Yep, old bar tape in the mix I think.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not having a go, was just amused that’s all.

I really can’t see how people need to use 3rd party companies to do this – basically you just give them the same information you give the bank!

Correct in theory, except that when I initially contacted Barclays direct I was told I had no claim but the PPI company I used managed to claim £3k from them.

Same details, different result. No idea why.

5-star reviews in the Lego household. Enjoyed it much more than the first series.

We recorded and binge-watched it over a week or so – think it might have been a bit difficult to keep up if we’d had a week between each episode.

Bit late to the party on this one, but until recently I was in no way e-bike curious.
I have no issue with them, just figured they were for folk who ‘needed’ the assistance for some reason.

However, went to the Rutland demo day a few weeks ago with a couple of mates & we demoed the Haibikes e-range (fatty, hardtail and full suss).
What an absolute hoot! All 3 of us climbed off the bikes grinning like idiots. I can honestly say, this was the best fun I’ve had on a bike erm… possibly ever!

They did encourage us to ride faster than we probably otherwise would (actually, to be honest they brought out our inner hooligan a bit!)and I can definitely see the potential issues on shared trails, but if you’ve never tried one get yerself a demo and give it a try – seriously, it a revelation!

My regular local loop involved a few miles of single track road with passing places, some of which has banked sides making it virtuallly impossible to move far enough over to let anything other than a small car pass.
Never really had too many problems and in fact I use the psssing places to let traffic overtake me – most drivers take time to acknowledge this gesture too.

However was out with my son on Saturday morning when the local Morrisons delivery driver came towards us, drove straight past the only passing place between us so ultimately our only option was to turn round and ride back to the last gateway and let him past. From his reaction I don’t think it was aggressive, I think some people just aren’t very good drivers… which is a worry when it’s their job.

Pretty much exactly the same experience here – I was convinced I’d never had it. Filled in a couple of form. Cheque for for over £3k arrives!

Although after PPI company and tax man took their share it’s a lot less…

I’ve got a pair of Sram X9 jockey wheels you can have for £5. I killed the mech with a big rock, but the wheels are obviously OK. If you’ve not solved it all already…
Drop me a message if interested. I’ll be back in the UK from Wednesday.

I’ll have em if the OP doesn’t want them. Can’t see an email in your profile, but mine is so drop me a message. Cheers.

I’m in the same boat – Garmin website is useless for making comparisons across the range.

After a bit of Googling I did manage to find this:
    Evans linky

It doesn’t answer your question, but helped me rule out the 810 and also understand the differences between Edge 820 and Edge 820 Touring.

It wasn’t easy to find, so it’s possible there’s an 820 v 1000 equivalent out there somewhere!

I had a 2005 Disco 3, this sums up my ownership experience nicely:

    Older disco = financial heartbreak.
    Horribly unreliable.
    Don’t do it

Also currently running a 2010 XC90 which I’ve had from new. The XC90 has done 125k miles and cost a fraction of what the LR cost in approx 40k miles.

I regularly travel London to Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool, but I really don’t get the whole capacity issue. The trains are rarely full (except maybe the first one out in the morning). The problem is reliability not capacity.

However I only take the train when I know I’ve got some leeway on time because I simply can’t rely on it arriving on time. Also the main attraction vs driving is that I can do 2 hours work each way… but only if the damn wifi is working, which is often isn’t.
Take this away and the train is often far more expensive and always less convenient as it’s not door-to-door.

    Cheers Plecostomus – useful link.

I bought it like that – I’m not the original owner but it’s basically done a handful of miles before the original owner decided road riding wasn’t for him (expensive lesson!)

Anyway it’s gone in to my LBS (Cannondale dealer) who confirmed it didn’t look right, so they’re going to remove and refit on Monday. Swapping the white bar tape for black at the same time (I know, lazy b*stard that I am)

Cheers Mashie – only ridden it once for approx 20 miles & noticed it mid-ride.

All seems well so hopefully no damage done but I’ll be taking it in tomorrow.

What’s the wavy washer’s function – weird looking thing!

My e-class has needed 2 fills in about 30k miles
Annoyingly when the re-fill message appears it starts to give a mileage countdown, after which it won’t start the engine, but it only gives you about 500 miles notice. As I’m a relatively high mileage driver, that pretty much gives me a day or two to fill it up sometimes.

It’s becoming more widely available but if you’re forced to get it from a motorway service station it costs a good few quid to fill

there’s nothing at BPW that a regularly mincing MTB’r couldn’t get down

I’m not so sure about that – I’ve only been once and although I’ve done plenty of trail centre riding I don’t have the skills for big jumps & gaps. There’s plenty of stuff at BPW I wouldn’t attempt.

OP’s been before, so he knows what he’s letting himself in for, but just sayin ‘yeah, it’s all rollable’ is setting someone up for a nasty surprise!

    Edit – yeah, what chrishc777 said ^

Any given car park, anywhere in the country on a Saturday morning: rammed to the gunnels, except for the rows of empty disabled spaces right outside the shop door!

Why are there so flippin many of them?? Whoever did the maths, did it wrong.

There do seem to be certain categories of items which attract total numpties.
My son sold a sweatshirt at the weekend (Palace, for any kids out there!). Bidding went to about £40-odd and the winning bidder has zero feedback.
Sure enough, an hour after the auction ends, we get a message ‘can you send me some more photos of the wash tags’ (except with much worse grammar).

No you moron, that’s not how ebay works!!

Moors valley also has a little skills area – small pump track, some jumps/woodwork etc.
Bit off piste but not too hard to find and it adds a bit of variety as the trail (a single blue graded trail) isn’t massively interesting, good for winter training though as it holds up pretty well in bad weather.

These are pretty good – I used peanut butter instead of almond butter (cos I’m a cheapskate) and rolled ’em in desiccated coconut so they’re not too sticky to pick up.

Legend has it. We paid about 15% IIRC of the settlement value to buy ours back.

Of course there’s no obligation to fix it once you’ve bought it back – as long as it’s roadworthy. We ran ours for 3 years without making any repairs. No MOT or insurance issues.

If we’d had a puncture it would have been more of a problem, as the boot floor was bent making it impossible to remove the spare wheel…

We’ve got had BT infinity broadband.

Booked an engineer to come round last week to move the main phone socket from a bedroom to the lounge (because the BT TV box has to be connected to it by an Ethernet cable – it can’t do wireless. WTF is that all about?).

Anyway, they somehow interpreted this request to also cancel the broadband contract and hence down graded us to the bog standard (ie useless) service.

No explanation offered as to how or why they’ve done this. Apparently the only way to fix it is for us to take about another 12 month contract. Promised a call back on Monday or Tuesday… still waiting.

Sadly the alternatives (certainly Sky) aren’t much better.

I had a 3 yr old Disco 3 a few years back. It was perfect for our needs and we kept it for around 2 years during which time it broke down a lot.

As a result of that experience I will never buy another JLR vehicle unless it’s inside their warranty.

Good luck if you go for it!

The seatpost, and hence collar, on my Giant Defy road bike are aero shaped, which means it can only go together in one direction – bolts to the rear, aligned with the gap.

Think my Cube MTB is the other way around though (and must have been like that when new).

So in summary, Giant and Cube obviously have different views on the subject!

Words I never thought I’d hear my son (13) say:

Expected it to be either over-sentimental Hollywood nonsense or hugely depressing, but it was actually neither of those, which given the subject matter is quite an achievement.

I only put my email details, never phone.
I’ve noticed I usually get a flurry of enquiries shortly after the ad is posted – all with simple, mundane questions (what size is it? how old is it?), which I reply to and then never hear anything.

A more cynical man than me might suspect these are some kind of auto-generated responses designed to make us think Gumtree is more popular than it is….

Me and a mate nearly fell foul of this on Saturday – I’d pre booked Paddington to Swindon (for access to the Ridgeway start) and had specifically checked the bike situation and The Trainline clearly says bike reservations are not necessary.
Obviously the train guard had a different view (as did a gobby young woman who had reserved a place for her bike and made sure everyone knew we hadn’t, even though there were only 5 bikes for the 6 spaces, so room for everyone).

Anyway at the point it looked like it might become a problem, we stashed the bikes and disappeared into the train with only a couple of minutes to spare, figuring the guard wasn’t going to unload them if we weren’t around.

Bloody annoying though and I’d have been mightily pissed if we’d been left on the platform with 60 quids worth of useless tickets

I’ve bought & sold a lot of used bikes over the years. I like to think I take all practical steps to make sure anything I bug is legit, but the one thing that has me running for the hills is a seller suggesting meeting at some random location that isn’t his home.

I understand the need for caution & I’d recommend speaking over the phone first – you’ll get a better idea who you’re dealing with.

I always make sure all other bikes are out of sight too when I’m selling

For a while I used to get one which contained one of my own ads – which was months old.
I don’t understand the point either – sure it drives you to their site, but you instantly realise it’s effectively just spam, immediately exit the site and never click again. Achieving what exactly?

Hey Legoman, was it you I met on the ride up Truleigh hill, on the SDW. You and a pal doing the LDN>BTN route? Hope you enjoyed that descent into Shoreham?

Hi ollybus, yep that was us! I was on the blue Cube looking significantly more knackered than my buddy!
The descent to Shoreham was the highlight of the ride, although it was slightly hampered by some thick claggy mud – both my wheels locked solid at one point and I had to scoop out handfuls of the stuff to get turning again. All part of the fun!!

    Cheers!

Cheers for the responses so far.
We’ve done the Eye, Borough Market & (numerous) Go Apes – all well received.

I will ask her but wanted some options to check out beforehand.

Camden market is a good call, likewise Tate modern. I was also thinking about seeing The Railway Children at Kings Cross – anyone seen it? Seems to get good reviews.

I think eBay offers you to use an existing item as a template when your writing it

^this would be my assumption. I use this feature when I’m selling on ebay – saves the faff of creating a listing form scratch.

That said, the number of muppets you encounter of ebay these days means it’s always sensible to be cautious.

I’d drop him a message with a few questions and see if you get a coherent response.
