I’ve done as you suggest and used a Guide lever with the older style Code calipers without any issues.
The older style Code levers have reach and bite point adjust and are amazing brakes. I sold a pair around a year ago and wish I’d kept them. I haven’t seen many places selling the old style Code but if you find any they are worth snapping up if you find a good deal.
They use the same pads as the current Codes so no issues with being future-proof.
Actually I’d think that “a f*cking police officer” probably has a lot better idea about homelessness than most Tom, Dicks and Harry’s on here seeing as though they have to deal with them, and all the every day underlying issues that come with it.
A good friend of mine is a Police officer in Leeds on a small team trying to solve homelessness in the city and all the issues surrounding it. She told me that around 90% of them all have a house and are on benefits etc. They can earn up to £200 a day from begging which is spent on alcohol/drugs. They even get groups of beggars travelling by train every weekend from smaller towns that come into the city on a weekend just to beg then travel back on a Sunday night.
She says they work to try offer them support with addiction problems but virtually every single one refuses to engage with services available to them.
It seems its more of a lifestyle choice to fund their addictions rather than a case of them not having homes to go to.
I had a 2017 model and loved it. Used it for everything from long days in the saddle to uplift at Stinkydog. Its no boutique Yeti or Santa Cruz but its also half the price so bit of a no brainer IMHO.
I don’t know how a “slap on the ass” could be considered anything other than a sexual assault.
If he is successfully prosecuted he will be on the “register”.
I think they are all off on holiday for the week. I’ve ordered a DH bike from Propain and they emailed me to say it was built and just about ready for dispatch…then nothing.
When I emailed them last week an automated message came up saying they were closed and away on holiday. :(
6’1 and a half(I’m told the half inches are important) and on an XL.
Feels long and roomy but not like I’m riding a gate. Ridden everything from long XC days to double black uplift days.
I’ve got the VRX 29er and love it, huge grins all round and amazing value for money. I really can’t fault it.
I’m fairly sure the Vitus EWS team won’t be the only team in the pits with spare frames in their van either.
It climbs really well without much bob. The monarch and pikes both have lockout but not felt the need to use them so far.
Im on an XL with Schwalbe super gravity tyres on front and rear so it’s no lightweight XC machine but it more than makes up for it on the downs
After riding my mates Vitus 29 VRX I ended up buying one for myself. I’ve had it for 2 weeks and it’s quite easily the best bike I’ve owned. Got an extra 10% off with BC discount on CRC so worked out to just under £2.2k.
This is the first 29er I’ve owned and it’s a monster truck and just rolls over things I’d normally slow down and pick my line around. I looked at a Jeffsy but was put off by the short reach/long seat tube and the wait for stock.
I’d say Trek will be revealing their 29 race bike any time soon. The bigger wheels makes sense for taller riders and I think Gee is around 6ft so it wouldn’t surprise me if he is on one this season.
There are a lot of haters but it’s gonna make for an interesting race season and all the research and technology always trickles down to us mortals so it’s a good thing in my opinion
Hey Grum,
Not sure where in the UK you are but I’m a shift worker so get free time during the day midweek a lot and normally get out for a pedal whenever I can. I’m in Leeds.
If you’re local and want a spin and a natter let me know. I can’t say I have any advice or answers but its good to get out the house and take your mind off things. Rooting for you matey
+1 for the same method as Blobonastick, £10 pressure sprayer from Screwfix. I superglued the pressure release valve and haven’t had any problems inflating and seating any tyres so far.
Im not too sure about clearance but I would stay away from using the ‘Bike `Park” version on the front. Its a different compound and not very grippy. Ive used the “Super Gravity” version on the front and its easily my favourite tyre.
I had this problem with my girlfriends forks. If you loosen off the non qr end far enough you can push it in and the axle closes in on itself.
When you re-install the wheel you just have to tighten it up again so the axle can close with enough force to keep the wheel in place.
I think there was a video on YouTube that helped me.
I found a deal on some Code calipers and matched them with some Guide levers and can honestly say they are the best brakes I’ve ever owned. Lovely modulation and buckets loads of stopping power.
I stayed in Pila while on a Euro road trip a few years ago. There are a few ski hotels at the top and one campsite about half way down the hill. We slept under the stars and washed bikes/kit/ourselves using a small tap in a car park! Not ideal :)
If I went again I think I’d stay in Aosta and just get the lift to Pila every day. It takes about 15/20 minutes to get to the top. There is a huge supermarket in Aosta near to the lift station so I’m sure you could park there.
The riding is unreal tho so well worth a visit.
I’ve flown on EasyJet from Manchester the last 3 times. They seem to release their summer schedule around Jan/Feb.
It’s normally been around £200-300 for a return with bike bag.
I really hope Brendog isn’t reading this thread and decides to change his training plan for next year because I sure as hell don’t want to see him sat on a turbo-trainer or out on his road bike in the next video he makes. Now that really would be wasting his talent.
Another +1 for the 40yr old BMX’er. I don’t plan on doing any tricks but the skills you learn from pumping/jumping/being smooth carry over your MTB,and it’s a HOOT!
Always loads of campers in the Carrefour car park in Morzine. I went to Pila and Verbier last year. Parked in the main car park in Pila. They allow vans but not tents.
Parked my van just past the main lift in Verbier. There is a dirt road that leads up the hill from the lifts (go past the snazzy hotel with Ferraris outside) and there is plenty of flat ground and space there. Good times!
If you can both comfortably ride Antur and Revs then you’ll be more than comfortable on the vast majority of DH runs in and around Morzine. Antur and Revs are quite a bit steeper and rougher in places then some of the trails in Morzine in my opinion.
Les Gets have quite a lot of trails with braking bumps but you can use the lifts to get over to Lindarets, Morgins and Switzerland and you’ll be smiling for days. The trails are all well marked so no reason to have your nose in a map all day. Day trips to Verbier and Pila are around 30-40 euros a day and are well worth the trip.
I was quite nervous about my 1st trip there but it’s really not all crazy 20 foot gap jumps or drops like you might see in the videos.
I’m off there at the same time so happy to show you around if you’re interested. Email in my profile
Im 6’1 and went for an XL Alu model with a slightly shorter stem 35mm than the standard 50mm stem that came fitted. It feels perfect.
Id definitely say you should be on a Large.
