Once or twice a week (10-20 mile) on some urban off-road stuff (river paths, etc). I love it, stomp stomp stomp.

Wouldn't get me doing a proper off road ride with it though!

TK Max for certain – I normally ride with 5 10's, but have picked up cheap Vans and Etnies in there too. The Vans are the next best thing to 5 10's. It's just a case of going in regularly and you'll eventually find something perfect.

    Oxford definition of vermin…

    vermin

    • noun treated as pl. 1 wild mammals and birds which are harmful to crops, farm animals, or game, or which carry disease.
    2 parasitic worms or insects.
3 very unpleasant and destructive people.

Blimy derek – that's pretty nasty. Funny you should post this 'cos I changed some grips a wee while back and the ends are still open on that bike cos I don't have any bar plugs which fit.

I'm gonna make sure I get some now after seeing your post.

I run 2.35 Kenda Nevagals on the HT and they are at their best up on the Hills – that kind of hard packed surface/rocky stuff seems to be where they excel. Even on the muddier stuff lower down they cope fine. There are not that many root-infested trails on the hills nearest me though.

But they do live up to their 'Kenda surprise' reputation on that short Malvern grass when it's wet. 8O

Heh heh – been there, done that, got reet stinky. I've cleaned it before so no longer feel the need to prove the point (or, to be honest….risk of failure and landing in the stinkydrink early in the ride is far too high  )

But if you're gonna then it's the usual…total commitment, keep a good momentum, look ahead, don't look at the edge and if it does go wrong just relax into the fall rather than awkwardly trying to stop yourself.

If you don't want to marry someone (but are otherwise totally committed) and they run off because you won't, they sound totally selfish and needy to me! don't you want a partner who respects what you want too?

Works both ways….and it's one of those things where I think it's unfair to blame either party (i.e. the one who doesn't want to commit and the one who feels the need to be married). Neither can help the way they feel and neither would be 'at fault' or a 'worse person' for choosing to end the relationship because of it. Just my opinion, of course.

I agree about naming and not-shaming the better companies too – to be fair, I've had excellent service from CRC and wiggle.

It is a problem, I am very unlikely to buy from any website now which does not show stock status (it might be a hassle for the retailer but if you're going to sell online properly it's something you need to setup). I'm also unlikely to order stuff that is shown as out of stock as you have no way of knowing when it'll be in.

I agree. I wouldn't order out of stock stuff or from websites not showing stock status either.

The frustrating thing is, Leisure Lakes said it was in stock at the time, and did when I checked again after I had ordered!

    quick update…

    to which I replied…

"I feel it is totally unacceptable that the money has been debited from my credit card before the goods have been dispatched and therefore I wish to cancel the order"

Quite satisfying telling them to stick it actually, sure I'll find him another pressie in time!

It was Leisure Lakes (this time).

I sent them an email today saying

"Do you have any more information regarding the delivery time for this jacket? It is supposed to be for a Birthday Present and I need it by the 6th of October. From checking my credit card statement today, I see the money has already been taken from my account so I am assuming they have come in and are ready for dispatch"

    to which they curtly replied….

"No the jacket is not in stock yet unfortunately, it should be in stock around the beginning of next month"

BTW. [and this is a bit uncomfortable to ask] Are you absolutely sure there is no-one else on the scene? Because if there is, things are more complex.

Yeah, that's true – it's not that unlikely if she has been dropping hints for 8 years that the trigger for her finally leaving is actually finding another potential candidate.

Does happen, no doubt about it.

Del – I used the correct 'report defect' form on their website and have just tracked my defect request on their website.

All it says is "Request has been received – waiting for processing"

Guess I'll just have to wait…..

I ordered a P7 recently which, as expected, took a while to arrive. It worked intermittently when I got it however, and I contacted them through the website last week to report the fault.

I have had no reply. No confirmation that they have looked into the complaint. So I have a non-working P7 and have no idea whether I'll get a replacement or my money back.

Marilyn – Orange 222 – one most likely to fall apart out of all the bikes I own, and the one that gets ridden the most and the hardest (prolly should do something about that :| )

Eric – all day beast – Marin attack trail

Dillon – long travel HT – bling bling favouritist bike

SS – for urban riding, mostly.

What does she want from you? Marriage? Or just for you to say 'lets try and make this work long term?

If it's marriage then that's an easy one – you go, get a ring and follow her round on one knee until she puts it on ;)

If it's the latter, then you'll just have to keep trying I'm afraid. If it's gonna work out she'll listen because she must be feeling as bad as you do right now.

How long have you known she wants commitment? A while, or just as she walked out the door?

Fact is, if you can't give commitment (whatever that was to her, marriage? living together?) to someone, they can't mean that much to you.

You really need to ask yourself – am I upset because "she has gone" or am I upset because "she is gone and that leaves me on my own"?

Some relationships look great on paper/feel great at the time, but if you both have differing ideas regarding long term plans (or lack of them) then it's gonna start falling apart.

You can't always tell when someone is the right person, but you do know when they are not. Guess she realised that waiting around for someone who couldn't give her what she needed meant they weren't the right one.

If you honestly want it to work with her, you're gonna have to put some serious effort in right now, take the plunge and get it sorted. But if the thought of that makes you feel a little empty inside then it's probably better she's gone.

Hope things work out for the best for you both. :)

I changed from SPD's to Flats about a year ago and, although sometimes tempted, haven't gone (and prolly wont go) back to SPD's.

    Flats:
Forces better riding technique and body positioning if you are not/ever going to be a riding God. My riding has improved 500% since changing to flats. If I'm not relaxed, keeping my heels back, compressing at the right time etc, my feet come off the pedals. Nowt like that to start learning how to get it right!

Seemingly less injury risk as I mostly bounce well clear of the bike now if I have a big off, or bail sensibly before that happens.

    Easier to restart.

    Don't need SPD shoes.

    Look better (IMO)

Oh and feet do stay on over the rough stuff/jumps/drops once you get the technique.

    SPD's:
Far superior for climbing (particularly technical).

Makes speed hopping/riding rough stuff easy because you can pull the bike up

Foot always in the same position on the pedal (probably the only thing now that makes me think about changing back is getting frustrated by not finding the 'sweet spot' on flat pedals and having to keep repositioning my feet until I do. You'd think by now it'll be second nature).
