Ive been doing this (16/8) for the last month or so, and its not as hard as I thought. I’ve done several 4/5hr rides without any breakfast and felt fine.
I regularly don’t even feel hungry if Ive not eaten for 16+hrs!
I don’t have too much to lose, but I’ve dropped about 1.5kg so far.

Bike fits are still basing everything on the old days, and like manufacturers, are only there to make money without rocking the boat, people rarely like change.

Ball of the foot is a runners thing that has been dragged over to cycling, but with cycling you are able to put a hell of a lot more power through a pedal stroke/ball of the foot than any runner could ever do.

Ask any cyclist who does gym work if they do squats/leg press on the ball of their foot, you wont find anyone daft enough to do that, and squatting can be very similar to the power you’re putting down on a pedal stroke.

The ankle joint is the weakest part and is not needed at all for a pedal stroke, you don’t see a piston in an engine with an added “ankle”, yet the piston and a leg are both pretty much doing the same range of motion.

This question seems to pop up every few years, here’s a thread from a while ago – https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/mid-foot-cleat-position/

If you can, I would recommend doing/trying it. The “ball of your foot” position is something from the old days that nobody really seems to challenge, no matter how little sense it makes!

I just got one and when I talked to the gas guy, he said there is no difference in price you pay, not like the old days when you got charged more I think for prepay.

I like it, it means I can keep an eye on the cost and topping up, you can just top up whatever you want, no big surprise bills.

Ebay only, avoid Ali Express because once they have your money, they don’t care and you have no way of getting it back if you have an issue, speaking from experience.!

Use Ebay, pay with Paypal and you have 180 days for a dispute, with Ali, you only get 2 weeks (no Paypal) and then you’re on your own because after that, its purely down to the seller whether they want to help or not.

I got sick of the constant updates and wasted lots of time trying to find a way to stop it, seems you can’t, but I think I have managed to fix it for me.

I have a small lapbook which had 30gb space left when I bought it, every update ate into that (10gb & 60min updates sometimes) and by the time it got under 20gb, I decided to use my films on my 128gb usb stick and fill up the hard drive on my lapbook, and I now only leave around 600mb free, seems to have worked so far!

What pee’d me of the most, was the updates just taking over my lapbook no matter what I was doing, missed ebay bids a few times.

I was looking at a Power Pod for my fat bike, but there are just far to many variables, like tyre pressure, tyre compound etc…

I ask PP about  the issue with different tyre pressures, their response was to have different profiles set up depending on what psi you’re running!!

I have found this, and if it works, its what I will be going for – https://www.iqsquare.com

Just a wee twist to the tail, I read what trail_rat said and I decided to see if I could get the (Flogas) bottles cheaper.
Somehow, I can order Flogas bottles from Gasdeal for £23.99 delivered and who actually use Flogas to deliver them!
I am really not sure how that works, but at about £8 a bottle cheaper, it means I may be using them a bit longer, but will still be thinking about some sort of neater electric heater of some sort.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Possibly Exercise Induced Asthma.
I had to diagnose myself with it a few years ago because by the time I got an appointment with the doc, I was no longer cycling hard, so they could never find anything wrong.
Ive always been very fit, but took a few years out and quite regularly struggled to breathe fully when out cycling after that, it got so bad I sometimes had to stop and sit down for 10/15 mins!
I got an inhaler to try and it didn’t make everything 100% perfect, but it did help me breathe better when going hard.

I phoned NHS24 after a particularly bad cycle and they went through everything that could’ve been wrong with me, and couldn’t find anything.

200c is a bit high, I only put mine to 120c and just let the chain sit for about 10mins.
Apparently, its ready when there are no more air bubbles coming up.

Get a fryer with a basket, no need to drip wax or risk burning yourself.

I usually remove it from the basket when it is still slightly warm, that way you dont burn yourself and the excess wax on the outside can be wiped off as its not needed.

I get 400-700miles depending on conditions.

Always been happy with virgin internet.

I don’t understand why people are happy with companies that make them threaten to leave before giving them a better price!
FYI, Im with Virgin and it pisses me off everytime I’ve got to go through that crap, just give me a good deal in the first place.

You’re probably not as far back as me, but as others have said, you’ll still need to adjust saddle hight, fore/aft etc…
Ive been using my mid sole position for over 10 years now, here is an older longer thread and info/ideas about making your own shoes.

Go for a better second hand fat bike because if you go for the cheaper new ones, you’ll end up spending similar money just upgrading the rubbish parts which either break or (like tyres) aren’t any good for most riding.

There is a Surly Ice Cream Truck going for £1000 on the Facebook selling page, here[/url] or there are usually plenty to choose from on ebay.

One on the big boys (Specialized, maybe) did some testing on watts saved with leg shaving, they were amazed that it showed between 7-15w!

Edit: Yeah Specialized, also a good read.

Enjoyed the Swindon RC 10 last night, 22:10 for 4th. Would have dipped under 22 and come 2nd if I hadn’t had to stop dead at a roundabout for c. 10s! Not having much luck with roundabouts recently!

Pleased with the ride though, probably the best paced 10 I’ve ridden!

Got a photo of my position too which was useful. Doesn’t ‘look’ massively aero, but it seems to have served me well for the 3 races I’ve ridden it!

    http://tedparrottphotography.co.uk/wp-content/gallery/Swindon-Road-Club-Time-Trial-13-July-2017/Cycling-024.jpg

    Just a couple of things:
    1) Aero shoe covers (a must)
    2) Proper aero front wheel, always should be first before rear disc.
    3) It might just be the position/angle, but saddle looks a tiny bit to low?!
    4) As long as you’re not doing UCI races, point the bars up more. The praying mantis is the fastest position and it helps stop you sliding forward on the saddle.

When I put my chainset on, all I had to do was move the mech up and that was it, it work fine.

I used to run a road triple on my mtb, it was the only way to keep up on the chaingangs.
The big ring rubbed the chainstay slightly, but other than that, no issues.

chilled76, if you have the time and put the effort in, there is no reason you couldn’t be at or very close too, where you want be by the end of the year.

I went from just winning (a long time ago) the Scottish 3/4 development RR series, to mixing with and beating elites on the road the next season.

    I went from around 68/69kg (10% body fat) to 64/65kg @ 5’8″
I was doing around 15-25hrs on the bike with 2-3 gym sessions a week.

One thing I would recommend is, use a heavy mtb (buy a fat bike, thats what I use now) with fat draggy/flat tires for your commute and possibly some training sessions on the road, just that extra bit of resistance really helps build the strength.

Remember, its about quality, not quantity when it comes to workouts.

V1 needs an Allan key to remove end caps then freehub pulls off, and V2 just pulls off.
Crunchy noise is likely just a bit of dirt on the pawls.

They did wait for a fair bit, but there is only so long you can stop a whole race for.
They ALL should’ve stopped for a pee, that would have been better.

This surely has to be the winner so far, I think the aero bars really top it off –

I use cheap Chinese carbon on lots of my bikes and have never had a problem.
630mm 130g flat bars on both my fat bikes with nearly 10000 miles between them, I think they were about £13 each.
As with anything carbon, just give them a good test before you ride them.

I tried them once, but will stick with their sintered pads for my discs!
In their defence, they did replace the pads and my discs.

I got a cheap one like that, spent nearly an hour using it to help unblock my mates sink that had a bottle cap in it.
It was hard to do as it was a few feet away around a bend and had to bend a coat hanger at the correct angles to hook it, but it work and he is very happy.

Worth buying for that time when you may need it.
