since just before Christmas, it was easy to set up. The only criticism is it can be a little loud in use.

San franciscos are great for the money. Don’t use the obvious orange homescreen but swich to the standard android one that’s available, that improves the speed considerably. This has been typed with one, thus the shoddy punctuation. Very much recommended. There are plenty of bits of information on the internet about this phone ranging from general tips to rooting the phone.

I’ve found that a section of old Vacuum cleaner pipe normally works on 1 1/8 inch steerer tubes.

Right, I'll try again as it didn't work, did it…..

    New one – with 100 – 140 mm 2009 Marzocchi 44s – run at 125 mm

Old one – with 100 – 130 mm Revelations – ran at 115 mm – In garage, stripped down, needing refurbishment.

The latest pictures of my Trance X

It looks nothing like this now but,

Much has happened to the spec since then, but….

As a 2009 Trance X owner, I'm finding the 2011 curved down tube, straight top tube a little odd. It seems a backward step. The 2010 Anthem X looks good, the 2010 Trance X looks good, but to try and combine the two just doesn't work……

    High rise bar.

To be honest the long head tube on my Trance X has meant I have put wide flat bars on mine. I use adjustable Marzocchi 44s mainly set at 130mm though which are slightly longer than Rockshoxs.

    Don't despair too much. See
    South Essex Castle Point example[/url].

The prior government housing targets no longer apply so there is no necessity for these unpopular developments to take place. The Castle point example is probably a good model to follow – It was a major issue here at the general election. In a safe Tory seat an independent got 12000 votes on exactly this sort of issue. The new Tory MP has been forced to pull a few strings to ensure these developments won't take place.

If the council insists on carrying out the plans in Swanage the inference is that there is some 'external incentive' to do so.

I did the 50k today – frankly it was just a bit too hot. Collingbourne woods were good, seemed to me that the course was set up to include just a bit more of the woods than in previous years. If I had known that the temperature was to be as high as it was I would have just done the 30k.

Glad to hear you're happy – I'm about a inch and a half shorter than you and have ridden medium Trance and Trance X s for the last 4 years – Which are just big enough. Large is certainly your size…..

    Nonetheless it's a great bike.

I found Beconase spray was an effective way of preventing hayfever symptoms without too many side affects. As I've got older I've found I've needed to use it less.

Yes I'm poor. I bought a new Trance X frame, meaning to replace the Forks off my old Trance. Despite my calculations and measurements the steerer was 5mm too short so I bought a set of the Marzocchi 44s. I only got them on Friday and haven't ridden them yet. I took a chance because of the 3 yr warranty despite all the bad reputation Marzocchi seems to have had recently.

If you are poor and willing to take a chance these might be an option

Just completed building up a 2009 medium Trance X frame with bits added. 18" medium frame plus 90 mm stem plus 100 – 140 mm adj fork. OK, I know its a Marzocchi fork but for the price I'm taking a chance. Judging by reviews the 44 ATA rather than the 44 micro seems to be OK. I used to have a medium Trance and the sizing was right at the bottom of the range for a 5'11.5" sized fat bloke. However I tried a Trance X large and it just seemed too big so I stuck with the medium. With a 1" layback post it seems OK but to be fair I winch myself to the top of the hill and ride back down again, so top tube length is secondary. In a purely shallow way, I'm impressed with the way it looks, but it's early days, more riding is necessary…….

By the away – the drive's a shambles, but if it looked too tidy the local scabbards would get the impression it's worth breaking in to my house…….

5/7 – but I did know them. The two guesses were both wrong. I thought they were quite hard for Mastermind.

BK – I've got Specialized Resolutions on them at the moment, so high volume 2.1 tyres. Have used Bontrager 2.2,and they will probably go up to normal 2.3 / conti 2.4s. They've been good so far, but I do ride in the south without too many rocks, but they are quite light. I'm 16 stone and didn't bust them over the course of 2009. CRC made the wheels with Disc Jockey hubs. They were cheap at the time, but they are not so cheap now. Up until these I've always had wheels built with F519/XM719 rims, bought these to try and cut down on weight.

    Hope that helps.

EQ23s are not quite as burly, nor as wide as the Mavic 719. I have a set on my Trance – for fat boy xc, have been pretty good so far.

Yes, another lurker here, Ro5ey's reasons are very similar to mine. The other time I've posted in the past is drunk late at night. I stopped that once I realised the rubbish I wrote in that condition.

I'll add to the quality of the Disc Jockey hub based wheels. I bought a set from CRC with EQ23 rims last year for less than £140 when they were ridiculously cheap. At today's prices some of the other second hand options mentioned might be better value though.

I'm an inch and a half taller than you and plumped for the 18". You're right – you're right in between sizes, it all depends on what sort of ride you want. Judging by your comments, I really think you need to try one out for size. Not helpful in itself but realistic… Sorry………..
