Anyone got any experience of the R1 or R2 please? Looking at one for commuting, road rides and delamere forest trail type rides. Looked at the D2 but looks too close to my Cotic hardtail. Bit concerned about the cable brakes on the R1.
I am lucky enough to have both as I work in an opticians. The transitions are just as scratch resistant as prizm trail and great for a do it all lens all year round so I use them mostly on road rides and commuting. The prizm trail I tend to use in the summer though and find them better when on forest trails as transitions don’t react that quickly especially from dark to light so aren’t always in the correct tint for where you are. If that makes any sense! I have never found the prizm lens to be too light or dark though but I suppose its each to their own.
Seems a good price when the current model is £700 and similar spec and in my opinion not as good looking. I will try it for a while and upgrade the brakes if i feel they need it.
Found this oldish thread and wondered if anyone has any more feedback on the Ribble CGR? Want to start commuting the long way home and do some serious miles so not doable on my mtb. Looking at the boggo CGR at £899.
Think I will follow this thread, My other died a death! I have very similar requirements although my budget is very low as I suspect I may get bored and just use my mtb all the time!
I agree with The Hustler. I have worked in optics for nearly 30 years and nothing comes close to the quality of Maui Jim lenses and the frames have improved massively in recent years too. Cost more but you are getting what you are paying for.
I’m definitely not going to take him anywhere until he’s at least a year old. And it definitely won’t be trail centres. Think I’ll go for short local rides around the nature reserve, local woods and down the canal but at a steady pace (I’m good at that)
Some good suggestions there, thanks. Particularly like the look of the Vaults – some good offers around. In reply to Joebristol I want some higher end ones to basically see what a better pedal feels like. The Nukeproofs I have now grip well but with being plastic they don’t feel solid enough.
I have face id on my google pixel xl (soon to be upgraded to pixel xl 2 – watch the classifieds!). It works perfectly to the point where I forget its there. The phone activates as soon as I pick it up. No delay at all.
We did an 11 mile route the other day at about 9mph average and her Strava said she had burned 205 calories while mine said 650. I know there’s differences between profiles that will affect this but not by that much. Hence why she wants something a bit more accurate.
I’ve had a Spectral and now have an Aeris 120. Much prefer the Aeris. Joemmo said it best, spec better on the Bird. Also you don’t get offers like Ben’s from any other manufacturer. (Bar maybe Cotic) They are outstanding and the piece of mind it gives you as an owner is priceless.
Xtractive do cost a little more especially if they are going into a frame with some wrap on it as they would need to be specially surfaced from scratch. Did you go for xtractive so they would react in the car? If not I would definitely go for standard transitions as they are much cheaper and perform better.
Contact lenses are the best option no doubt about it. Its just people think they will be uncomfortable and/or don’t like the thought of putting them on their eye. But lenses are so much more comfortable nowadays, if you get decent lenses from a good independent optician they aren’t expensive and you can barely tell you have them in. If people would man up a bit they would be able choose from any riding glasses they liked!
They may still fog up especially the maxx21 but otherwise look ok. The only anti fog lenses I have seen that are of good quality are Adidas and they aren’t cheap.
Any thoughts?
Im 6ft 2 and went for the Large. Fits perfectly. I have changed a the bars and stem as i wasnt keen on the 35mm bars so went for some more traditional 31.6 as i prefer a bit of flex. Also a bit wider (800mm) made it feel easier to control on the downs. I went for the gx spec with upgraded pikes (for £115 extra seemed well worth it) but others love the? yari’s too. I like having all Sram too, not sure why. Some have said its more reliable than shimano. I would have definitely gone for the new eagle 1×12 if i could have. Great upgrade for the price. Boost wheels and forks too as i thought it would maybe be more futureproof. Heres mine…
I considered all these last week but ended up going for the Nukeproof Warhead combo. Very happy. Feel like there is a bit of give in these which I like, the previous Raceface bars I had were way too stiff. These have a much nicer finish to them too.
Looks a good saddle and its £30 cheaper than CRC so bit of a bargain. Think it looks better than the standard Gobi and it has a ‘central relief channel’ which sounds like it can only be a good thing.
Cheers monksie,no I’m not the only one fundraising. Tylers family and friends and a lot of people around the town are doing all sorts of things. Ill consider your ideas too.
Took my new 120 round llandegla today. Really nice ride. The 145 looks a bit much for me. Do mostly xc riding and commute on it so this seemed better. Went for a few upgrades including pikes with boost, reverb, guide brakes and turbine bars and stem. Very happy with it and the service from Bird was excellent.
