dibs doesn’t mean ‘I’ll buy it’ it means ‘can I preserve the opportunity to buy it first’.
Usually for a short period of time due to needing to examine its condition (hence the pics request) or check if it will fit what they’ve already got.
I ask for dibs if I’m pretty keen on something, and I don’t mind giving it either, but I try to be clear that I won’t hold it for long if theres other interest.
