The Five climbs very well IMHO. Unless you are climbing on road, I would have thought one would get on better using the appropriate propedal setting than a full lockout, especially over rooty sections etc.

FWIW I only ever use the weakest PP setting for climbing and have it turned off altogether for descending. But I’m only 73kgs if that make a difference.

    EDIT: (2009 Five with RP23)

Hmm, just bought about £600 worth of taps, shower and bath from them this week. Saved about £300 in their ‘sale’. It won’t be delivered for a while, so I can’t comment on quality yet, but all the online reviews for the individual items seemed very positive. We’ll see!

A 1983 Mercedes 280ce for £450. It looked cool in the photos, but you can imagine the state of it. Sold a week later for £300….

Quite relaxed, thanks. Three stops on the Piccadilly line from Green Park to Vauxhall, then train to Epsom. Watched the Paxman WW1 documentary on iPlayer.

(Got a puncture last night that I didn’t have time to sort out for today…)

Same as the OP, frame ordered after lunch, was at my desk mid morning the next day. Great stuff.

Where are you going to be using it? FWIW, around London I found the 2-speed gearing to be far more suitable. (..and it’s lighter too.)

Sorry, just can’t get at all interested in any fantasy stuff eg this and Harry Potter, although I did sit through the first LOTR film. It was ok, but very long and drawn out . Lots of walking.

Had a full day at Mercedes Benz World at Brooklands, Weybridge, in an AMG C63 with an instructor. Track, Skid pan & off road course in the AMG 4X4 thing.

Absolutely superb day – have never had so much fun as getting it totally sideways and into a perfect drift/ doughnut on the skid pan.

I’m just glad that I wasn’t paying for it….I think it was more like £600!

One massive inbox for me. Just had a huge clearout and still have 3-4000 emails in there. I can find everything I need with the search tool.

Whenever I’ve tried to use folders it’s been a disaster. Unless you can definitely categorise everything (depends on your job, I’d say) then knowing where to look is a nightmare.

4yrs and 18 months here. I had forgotten that 18 months is the cutest but also most exhausting and full on stage!

I have been out on the bike twice in the last year ( except for commuting…). Not sure how anyone else manages it.

I use Airfoil to send from iMac desktop to two different stereos/ amp & speaker set ups, each with its own Airport Express connected

Lets you send things other than iTunes (eg Spotify, radio etc.) to the Airport Express connected speakers.

“Could someone explain in idiot terms how that Airport Express works?
So, I’ve got a laptop or ipod with all my music on in the lounge, I’ve got a stereo in the kitchen…. What happens?”

1:Plug Airport Express into the wall near the stereo.
2:Connect to stereo with Phono to 3.5mm jack lead.
3:Desktop/laptop/Phone/iPad with iTunes can now send music wirelessly to your stereo.

You can have other airports connected to other stereos or powered speakers or amp/speakers combos.

iTunes or the app on a phone etc., lets you choose which to play tunes through.

Thanks everyone – seems pretty definitive! The only question now is Cnoc 14 or 16? She’s 4.5 yrs, but I’m thinking the 14 would be easier to handle for her to start with and could be handed down to her younger brother (18months) sooner..

Seems like £130 or so is the going rate for the 14 or 16 second hand. Anyone got one in purple they’d like to shift before Xmas?

She won’t care what it is as long as it can have streamers put on the handlebars and a doll’s seat fitted!

    …I’ve just found a similar earlier post…

I think it’s down to one of these..:

    Islabike CNOC 16

    Ridgeback MX16

Thoughts/recommendations either way? Anything else I should look at?

That’s lovely. They still look so damn good. Problem is, you wouldn’t dare drive it.

I’ve got great memories of a family driving holiday round Switzerland in my dad’s Mk11 ( Peach coloured with black vinyl roof, natch). around 1979-80.

Had the same on my A4 at 163k – I was convinced it must be a wheel bearing at that mileage.

However, I took it for a service at the local Audi specialists and the guy from the garage drove me to the train station in it. After about 2 minutes, he said to me :

“Have you got Avons on this?”

    Me: “Er, yes” ( ZZ3s)

    Him: “Thought so.”

Anyway, to cut a long story short, a new set of Dunlops and the car is silent again. If your tyres are getting worn, I’d wager it’s them. Certain tread patterns seem prone to the ‘sawtooth’ effect described above, i.e. some tread blocks seem taller than others as you feel around the circumference of the tyre and it creates that drumming effect.

I’d be glad – it’s reassuring that they are serious and not just chancers about to drop out of the deal at the last minute.

    1920s 3 Bed Terrace – Surrey.

Full rewire using the second cheapest white plastic faceplates, new pendant fittings upstairs and 18 x GU10 downlighters downstairs.

Fluorescent strip light in the loft, 2 outside power sockets, provision for 2 outside lights, new extractor fan in bathroom, hardwired smoke/heat detectors x 3.

House was totally empty (did it before we moved in) so no furniture to move or any worry about dust.

I have done all the replastering/making good and redecorating myself.

    MATERIALS £1285
    LABOUR £1920
    VAT £641
    TOTAL £3846

Be prepared for a total sodding mess! I can’t imagine having to do it while you’re living there….

As many others have said, it’s completely relative the where you live, your housing situation, whether you have kids, whether your wife/partner works, how many holidays/cars you feel entitled to, etc.

Good salary? About 10k more than you earn right now. Simples.

This is the only completely correct answer on here!

When you have one household income, a family to support and the kind of mortgage required to buy a fairly meagre house in the South East to shelter them, £50k is a minimum I’d say. And you still have no foreign holidays and drive a 10 year old car.

Earning £50k in your 20s, with your partner earning the same, would, however, make you feel pretty well off!

Do test ride the 2 and 3 speed versions for comparison – I think you’ll get what I and others are saying: The 2spd gears seem more useful than those on the 3spd. It’s MUCH lighter and the gears can easily be swapped. If you want a 6 spd however, then go for it.

I can’t agree with ransos – Feels like a BMX. Super nippy and great acceleration.
