Been comparing weights just on the halfords tubes and they vary between 75g and over 200g. If I save 120g per tube that’s a 1/2 lb saving.

how about grease? my local lbs is useless and doesnt stock carbon paste (or inner tubes, chains, tools….) i have a good DIY shop close by and was hoping there was an alternative that’ll do the job.

I’ve just read that maxxis are the best. I want light tyres to shave a but of weight off my c456 but I’m open to other brands if they are highly recommended or on offer at an amazing price somewhere!

I’m also considering this conversion matlock. i agree that £50 seems a bit steep for stans kit. i also think ill need new tyres so im trying to keep the price to a minimum.

Need advice mostly on setup, what’s all this dropout malarkey? Will any wheels fit with a ss conversions kit?

I’m 6 ft 2 but my budget won’t stretch to that I’m afraid. I’m not too bothered about condition as long as its structurally ok. Cheers anyway though bregante.

I manage an opticians and we regularly do wrap around prescription glasses. It’s a very complex thing making a pair of these specs. The wrap/curvature of the lens means that they have to be made to a different prescription to your actual prescription as light passes through the lens and is distorted differently to a flat everyday lens. (If that makes any sense). Decent opticians would alter the rx and allow for this but we see a lot of poorly made lenses that the wearer would never adapt to no matter how long they persisted. I’d try them for a couple of weeks – a couple if hours a day – just around the house, watching tv etc and if they don’t settle down take them back.

Looking forward to Minton batch, it does get great reviews. The whole setup does look too good to be true to be honest. Everything you need for a great weekend and its only costing us £22.50 each for 2 nights!

So sorry to drag up a classic old thread but just been googling for a review on the smorgasbord and came across this.

The tyre is now down to a frankly silly £12.49! I am in the verge of ordering but I’m no expert so can someone tell me is it worth paying a fiver extra (per pair) for the trail extreme? Is it softer therefore will it not last as long? I’m looking at using them as a winter xc and commuting tyre.

Cheers for the replies. I’ll keep an eye on eBay. That Scott looks great Matt but a bit big for my lad, cheers anyway.

I’ve got some you can have for the price of postage mate. Planet X all weather fleece lined. Really nice but I ordered large and they are more like a medium. Let me know if you want them.

I’m looking at buying one of these or a vauxhall zafira. not sure which yet but i’m edging towards the vauxhall. just seems to get better reviews and you get 7 seats. there’s loads about too.

we have to sell our Seat Altea which has got a cracking sized boot. easily get 3 bikes in with the seats folded flat. Its for sale if you’re interested!

I manage an opticians and I’ve seen loads of different ranges but I think the best is the new Nike vision range. Its a multi-sport range of frames but they are great for biking and running as the prescription is made by a decent optical lens company so they do offset prisms to compensate the wrap of the frame. Also think they are cheaper than oakley. Can do you a good deal if you want! Uvex is pretty good too.

my main advice would be head for newcastle not sunderland.

ive got 120s on my carbon 456. works superbly for xc and occasional more serious stuff. theyve got one in the clearance corner at onone for £350 which is silly money.

failing that carbon whippets are a good price at the moment.

Doesn’t seem to be any play in the spokes, they seem really tight. I’ve took it to a couple of lbs a few times and they can’t find the cause. The last one suggested a different thicker skewer but I don’t know which size.

It’s on the wheel I’m sure as I’ve tried it on another bike with rigid forks and the plays still there. Driving me mad!

I’m 6 foot 2 and I am struggling a little with the reach. Got a 20″ frame with 70mm stem that I’m trying to replace with a 50mm or shorter.

There seems to be a lot of carbon456 owners on here. Has anyone ever started a thread devoted to them where you can ogle each others bikes and exchange advice? Cube owners have a thread going, not sure if its a singletrack thread, so why not us?

Can’t try them as I’ve not bought them yet! Currently got 710 and they feel a fraction wide but just wanted to know what everyone else uses.

Think the reason they are so cheap is because they are a size noone wants!

I know a bloke selling a good as new Boardman team ht that is pretty much as food as new. It’s currently a rigid with carbon rigids up front but you could easily change that. He’s looking for £600 minimum though.

That’s exactly what I’ve just done jambon. Picking up my completed c456 this afternoon from my lbs. Can’t wait! Sold my Boardman team Fs, which I loved but just fancied a better specced hardtail, to fund it. Unbelievable value.

There’s a 2nd hand but good looking Boardman team Fs on eBay at the moment or £650 or best offer. They are great bikes for the money.

its just the size of the grub screw that worries me on the xcr. its tiny. does it keep secure on an off road ride?

I know its a little way away from Grizedale but Cranford House in keswick is excellent. Its cheap, friendly, clean and they do a great fry up. It also welcomes cyclists. Very close to Whinlatter too.
