So sorting out workload balance, running is good. I live in the countryside and enjoy the city in the week. I have a wife and bijou potato. We face time for 10-15mins at tea time each night so he gets daddy time.

I used to take a road bike in the back of my Alfa. On this last role I’ve been restoring a classic car in the evening at a workshop near where I work. I’m away a few nights a week, but life it what you make it.

I’ve been consulting for years ( three seperate consultancies ) over the years from the very small niche to the tier 1 global players.
I like it, everyday is a different challenge, you and only you are responsible for work life balance. Think before you accept gig in a nightmare location. You’ll probably work with really good people, customers vary, really strong consultants can work in any team and get stuff done.

Yes you may meet resistance but your there to get a project done. If the client could do it themselves they would have done, so you need to add value and make it happen.

So, currently I’m a contractor. Working in similar discipline as a solution architect.

Rates wise, if you were on say 75k as a permie then contract rates of 75per hour is about right, similarly 45k would be about 45 per hour. 25k 25 ph.
Don’t spend it when it comes in you’ll need a war chest.

Firstly time off. Get yourself straight, you could do the job before so no reason to assume you can’t continue to do it. However other options may be better.you’ll find them up some steep climbs somewhere I suspect.

You need time to let yourself unwind and make a plan. Can’t be hurried, probably best to enjoy it then :-)

I’d try wire wool however a toddler will probably make a better job of it. I can rent you one for a reasonable sum.

Surely you know the address of your neighbour? Try adding 1 to your house number and look up on google maps.

I’d be keen to keep them fancying backwards as long as possible. We kept lesbijoupotato in his rear facing seat until practically 18 mths ( once his head got above the top of the cushion we moved him on. Went for a cybex Juno forward facing one.

They need ( in my opinion! To be kept rear facing as long as possible until they are much stronger)

    Les G potato.

I don’t think its the pad material being transferred more that the pad surface gets a much closer working tolerance to the face of the disc (ridges and lumpy) then works better. I reckon on 10 really hard stops to bed a set it in.

I just treated my 2009 Scott Spark to a new transmission and full suspension service. It still seems to be as good as it was 5 years ago.

I had worried about the trails getting approximately 4% larger necessitating new sized wheels but it appears that didn’t happen in the lakes so i’m fine for another year or two until the hills get their next upgrade.

Shirley stans on crests would be a better bet for an actual upgrade? Mine have lasted fine over a year of abuse in the lakes with 100kg of me battering down on them.

Those leases sound pricey. I run a 6 yr old merc clk (had it for 2 yrs) on about 2.5k per annum. Prior to that a it was a 5yr old Porsche Boxster S for about 3.5k, buying and selling in one year always hurts!

Seriously 4.2k for a Mondeo or similar is just madness.

The recent changes to the trails making them 4% gnarlier hasn’t affected the roads thus they do not need wheels 4% bigger. Really you must pay more attention.

MSCE always nice to see, I’d go 2012 no need to force yourself to update sooner than necessary. However attitude to work, smarts and a willingness to get stuck in is what I look for in my infrastructure team…

    Good luck !
