I’ve just fitted a continental cross king to the front and a race king on the rear of my 650b surly for the same type of riding as you describe. Usually run wtb byways.

Not had chance to use them yet, but they are both meant to be fast rolling tyres

Hoping to head up tomorrow to avoid the bad weather in the lakes!

It’s important to thoroughly clean down the new plaster before mist coating as well, scraping back any plaster snots or rough edges as you go.
New plaster can have a fine dust layer on it so if it’s not cleaned you’re effectively painting on top of dust and dirt which can affect paint adhesion.

The mist coat also allows you to see what an where needs filling on your walls too before you commence with top coats. thinned acrylic primer undercoat always works well as a mist coat if costs on the job allow, your top coats will flow out better on top of it and dry more evenly.

@singlespeedstu That’s great thankyou, I’ll be on an all black Geometron, would be good to get some pointers on what’s where etc. I’ll look out for you 👍🏼

Sorry for the thread hijack but is the climb still closed and if so is the diversion obvious? Hopefully heading there tomorrow and not ridden there before, may leave it for another time if it’s tricky to navigate the diversion, cheers

Surly midnight special, really comfortable on all day road rides, great on forest roads greenlanes etc.
Mines currently set up with 650×47 wtb byways and full mudgaurds

Any Geometron owners got a spare 0 offset rado mech hanger they’d be looking to sell?

Clattered my mech off a rock yesterday, fortunately looks like the mech is ok but the hangers twisted.
Will give Geometron a call for one next week just thought I’d try here first, thanks

I’ve got an old specialized tricross singlespeed which is great for jobbing about and commuting, done some light touring on it in the Scottish isles, love the simplicity and low maintenance of it and it’s a great tool to get very fit quickly!
Find it a bit limiting sometimes living in hilly Cumbria especially riding with lads on geared bikes.
May be keen on your Croix de Fer if you decide to sell/px

Damp sponge around external corners when using wallrock, it’s a fibre paper not a woven type so you shouldn’t get any issues with expansion and contraction. Also use a ready mixed paste such as beeline for best results.
Internal corners can either be overlapped and spliced as described above or butted and filled/caulked.
Try and use the fibreliner ‘smooth’ version if you are painting rather than papering over, provides a much nice finish.
    Hope that helps

Decorator here, only used wethertex from that list but heard good things about andura paints. Wethertex is a very good paint in my experience though.

I also repair cracks in render as described above using toupret fillers. If roughcast render then sponging or stippling out the repair to try to blend it in.

Any job or paint is only as good as the preparation though so I’d expect a full clean/jetwash of any previous coatings and bleach/fungicidal wash at least.
I’d also consider mixing owatrol eb into the first coat.

Loads of clearance, running a minion dhr2. My frames the generation with the 83mm BB shell (2018 model) not sure if this has any bearing on the way the back end is designed for running 29

Came from a helius AC to a Geometron G16 in 29er with a fairly modest build, no carbon anywhere, hope fortus 26 with 2.35 tyres.

I loved the helius and it climbed well and descended a bit better but the G16 is better in all areas. Climbs better, loads more grip on the back end and no wandering front end.

Composed and stable descending, doesn’t get hung up in tight knacky tech just needs a bit more muscle and a bit of thought to body position to get through tight slow corners.

I’m a couple of months into riding it and still tweaking the shock setup etc but no regrets. It’s my first 29er too and not looked back.

A loop around kerrera in good weather is pleasant for an afternoon, there used to be a seafood cafe hut type thing over there too which was perfect for a bit of food and a beer before the short ferry crossing back to oban

No real need for stabiliser on new work as it’s meant for binding down old chalky friable surfaces.
Thinned first coat onto the rough cast after it’s had a good clean/dust down. If you can get hold of some add ‘owatrol eb’ (emulsabond) to your first thinned coat.

Kilchoman machir bay, not too heavily peated islay malt from a small farm style distillery.

I used dpd when I sent my shock off for service. Arranged it all online and was provided with a postage label and barcode to print off and stick to the box. My local collection point was a branch of matalan and got it delivered back to my home address. Was provided with all the tracking details etc. Was all hassle free

There’s camping at sandyhills bay, facilities were spotless when I stayed and you can park next to your tent. Think there was a pub nearby but never went.
Riding for Dalbeattie starts about a mile or so up the road at Colvend where you can ride into the forest on a minor road that starts just behind the village shop and eventually joins the blue/red trails.

I spray occasionally if it’s the right job for it and I can guarantee there’s no other trades coming and going, usually on empty property and new commercial and domestic work for misting and bringing ceilings to a finish. I don’t own the sprayer but borrow it off a mate I used to sub to, it’s not top of the range by any means but suits us for occasional use, think it’s a wagner power painter 60 off the top of my head.
Works really well if it’s cleaned properly and the piston oiled after each job (cleaning usually takes upto an hour at the end of the day). It goes through a lot more material than rolling and the overspray can be bad depending on the paint but if the job is right for it it’s a no brainer, you can potentially earn back the initial outlay over a few jobs.

Specialized hillbilly on the front, butcher on the rear. Seems to work well this winter riding in the lakes and scotland. Butchers a bit draggy at times but can’t fault the hillbilly

Yeah zinsser gardz is a very useful in the right circumstances. The spec sheet is on the zinsser website. You shouldn’t need a lot if it’s just small areas of the walls with problems.

I was meaning that the plaster could of been overworked in those areas bringing the pva nearer the surface. If the mist coat is soaking in like it’s supposed to then the water is reactivating it just under the surface. It looks like contamination from something or other though even if it turns out pva isn’t the culprit!

    lion

Looks like the pva used by the plasterer is being re wetted and reactivated by the paint in that area.

I’d sand back and feather out the edges, dust and clean down and apply a coat of zinsser gardz.

Allow to dry and then coat up the areas again with your contract matt.

Give all the walls a light sand over and clean down to check for any more problem areas before applying your top coats

El Churassco Meloneras restaurant on the seafront in Maspalomas is a good shout for an evening out.

We did a decent road ride heading out of Maspalomas past the water park swimming place taking the minor road up into the mountains past a couple of nice tapas places.

Apparently at the top you can either bear right and go offroad over the damn and reservoir and head back into town via good rocky doubletrack or as we did stick to the road and head up left winding to the top of the pass and return to the main road passing the water park. Freemotion in town will be a good place to get route info

From memory mine was running bushings on steel axles which had pitted and corroded badly, they weren’t creaking but had developed loads of play and needed replacement. If your able to disassemble the back end of the bike down to the main pivot and then clean and regrease that could sort it

    lion
    Free Member

If you email nicolai directly they are pretty helpful and respond quickly. There are exploded diagrams of the pivot assembly’s lurking somewhere on their website or they will email them over if you ask

    lion
    Free Member

Do you know if the pivots are running on bushings or bearings? My helius ac runs on bushings so it could possibly be worn or dry bushings needing some tlc or replacement, just a guess

Johnstones quick dry (waterbased) polyurethane varnish in a satin finish. Easy to use and gives a nice finish.
