I’ve always had to use a small washer inbetween the brake mount and the brake caliper with 203mm rotors with Shimano brakes. The washer just leaves enough space to stop it rubbing the caliper
I can’t seem to post a link but have a look on Amazon for a Tacx E-thru axle. Its 12mm. I got one for my boost frame but sent it back as it was too wide to fit in-between the slots for the axle on my turbo. You might have to measure how wide an axle it can take
Looks like Bird have a new bike/frame dropping tomorrow. Long travel 29er, bigger brother to the AM9 so maybe 160/170mm enduro called the Aeris 9. I spotted it on Street Pigeon’s Instagram, looks very nice!
I like Warner but Elliot knows his stuff. He is a regular on the Downtime Podcast and is very knowledgeable. He raced at World Cup level on the Pivot and Giant Factory teams not that long ago so is a lot more credible and current than Warner is.
Samoens is definitely worth the trip over from Morzine/Les Gets. It’s way less busy and the tracks are a lot more natural and less braking bumps. I think there is a way over to Samoens from the very top of the Les Gets bike park lifts but I didn’t find it. There is a shuttle company with a trailer that does day trips to Samoens
Any +40mm adaptor should fit. I’m not sure what Hope model adaptor is post mount +40 though.
You have turn the adaptor so it pushes the caliper forward and upwards to clear the limited seat stay clearance (hope this makes sense!)
As others have said, it’s definitely worth dropping the lowers and reapplying grease and oil, even if you’re not swapping out the air shaft. I took my lowers off and there wasn’t any oil whatsoever.
Mine arrived this morning (sorry not rubbing it in!)
I had an email on Wednesday saying it was coming yesterday. When it didn’t arrive I wrote off the idea. I got another email yesterday saying it was being delivered this morning and happy days.
Great PSA OP, all the best to those still waiting.
If you think it’s tense on here go read the forum posts on HDUK about this. Last time I looked it’s was 24 pages long and people are falling out left right and centre :)
(Okay maybe I have way too much time on my hands)
What does gaining your pilots license have to do with crashing your bike into a SUV?
If you crashed your plane, and survived you’d also have to take a breath test, and if you refused you’d be arrested. I don’t see what the big deal is.
Ahh okay, I’ve just had a look on the On One website and see what you mean about the clearance. Have you tried flipping the 203 adaptor around the wrong way and using a 180mm rotor in there. With the adaptor flipped round it should give you the clearance for the caliper to fit with the washers. (Pushed forward and upwards to clear the seat stay, if that makes sense?)
Guide RE brakes use the old Avid Code style caliper, so you need a set of Avid conical washers inbetween the brake mount and the caliper. The caliper won’t fit directly into the mount without them. I’ll try find a link to the washers but if you Google avid conical washer you should find them. I think they will only be about a fiver with some bolts included.
I’ve had a Praxis BB on my hardtail, still going strong and it’s seen a lot of slop. I think they are about £25 from Merlin Cycles. I think it’s a slightly different BB tool though but don’t quote me on that one
I might be throwing a spanned in the works but I have my brakes levers not far off horizontal to the ground. I find it helps me angle my hands upwards and absorbs the forces into my wrists more and not solely into my hands.
I’ve been to both. The bike park in Verbier itself is pretty good with options for big drops etc. I’ve heard the singletrack trails are amazing but I didn’t stay long enough to sample them. I think hiring a guide to show you around might be the best option.
Morzine is really good but some of the tracks are quite blown out but plenty of them.
If I had free accommodation I’d spend it all in Verbier but that’s just my 2p.
I’m a similar height to you and have 800mm wide bars with a 35mm rise. Its all personal preference but if you get the 800 bars and they feel to wide just chop them down. Same goes for the 35mm rise, if they feel too high you can just pop a few of the spacers above the stem until you feel out your preferred position.
I have an Aether 7 and an AM9, both amazing bikes, Im sure the Aether 9A will be amazing too.
Sorry was typing that on the train 🤦♂️
Yeah let all the air out of the fork
Turn it upside down.
Undo the bolts as if you were taking the lowers off.
Push down on the lowers to try release any trapped air inside lowers themselves(if that makes any sense)
The MBR video on lower leg service on YouTube recommends this, might be a lot easier than my terrible explanation!
Sounds like it might be air trapped in the lowers. When I put my lowers back on I find I have to compress them down quite firmly before I cinch up the bolts to let all the air that trapped in there.
Maybe try turning the bike upside down, undoing the bolts for the lowers(but not actually removing them) and see compressing them down to see if there is any air in there.
I think the Hello Dave frames can take a 200mm rotor anyway. Because of the way the 200mm adaptor pushes the caliper forward and upwards it clears the seatstay part of the frame. The 180mm adaptor just pushes the caliper upwards(into the seatstay). It may be worth dropping On-One an email to confirm but I saw a post on Instagram from a Hello Dave owner who had done this.
I mulleted my Aether 7 and I’m loving it. I lowered the forks to 120mm travel to keep the axle to crown length similar to the intended geometry of the 27.5 but have that extra grip and rollover from the 29 up front. Bird make great bikes, I’d imagine the Aether 9 is no different.
Aim for around 30%, take a shock pump, go razz your bike in the woods, adjust, razz some more, adjust, razz…you get the idea. Agonising over a click or two isnt going to turn you from Barry Backpack into Danny Hart.
Go razz it 🤘
I had a decent tensioner from Superstar Components. Not sure if they still sell them anymore. I’ll have a dig around in the spares box after work tomorrow and if I’ve still got it I’ll PM you. DMR used to do a Singlespeed kit with cog but that was years ago. I’ve seen people using bodged derealliers with them locked out with a really short length of gear cable.
I know a few paramedics and they have had protocols for dealing with calls change nearly every day over the last week and are burnt out(even more burnt out than normal if that’s even possible!)
I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone in the NHS right now, it really doesnt get said enough.
I ordered a DH bike from then a couple of years ago. Their website advertised the bike with Code RSC brakes. The bike came with Code R brakes so I dropped them an email to query the brakes. They replied quickly and said it was a fault with their website but they honoured the advert and sent me a shiny set of RSC’s in the post about 3 days later. I was impressed with their service from start to finish and the bike itself was awesome.
Nukeproof Scout is worth adding to that list. I’ve got an XL 275 Sport and it’s an absolute blast. 475 reach, 2.6 plus tyres, decent spec for the price
If you come off the Chamole lift from the bike park and ride down to the Couis lift it’ll take you to the top of the Deserpa trail. Ride it down to restaurant, then peel lift along a fire road to farm. Go past the farm and the T26 trail starts. It’s all single track,no climbing, nothing too steep or technical and zero breaking bumps :)
Totally agree with the above.
If you have trailforks there is a trail called T26, this runs on into 21B which runs all the way down into Aosta town. It’s much less beaten up than the Freeride line in the bike park. I rode it 3 weeks ago and it’s hands down the best trail I’ve ever ridden
