Nope, can’t say it holds any interest for me at all.
Just seems so one dimensional (ie it’s all just about pure fitness/stamina), compared to MTB which requires much wider range of skills IMO. I like to point this out to my roadie mates at every possible opportunity too – I find using the term ‘one trick pony’ usually provokes the desired reaction!

    White’s a bit… erm… Essex, no?
Just ordered mine in gun metal grey (only cos the wife said we can’t have 2 black cars)

can’t start the non-payment process for 2 days… OK no biggie, but I want to get it relisted ASAP.

If I choose the ‘buyer and I agreed to cancel the transaction’ option, do I still get a fee refund/free relisting?

I’m new to the whole Reverb thing (as in 2 rides!), but noticed mine was very slow to rise yesterday, which I hoped was the cold as it’s pretty much brand new.

Wasn’t mega cold though – maybe 4 degrees when we left, bit colder by the time we got back.

Stick em on ebay. I’ve bought & sold quite a few 1930s doors on there, there’s a market for period stuff. As long as they aren’t weird sizes they’ll sell.

Please tell me you insured it!

I’d certainly have slept better if we had!

Luckily the birthday boy isn’t short of a few quid, so he’d have covered it.

I did something similar for a mates 40th 2 years ago.
We stayed in Torridon, but flew into Inverness, so picked up the cars from the airport.

We booked a pair of BMW X5 (or similar) through Thrifty Prestige – turned out to be a Range Rover Sport and a Discovery 4, both were brand spanking new!

Cost was almost bang on £300 each for a 2 day rental, picking up Friday morning, dropping off Sunday morning and included 2 extra drivers and unlimited mileage.
Excess was £3500 though, which was a bit of a worry!

Think they have stuff like BMW 640, X6, new RR Sport – maybe not what you’re looking for, but at leaat the prices are fairly sensible.

    Have fun!

Got several Strava records on my iPhone, all between 573 and 625 ft

Higher ones probably include a bit of mucking about in the jump gulley!

    Which site?
If you’re trying to download for Xbox or Playstation both sites were taken down by hackers (allegedly) on Xmas day. Not sure which services have been reinstated but a quick Google should tell you.

Yep, same here. Kids had it just before Xmas, so at least they recovered in time & enjoyed it, but I’ve been feeling rough for a week and spent most of the past 2 days in bed.

Doubly gutting as this was delivered last week and still hasn’t turned a wheel in anger:

Ah… thanks Nick, that’s kinda what I was worrying about.
Might go with a few carefully placed frame protection dots for now.

This site seems to have a decent round-up of prices in most of the well know online stores:

If you like a drop of wine yourself & hence don’t mind buying a few extra, you could look at the current Tesco deal on their Finest range.

If you buy 2 cases you get 20% off.
Spend £150 and you can use code xxply7 to get £30 off the total.

I just bought 6 bottles of Cotes du Rhone, 6 decent Chablis and 6 Finest Champagne (I plan to take 2 of each to my in-laws on Xmas day) and it worked out at £5-something a bottle.

Also got another £6-odd back by going through Quidco.

    Bargain!

yeah, I’d have no worry with Bird, they seem like great guys and are just down the road from me. Can’t afford the Aeris in spec I want though!

My moral dilemma comes with the knowledge that some people’s livelihood relies on EBay ripping people off by selling fake crap on the internet

    Does that help?

    Another IAM recommendation here.
I did it probably 12 years ago, really useful for improved hazard perception, road positioning & generally encouraging a more positive attitude to driving.

2 hours in the car with a serving police advanced driving instructor certainly focuses the mind too!

Kudos to the OP for being open minded enough to accept the feedback about his driving and consider doing something to improve it.

Also in case you didn’t know you can also claim tax relief on the difference between the mileage rate and the HMRC allowance.

I’m amazed by the number of people who don’t realise this – it’s worth >£1k a year to me. A lot of my colleagues can’t understand why I turn down the company fuel card, but I know for a fact they’d be better off without it.

I just climb into the shower fully clothed – rinse off all the visible crap, then kick all the clothes into a pile in the corner while I clean myself.

I don’t have any expensive water proof stuff though.

What really takes the biscuit is when you see a single person driving an empty car with a bike on the roof or boot; they must really lack imagination.

or maybe they thought that seeing as the manufacturer of their car has gone to the trouble of filling the interior with lots of soft squishy airbags to protect them in an accident, filling it up with large spikey metal things might not be a great idea?

I’m in St Albans and must admit I’ve got into the habit of just heading to Swinley rather than bothering to try and find local routes.
Did a couple of hours north via Sandridge and across to Welwyn – bit of a random route but there’s actually loads of paths when you start looking, although nothing particularly exciting.

North Mimms sound interesting as I’m that side of town…

Yeah, I’m not expecting too much excitement, but hoping for some flowy singletrack.

Anyone got an opinion on the Jag XF Sportbrake?
Currently looking at that or a 520d.
The major fallback for the Jag is that my wife thinks it’s an ‘old man’s car’. Is it?

Hmm – problem with directing it towards our account or finding error codes is that we can’t get access to any of the menus – it’s either update of switch off.

I did wonder about the broadbank speed – ours is shite, but I can’t get a screen into the same room at the router to try the ethernet cable option (without taking one off the wall… which I might finish up doing!)

Got rid of ours a year ago using those traps ^^
I left a couple up there baited with peanut butter but never had any further problems…. until yesterday. Went up there to put away suitcases after holiday and found a dead mouse in one of the traps. Judging by the number of maggots which spilled from it’s rotting inards, I’d say it had been there a little while.

Moral of the tale…. whatever method you use, check it regularly.

Cheers Timb34, that rando looked like fun!
My experience of the FCC trails is that they’re a bit heavy on fire roads. I’d prefer more Singletrack so might have to go exploring a bit.

Thanks for posting the vids – made me want to get the bike out now!

I’ve always had a thing for the V10 M5 – however as I do upwards of 20k miles a year, unlikely I’ll ever own one!

We’ve camped in France for the past 5 years, always in August.
first year we went to La Rochelle and the weather was crap. IMO if you’re gonna drive all that way, you might as well do the last few hours and get to the Med for guaranteed (pretty much) good weather.

Last 3 years we’ve been to Gorge Du Verdon area – stunning scenery, striking distance of Monaco, Nice, Cannes etc for day trips. Some good riding too if you take the bike.

Personally we go for cheap roadside motels if we want to get there quickly, or decent B&B/gites if we want to enjoy a more leisurely journey. Couldn’t be arsed getting the tent set up just for a stopover (but our tent is mahoosive and takes us ages to set up).

Most sites will be getting quieter by end of August as all the French holidays have finished – usually still quite a few Brits and Dutch around though.

When working out travelling times in France – you cqn pretty much assume setting the cruise control at 80 and only slowing down for fuel and toll booths if you stick to the autoroutes. Sooooo much better than UK roads.

After my last visit to them (3 or 4 years ago) I realised they hadn’t replaced the locking wheel nut.
Went back and the guy took me into workshop, pulled out a box and said ‘have a look in there’ – it was full of wheel nut locks, so obviously something they did regularly!

Hey Bear – Mondraker meets Llama!

SLRs would be ideal but all spare change is currently being diverted into my own new bike fund (which was raided last year to buy the Mondraker frame from you!)
