    Red nose day innit?

I’ll be eating my own body weight in homemade cakes.

    That’s what I thought.

I’ve emailed the local Cube dealer to see if they can help, although I doubt they’re under any obligation.

Mine does this, came new on my Cube Stereo.

It’s going to be a pain to sort – I’ve no idea how to remove it as it’s internally routed and the shop I bought the bike from has closed down.

What’s the worst that will happen if I leave it?

Cheers andyl – bookmarked for later in the summer when the contents of the garage can be left outside for a while (not the bikes, obv, they’ll be in the house!)

Grey PU floor paint will be very tough (the weakness is generally what it’s painted onto).

Talk to me about preparation…. I’m thinking the same as the OP but favouring paint. Floor is concrete but v. dusty.

WTF… 1.5m! .. that looks like the entrance to a mine or something else subterranean!

My car’s 1.85m high so that would be very messy/expensive if I’d done the same.

Yup – got a 140 Race in carbon flavour

I only got it just before Xmas so I’ve had limited saddle time so far and a lot of it has been in pretty rotten conditions.

Overall impression is positive though, it’s my first 29er and feels a lot quicker than my old Anthem. Need to play with the shock settings though, I’m getting a lot of pedal strikes in ‘descend’ mode so think I’m running it too soft. Plus it nearly bounced me over the bars at the jump gulley at Swinley a couple of weeks ago, so think I’ve got the rebound set too fast!

deluded – PCO seem to be more concerned with infringements of the licensing laws than traffic offences, but I might drop them a line anyway.

Reckon a call to the police in the morning might be the way forward.

    Priceless.

We camp every year on one of the official sites.

The convenience is great, cos traffic in and out of the site on show days is a nightmare.

    Added advantages:
    – grab a beer and a couple of camping chairs and sit by the side of the road at the end of the day. I reckon every other classic leaving the site gives you a honk or a cheery wave. Epitomises the friendly atmosphere of the event and rounds off a great day (my young lad loves this too)
    – you can enjoy the early morning/late afternoon flypasts, from the comfort of your tent. Last year we sat outside our tent late on the Satruday, watching the 2 Lancasters doing cicuits overhead, with various Spitfires and Hurricanes. That was worth £65 of my money any day!

EDIT: sorry, I’m talking about the Revival. As you were!

It basically depreciated about £220 in the 2.5 years I owned it. I upgraded a couple of bits too but overall, given the number of hours I rode it and how much fun I had in the process, I’m pretty happy with the maths.

For the record, I had it listed on ebay and got offers between £400 and £500, which after fees would have netted much less than I got, so as said above, ebay asking price does not equal ebay selling price.

+1, had dealings with him through the classifieds. I vote him honorary ambassador of the forum!

That sort of activity counts as trading in my book and if reported the individual should be banned according to the forum rules.
If it’s reported and they’re doing in on there they are.

Woa there… it didn’t sell through the classifieds on here & as I said, I don’t have any issue with the situation, other than potentially being a bit annoyed at myself if I sold it too cheaply.

    Why does it matter?
why were you searching for the exact same bike as the one you sold on ebay?

Sounds like you are just wasting time

I wasn’t searching for the same bike, I’ve got a generic ebay bike search sorted by location, so it popped up as local to me.
    And you’re right, it doesn’t matter, I’m just curious… every day’s a school day

I find the idea of paying for demos a bit difficult to get my head around. I’ve never paid for one.

Imagine walking into a car showroom & being charged for a test drive

If you’ve got ‘away from home’ cover they might pay out.

I did a local 15 mile loop. Started OK and for a short while I though it was going to be a bit less boggy than recently.
    I was wrong.

The mud had dried a bit from last weekend, just enough to be bind itself to every available surface in thick, claggy lumps.

    The highlights were:
    – frequent stops to pull handfuls of mud from between the moving parts, just to get the wheels rotating again
    – dragging the bike downhill (yes, DOWNHILL), with both wheels locked solid to get out of a field that looked like the Somme
    – being barely able to lift the bike over a stile, due to it being tripled in weight by the clinging mud.

I was actually glad to find a short stretch of road with a slight decline, just to build up enough momentum to be hit in the face/arse/back of the head by the huge dollops of clag flying from the wheels.

Still, better than not riding, eh?

Can’t say I’ve noticed, stuff still seems to sell on BIN listings.

Ebay is becoming more of a last resort for me these days though. Their fees now often seem to outweigh the benfits of using them.

I had someone hit the BIN button accidentally on a bike I was selling recently. I agreed cancel the sale but instead of refunding the final sale fees, they gave me a credit on my account – so effectively keeping the money until I spend it with them.

Stuff like that just encourages me to avoid them as much as I can.

My silly car ticks a lot of boxes:
    – Italian: yep
    – engine behind the driver: yep
    – open top: yep
    – red: yep

… I’ll post a picture later when I get home so you can bask in it’s awsumness.

What possible harm could they do?

I’m not exactly sure – the squirrel hatred comes from concern about them getting into the house/loft I think (how likely is that?).
Pigeons…. again not sure, but I think it’s related to her chickens.. concern about disease maybe?

This has depressing similarities to my neighbour’s current war against wood pigeons/collared doves and squirrels.

We live in a semi-rural village, adjacent to open fields.

smogmonster, good to hear your positive experience with Cube – the shop I bought my Stereo from has closed down, so I’ll have to go direct to Cube with any warranty issues

I had the same dilemma before Xmas but found a 2014 Stereo HPC140 Race at a price I couldn’t refuse.
The only thing that put me off Canyon were some stories about long delivery lead times (depends on the model/size etc) and uncertainty about sizing.

We built a case using the cars history, recent bills & local ads for similar models.
Got an increase of around 20% over the first offer.

Also worth considering buying the car back from the insurance company if it’s still drivable

I bought my Cube Stereo from them a couple of months ago (online, never met them).
Can’t say they were overly friendly, but certainly very professional and it was cheaper than everywhere, even CRC

Sad if they have gone, I’d gladly have recommended them.

Ps good idea to pre- book you tickets for the Eiffel Tour. You’ll still have a bit of queuing to get up to the higher levels, but much better than just turning up…. especially if you’ve got small people with you.

Also worth a walk along the river to the love bridge, take a felt tip pen, buy a couple of cheap locks from one of the sidewalk vendors & get kids to write their names on them… for some reason ours both loved this!

    We went for 3 nights in May for wife’s 40th, with 2 kids (9 & 11).
Struggled to find a central hotel with family room which wasn’t ridiculously priced.

We eventually went for an apartment through these guys Paris

You’ll get a much nicer place for a fraction of the hotel prices.

On the road bikes is dull thing, I think there is a point being missed. There’s a purity that comes from good cadence, chain whirring, smooth tarmac, speed, beautiful countryside/mountains (and scoping start of new mtb routes!), absence of others, being alone in thoughts, resolving problems (I’m an academic), and sometimes just not thinking at all and enjoying a bit of zen time lost in pedalling.

saxabar maybe you’ve hit nail squarely on the head here…. riding any bike can be great in the right circumstances. Living in the south east, with busy, crowded roads, my experience of road riding is never likely to replicate yours, hence my perception that it would be dull. Perhaps if I lived in the Alps I’d think differently!

does it really matter what other people ride?

No, it doesn’t matter, but it’s interesting to hear other peoples views. I don’t mind admitting I’ve had my mind broadened by a couple of posts in this thread (I still won’t be rushing out buy some Lycra though!)

I don’t feel the need to disparage anyone else’s choices.

Agree with your sentiment & hope I didn’t come across as knocking others choice of discipline (well only in a tongue-in-check way!)

I guess I kind of see it as a completely different sport – if I was going to get involved I’d need a different bike, shoes, clothing, skill set etc. doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the guys/gals who do it well though – actually I’m glued to the Tour Down Under right now!
