They make a fat bike tyre which is a copy of the FBN in 4″ & 4.9″.
I have the 4.9 and its been good for quite a few thousand miles so far.

How many people did you beat?? Comedy gold!

I did a 1.21.40 for the 30miles finishing 36th out of 61, only about 5 mins slower than when I did it on my old TT bike a few years before!

I usually ride with quite a high saddle, it might be the mid sole cleats that are making it look lower 😉

Haha I know, I was too lazy to take it off 🙂

A fat bike is actually perfect for that course, as the surface is pretty nasty in some places and generally very bumpy for the rest 🙂

    Budget lightweight race bike –

Most of the build list here.
12.7kg there, will lose a kg+ with new wheels Im getting built just now.
You dont need a lot of money to make a lightweight bike, just patience to find the right parts.

Only raced on the road so far, for a laugh –

Get the brakes and ignore the stupid scare remarks, people having using Chinese carbon frames, forks, stems, bars etc… for years and with very few issues.
Ive got 3 sets of these and they’re great lightweight brakes, and use standard BB5 pads – http://www.dx.com/p/cycletrack-bike-bicycle-hydraulic-disc-brake-407967

    motozulu,
Yep, its fine long term, over 9000 miles between two bikes, tyre pressures between 4 & 30.
Once you get the hang of doing the wrap, its also very easy to swap tyres. Can be done in about 5mins.

    highlandman,
Its really nothing to do with reducing wheel weight (as above, you can get a light weight tube that will be lighter than some tubeless set-ups), a tubeless tyre rolls differently and being a big tyre, it will pick up a lot more sharp objects, thorns etc… that will flat tubes.

The reason I finally went tubeless, was because of the low pressures the valves kept getting ripped off because the tube was moving inside the tyre. I didn’t want to go tubeless, but it was my only option.

    thisisnotaspoon,
I agree, but that goes for most of the other methods too. Only a real tubeless rim can fix that.

Huge roll of packing wrap for less than £6 and I cut that in half.

A lot of hassle and expense from the above methods!
I don’t know why more people don’t just use the “Packing Wrap” method!
Its cheap, super light, no need to pack the rim centre out and you can inflate the tyre with any pump – Packing Wrap Method.

I use this on all 6 of my wheels, 4 of them are OO wheels, V1 & V2.

Im happy with my bike weight on a small budget, but for a money no object bike, this is hard to beat 😮

NW, that’s the original Fatty, the Trail is 400g lighter 😉

Yep, my other do everything OO Fatty is around 20kg and built to run in any conditions, as its kitted out with full (diy carbon) mudguards and rear rack etc… Weight is not too much of an issue on that one any more now as I have the Trail which I can use for TT’s & chaingangs.
My V1 Fatty was 15.4kg when it arrived, and swapping bars, tubes etc.. I got it down to 13.7kg before it started to get bloated with add-ons.

The Q-tubes are good and although both my fatties are tubeless now, I carry a Q-tube with both and they’re not stupid big like fat bike tubes so can fit in a saddle bag 🙂

Good spot on the shifter, its a Zee, so about 140-150g.
Click on the link above for the brakes, around 200 each end, all in.
The grips were foam ones at 11g a pair, but have now been changed for normal bar tape which comes in at 40g for both sides double wrapped.

They aren’t fat bike tubes, they’re Q tubes (2.1-3″) which is the go to lightweight tube for fatties.

The 160mm Ashima Rotors were all coming in under 70g for the two pairs I bought.

As I said above, 12.7kg with pedals, so around 400g for them, means about 400-500g for the stuff I forgot including the shifter.

I know a lot of people will scoff, but its pretty much some of the cheapest carbon on ebay.
    Bars (620)and stem (120).
Lightweight brakes, that have never let me down and do everything I ask of them.
    Plus Ashima Rotors.

I have similar stuff on my other OO Fatty that I have had for 2 years with 7500 miles on it, so cheap Chinese carbon isn’t as bad as some people make out.

Yeah, I totally get what you’re saying.
I only weighed the parts so I knew where the extra weight was coming from and where I could upgrade latter.

monkeyboyjc, I know, that’s why most of the weights are mine.

It was 12.7kg as pictured above, that’s with the heavier double chainring adaptor for the 42T.

Its my race bike, so I made it as light as I could at the time.

Yep, that will all fall in the “100-150 that I missed”.

Its 1×10 with cheap carbon bars/stem & saddle from ebay (China).

Saddle was about a tenner, I have the same type on most of my bikes.

Different tyres, but similar weight and road sized chainring.

John, crashtestmonkey, let me know if I’ve missed anything:

    Frame – 2000
    Fork -600
    Bars – 109
    Stem – 147
    Seat Post Pump – 475*
    Saddle – 100
    Brakes – 400 (200×2)
    Rotors- 135 (66/69)
    Crankset – 586
    28T ring – 46
    BB – 110
    Cassette – 335
    Mech – 330*
    Chain – 260
    Tyres – 2800* (1400×2)
    Tubes – 370 (185×2)
Wheels – <3000* (I didn’t weigh them at the time, but new 80mm drilled fatty wheels are under 2950, old wheels are 70mm)

11803 – without pedals, maybe another 100-150 or so for anything I’ve missed?!

*Places where I could easily save more weight.

You dont need to buy an expensive bike, its just mostly the wheels/tyres that need to be light.
I built up a OO Fatty Trail on a tight budget, and it came in at just over 12kg, and that was with the standard (self drilled) V1 OO wheels and Floaters with light tubes.
Its 1×10 with cheap carbon bars/stem & saddle from ebay (China).
I could probably get it around 10kg with carbon wheels and JJ’s.

I held a KOM on an “up the hill and down the other side” segment for quite a while. One night I was out with a pal, we were stopped chatting at the top of the hill of that segment when I saw a guy on an absolute mission zooming up towards us. Unbidden, I held open the gate for him and gave him a bit of encouragement as he sped straight through.

    Yes, he took my KOM.

To be fair he blitzed my KOM by more than the 10-15 seconds I gifted him, but don’t want to spoil the cool story bro.

If I remember rightly, you held it open for me the next week too 😀

    Cheers 😀

But one traveller, who was on the tram immediately before the crash, said he had not been surprised by the derailment.
“The rate you see tram drivers hare around those corners is frightening,” said Con O’Sullivan. “They do go really fast when they travel on this route. I am not surprised something like this has eventually happened.”

Yeah, looks like the driver is pulling the “Glasgow Bin Lorry Driver” defence!

I got a waterproof gilet that had mesh sides, but it still wasn’t very breathable, so I got a pair of scissors and cut lots of holes out the back. It made a bit of difference & now I use it all the time.

Its a few years ago now, but I had had enough of the fast close passes on one ride, so I found a device by the side of the road and attached it to my bike and found it did the trick 🙂

The road I was on was quite narrow, so vehicles couldn’t really get past me if something was coming the other way, but it didn’t stop some of them trying!

Bare in mind, it only stuck out 6-8″ more than my handlebars, but that didn’t stop one A***hole still trying to get me with his wing mirror!

People really need to look at the tread patterns before they buy tyres and then slag them off for being rubbish for something that they are clearly not going to be any good at!
Just because its a fat tyre, it doesn’t magically get extra powers, a slick tyre is still a slick tyre 😉

The VEE8’s are perfect for me because I use them on the road as a fast rolling and hard wearing tyre, and while I can and sometimes do take them off road, they are clearly not going to be as good as proper off road tyres.

FYI, they are NOT ratted 30-50 psi! that is probably the 29er version, the fatty ones are 8-20spi, and they work very well at 20 on the road.

Pair of V1 fatty wheels (several years old), broken allen key axles when trying to remove them to replace the bearing.
Sent them back with Collect+ and in a week, I have a brand new pair of their latest fatty wheels 🙂

I use a small pocket projector for all my TV/Film viewings and it is perfect for me.
I only tried the projector after my 42″ tv broke, and I do not want to get another tv again.
I have a small room and the tv took up a huge space in the corner, and now instead of sitting watching tv during the day, I find myself doing more interesting/worthwhile things. I only usually put my projector on at night and my room looks bigger without a huge tv in the corner as I use a 100″ pull down screen.

I have a blind I pull down over my window if I want to watch anything during the day.

I think a room looks nicer without a huge black TV sitting there taking up lots of space.
