Happy to confirm I don’t work in IT or own a Gaggia. :-)

Guilty as charged here: 09 Five and an A4 Estate…and I ride in the Surrey Hills. Sorry.

Stocking presents first thing in bed with the kids, then one or two proper presents in the morning after breakfast, (smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, champagne – naturally) then majority of presents formally opened after lunch at about 4pm round a roaring fire and through a port tinted haze.

These weren’t kids. I counted 4 blokes in their 20s-30s who stopped in their tracks as they heard me approach. One of them said something to the others, and they all turned their attention to me. That’s what made me feel uneasy.

    I’m not worrying.

Bravado is all well and good until you get the sh*t kicked out of you.

    …or you get rogered senseless.

As above, 6’0″ on an 18″ with a 70mm stem. This is with 140mm Fox Vanilla’s. Previously had 130mm RS so felt a bit steeper and I used a 90mm stem. That was great too.

18″ for you too, I’d say.

I always think when on the M25 that a massive amount of congestion could be solved simply by educating people about the knock on effect of sitting in the middle and outside lanes when not overtaking. So much of the time you see these lanes full as everyone tries to get past, while the inner lanes are almost empty. Certain areas that have already been widened just move the problem across a lane or two to the right and leave more inside lanes empty.

I think we just need a good old Govt. information film. Or higher actual policing in terms of motorway patrols rather than cameras or the ‘faux-police ‘ in the black and yellow chequered Discoverys. Or legalise undertaking….

Thought about it for the first time this morning. I put on a jumper instead. Job done.

    Queen with Freddie Mercury
Nick Drake – (though probably not that exciting live by all accounts….)
    John Lennon

EDIT – Beat me to it, Doug D!

Santa Cruzs, Yetis, Orange Fives, Lapierres – and a lot of Range Rovers.

Personally my bike of choice would be anything from a long travel hardtail to a 5″FS bike, but as above, there is something for everyone, though I do sometimes wonder where all the guys in full facers on burly FSers are going.

Barry Knows Best has become a bit of a motorway since the recent trail work, very fast now and lots of areas where its been straightlined by idiots – but there are plenty more less popular trails that are as good if not better.

1: A much needed holiday. 2: Nursery care for our 3 yr old to give my wife a bit of a break. 3: Mortgage.

Oh, and coke and whores obviously, just so that doesn’t sound too sensible.

I had the same dilemma. If the Spesh Prevail fitted well but was too ‘mushroomy’, have you tried the Propero II? A whole lot cheaper, same fit and almost the same looks, but not as wide as it doesn’t have the same side vents.

Subsidence the only real issue, but as said above, there are degrees of severity. If you’ve got the money to pay others to do the bits you can’t do yourself, then it’s all good.

As above, what’s your budget for repairs? How much can you do, or will you be paying trades? £40-50k?

Roof first to get it watertight. Then rewiring – which pretty much wrecks the place, so do that next. Then plastering and redecoration to follow, bathroom/s, kitchen. etc etc

It’s a lovely house – oh to find something at that price down here!

Why Halfords? When I did the C2W scheme earlier this year, my voucher was for any shop who was happy to be part of the scheme.

Can’t comment from a technical viewpoint, but I think it looks great. I love both Nicolais and Leftys ( Lefties?).

There are plenty around that hate both, though. Then again, I think the Orange Five is also a great looking bike.

Hmm, a Five with a Lefty perhaps?…I’d be lynched by the STW hate mob.

Bromptons – Perhaps the most useful and superbly designed thing I own…and has already paid for itself in saved tube fares.

+1 on the Dyson Airblade too.

Odd, that advert doesn’t scream stolen like many that you see do…

Slight hijack, but I’d love to know how many of you are using these as your only (mountain) bike – or have you also got a fully geared 26″ full suss in the shed? There are some very temptingly beautiful bikes in this thread, but sadly I fear it would have to be an ‘instead of’ rather than ‘also’ for me to justify one…

I ride most of the time with a mate who has a 2009 or 2010 Attack Trail – actually a very nice bike, but somehow Marin just became unfashionable I suppose after it’s 90’s heyday – I’m not sure why. I fear it was the Halfords factor that killed GT’s credibility though.

dannyh – that’s the kind of comment when I wish there was a ‘like’ button on STW.

I went through three bikes in quick succession around this time, so either a Raleigh Technium Chill, the same as Singlespeedstu’s, or a 1991 Saracen Tufftrax comp that got nicked on my paper round, or the replacement; a 1990 pre elevated chain stay Alpinestars Al-Mega (had the black paint job XT frame but DX groupset)..bought secondhand from someone in Wales through the MBUK classifieds. I pimped it up with the obligatory white Onza Porcupines, USE seat post etc. and lots of anodised purple bits…I also remember desperately wanting to fit a Syncros 150mm/0 degree stem….

It was like this (Not mine:)

Playing it is ok, but watching it is massively dull. I really have never understood why it drives people so mental. At least with Rugby there are interesting variations in play and tactics even if no one is actually scoring. Add in the chance of a good punch up and it all gets even better.

A superb album, though it’s been a constant fave of mine since about ’89. I can remember buying it after school in ‘Our Price Records’

I think moving to the countryside or a nice provincial town would be nice.

Moving to another city in the UK would just feel like a lame version of London.

What will he do with his life now? He seemingly spent every minute of every day on here, trying to convert the whole of STW to his leftie ways. I’m sure plenty agreed with him but, wow, he had one enormous chip on his shoulder.

Don’t think about what to say. Just go. As soon as you possibly can.

I’m stating the obvious perhaps, but you will regret it far more if you put it off and miss them altogether. I speak from experience.

Surrey…£67.50 per day, per child…hence now baby no. 2 is here my wife won’t be going back to work. We previously had our eldest in two days a week only and it was like having a second mortgage. Thankfully the eldest has just turned three, so she’ll just do the free 15 hours a week ( 3hrs every afternoon) at the nursery of the local primary school and that’s it.

Can’t wait till they are both at school and we have some disposable income once again!

Whining northerners, blah blah blah. Change the record please. God help us if Labour ever get back in.

Having said that, whilst I think Boris is awesome, I’d be a bit scared if he actually became PM.
