or you could give a brief explanation of what strava is.

Don’t do this. Jokes that have to be explained aren’t funny.

Andy and XXX have recently moved into their first home together. Now as we all know, moving into your first house and furnishing it comes at great expense and although Andy had his own bachelor pad before, a TV, a chair and a huge selection of DVDs isn’t furniture.

Would reference to his huge pron stash here be inappropriate?

I think maybe as theres going to be loads of bloody kids there

    I’d just say:

” …furnishing it comes at great expense and although Andy had his own bachelor pad before, a TV, a chair and a huge selection of DVDs isn’t furniture. PAUSE …at least, not the type of DVDs Andy had…”

Leave the rest to everyone’s imagination, that makes it funnier.

When they found out at the scan that they were having a boy, my best friend’s wife went around telling everyone how annoyed she was because she’d been expecting /wanting a girl. Bizarre behaviour! -If you feel like that, keep it to yourself FFS …but it sums her up really.

I’ve never really understood why one would want to know – the surprise is all part of the fun isn’t it? It’s not like you can change it anyway.

Luckily, my wife and I agreed on this with both our two. We got one of each in the end, which was great, but I don’t think I really would have cared either way.

Finding out just seems like opening your Christmas presents in October.

Would I lay the timbers so they are resting or supported by the existing floor, or would I use hangers from the wall? If hangers, is there a height they would need to be off the floor and would this need ventilation? ( which could be a problem)

Little bump…can anyone answer those two questions for me?

Our kids mostly wear clothes that other peoples’ kids have grown out of. Our car is ten years old, and was six years old when we bought it. We live on the ‘wrong’ side of town. We’ve not bee on a foreign holiday for almost ten years. All my bikes are ‘cheap’ and I am shocked when I see the prices in Singletrack magazine. We have holes in the dining room carpet.

I think you might be me too!…but it’s mainly because our mortgage is ‘not far below four figures’ each month either.

Apart from the £180K mortgage i’m debt free….. but have no money to spare…. and have sacrifced a lot of my toys, bikes and cars doing so….. hmmmmm SC bronson on 0% finance….maybe… or just carry on with not a lot other than a 3bed end of terrace in surrey…

    Are you me?

    LenHankie

About £180k on the mortgage. Otherwise nothing else, I tend to save up for things, run an old car etc.

Amazed how many people are mortgage free – Are you just very old, or have you inherited, or do you just live somewhere very cheap? I would be so well off if I wasn’t paying that!

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. The floating floor would be simple, but clearly tiling then becomes an issue and I can’t think how else I’d want to cover a bathroom floor. So that leaves the joist/timbers option as suggested by blazing saddles and others.

Questions: Would the dpc be the first thing to go down onto the existing floor, then the joists/timbers on top? Would I lay the timbers so they are resting or supported by the existing floor, or would I use hangers from the wall? If hangers, is there a height they would need to be off the floor and would this need ventilation? ( which could be a problem). I’m also not sure about laying a 50mm screed – is that fairly simple to do?

Thanks for everyone’s help so far.

Nicely done. The build looks lovely and the photos are superb. Is there a full spec of the build on there, or have I missed it?

Can recommend the Lezyne ones, been using them front and year since about Sept last year for the daily commute. The tiny rear one fits into the red vent in my Giro helmet quite nicely.

    EDIT: Sorry, I mean these

Oddly, I probably wouldn’t move elsewhere in the UK (and I doubt anywhere else would have much in my line of work available) but would move my family to Paris at the drop of a hat.

Piss is actually supposed to be quite good for you, and its served warm so you won’t need to worry about keeping it cold.

Yeah, ‘cos when I’m slogging it up a climb in 30 degree heat, I often wish I could reach for the refreshing properties of a bottle of warm piss… :?

I have tried to work out if its a status thing or not
Been there – it’s the family in the 25 year old Mercedes 300E estate that have the real status and wealth. There is always one in every private school car park.

New money will arrive in new cars – normally 4x4s. Middle class professionals in middle cars that show the sacrifice they are making for their kids education. Old money in old cars as they don’t see the need to update the one they bought as there is nothing wrong with it.

    Yep, exactly this.

I think if you are a real car lover you get just as much, if not more, enjoyment from old and perhaps relatively cheap cars as from new ones. I count myself as a car lover, I enjoy cleaning and tinkering with them just as much as driving them and can get pleasure from driving even the most basic cars.

It’s very rare for me ever to have owned anything newer than 10yrs old and the one time I did get a brand new company car (A3 TDI) I ended up giving it back after 6 months and taking the cash instead, as it bored me to tears. My wife finds it a little odd that I actually quite like cars to go wrong occasionally as I can have the fun of fixing them.

If I could justify spending a large sum ( Say £15k plus) on a car then it would definitely be a classic. A) It’s more likely to keep it’s value or even appreciate and B) I can’t say I’m ever really impressed by someone driving a new flash car as all it says is ‘I have disposable income/ a company car allowance’ rather than ‘I have great taste and really understand and appreciate cars.’

Just got back from there a few weeks ago:

If you’re anywhere near the North Coast…

Watergate Bay, between Newquay and Padstow for a huge and quiet, yet stunning, sandy beach. There’s a Jamie Oliver ’15’ restaurant there too, if that’s your thing.

Also, Retallack Resort near Padstow has a ‘Flowrider’ static wave – so you can practice several days worth of surfing in the space of an hour, no waiting to catch that perfect wave. Great fun for kids too (over 5).
    .
Good accommodation in purpose built lodges in lovely scenery there too.

Great place and stunning scenery. There’s a good campsite at Lac de St Croix nearby. The lake is man made and pretty epic as well, but it’s at least 13yrs since I was there last.

MrsHankie and I went to see it as we were offered babysitting at short notice and hadn’t been to the cinema in ages. It was the only thing on at that time and I was sceptical as I’d heard bad reviews.

…but we both loved it! I found the first 30 mins pretty terrifying and it managed to have just the right blend of suspense and gore. The panic spreading through crowds and fear of protecting one’s family was really well captured and a lot was suggested rather than shown, which is stronger in my opinion.

All in all, a more epic 28 Days Later, nicely done I thought. No cheesy love interest/sidekick or huge explosions which most Hollywood blockbusters resort to, which was refreshing.

I haven’t read the book so marking the film on it’s own merits. 8/10.

I’m glad I don’t have your brother. How embarrasing having a brother or friend with a seriously nice car. Can you imagine your partner silently thinking ‘why doesn’t he have one too’?

I know that feeling only too well. My brother’s owned a Series 1 E-Type 3.8 FHC for the last 20 years…

Heres what’ll happen- Audi fit everything then they’ll hand you their free ‘critical safety report’ which shows your discs are 70% worn.
they have already told me that the front tyres are 2mm off the legal limit.

So they have 3.6mm of tread left. New tyres have 7mm, so they are less than 50% worn!

Surbiton. Lived there for six years, and would happily move back if possible.

If you’re driving to Epsom for work then it’s barely any distance at all. Surbiton also has the A3 on your doorstep and a very fast and regular train service ( Waterloo in 17mins or so).

Although you said cycling isn’t important for the sake of this, you are also closer to the Surrey Hills or Epsom Downs.

+1 for Espares. Easy to find the right part and there’s a full tutorial on their site. I found the job simple to do, even with no prior knowledge.
