    Wet?!?!? You pussy! 8)
I was there early June (I know… too early, all the lifts are closed etc) and there was a foot of snow as low as Bourg one day.

Actually snow wasn’t the main problem on the trails – it was all the trees it brought down which made it.. erm.. interesting

We went through some impressive ones on Saturday on the way back from Les Arcs.

It prompted a brief debate over who was more likey to get struck by lighting – me with my alloy framed Trance on top of the car, or my mate with his carbon road bike on his car?

i’d be contacting trailaddiction and offering to tickle ash’s balls or something for a day’s guiding

I was thinking about that (not the ball tickling), wasn’t sure if it was groups only. Might drop him a line.

Do up all your QRs – really tight
Had a creak on my Trance which I couldn’t trace, my LBS just did up the QRs, problem solved.

BMW 1 series seem to be the most dangerous cars on the road at the mo. Do they have poor visibility for the driver or unusually thick pillars drivers?

We’ve had 2 Vectras (a 98 and currently an ’02) both suffered the same problem

I haven’t got around to looking at the current one, but I had some success with the old one. Couldn’t find the leak, but suspect it was the rear side window, so I just used clear bathroom sealant around the windows, boot seals – anywhere water could be getting in. It’s a total bodge, but if done carefully you can’t really see it.

suspect I will have to make do with my 1972 Fiat 500 though & just about to embark on the annual battle with DVLA to prove it qualifies for free tax (made in ’72 but registered I ’73)

I’ve done the two left shoes thing.

They were both brown, so thought I might get away with it, but after 30 minutes I was about crippled. Borrowed someones company car to drive home.

Mmm, pneumatic wheels come with disadvantages tho, namely size in the car.

and the obvious disadvantage of potential punctures.
A big enough pain in the arse on the bike but at least I carry the kit to fix it. Don’t really want to add spare tubes & a pump to the already huge amount of baby paraphanalia you’ll be lugging around!

We had a Mamas & Papas travel system – was really good quality & kept going long after various lightweight Mclaren’s had been scrapped.

tell your wife that you crashed because you are having to use your nice bike to commute, does she want you to die?

nice idea, however more likely it will reinforce her view that mountain biking is more suited to teenagers & it’s time I got a grown up hobby. Ideally one that doesn’t generate huge quantites of filthy clothing.

sadly the Trance is definitley more bike than I could ever justify for my commute. The bike came before the commute & my wife won’t let me I can’t afford to get a dedicated commuter

Will give em a clean and a few more miles & see if things improve, otherwise some commuting tyres might be the answer (what road tyres for a 5″ full susser???)

wwaswas – I knew the Ron’s were a compromise (I do a lot more tarmac commuting than off-road at the moment), just didn’t expect such a massive difference

Olly – hoped it might be something like this. Sounds like an excuse to go & get muddy!

Sorry Alcopop, but I’ve got no sympathy.
You were driving uninsured – end of.
If it’s just because you didn’t read the letter your insurance company sent then you need to take the whole thing a bit more bloody seriously. Perhaps a fat fine and some points will help with that.

An uninsured driver piled into the back of me (and several others) on the M1 a few years back. I’ve got no idea whether he was a serial offender or just ‘forgot’ to read the letter telling him he needed to insure his car. Quite frankly I don’t give a shit, as either way I finished up paying for it.

+1 for Simple, been with them for a couple of years.
Not sure of the extent of cover but they were cheapest for me.
I only insure buildings, leave the contents to the tenants but the only thing I’ve ever left inside was a washing machine which the last tenants nicked when they moved out!!

Is it your land? Is it your responsbility? Further that is it a footpath?

Either way, the countryside isn’t just for mountain bikers, you know.

    WTF are you on about?

You do know this is a mountain bike forum, right?

fair enough, that was based on my own experience buying last summer

I guess it depends on a number of factors (state of the market, model you want, even just speaking to the right person in the shop?). Or maybe I just didn’t try hard enough :?

Hi there, I bought a Seamaster last year for my 40th, love it & wear it every day.

Was a bit beyond my price range so I was looking at pre-owned ones but there are just too many stories of fakes being sold as genuine.

However it’s worth considering Goldsmiths – they do a pre-owned service & they’re all guaranteed. I registed with them, told them what I was looking for & got calls from several stores when they got models in which I was interested in.

    http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/information/pre-owned

In my experience discounts on new watches are pretty thin from authorised dealers – I managed to get 5% at Stansted airport (on top of duty free price)

Tunnel every time – done it with kids several times.

Really slick operation (no waiting about), Tesco vouchers make it free and I think you can pretty much turn up 2 hours either side of your booking and they just stick you on the first available train.

As Mackem said, don’t bother with the flexible tickets – really expensive and the std fares are pretty flexible.

OK you have to sit in your car (or stand beside it) for 35 mins, but P&O ferries ain’t exactly Disneyworld are they?

Mrs LM out with the girls, so for me:
    – just starting on a 4 pack of Abbot
    – moving on to a nice 2009 Monastrell Red
    – then possibly the second bottle of Monastrell
    – Godfather 1, 2 and 3 on SKY+ (unbelievably I’ve never seen any of them)

    Now THAT’S a Saturday night!

Had the same problem on my trance. Tried all sorts of things & eventually took it to my LBS.

The guy just tightened up all the QRs (much tighter than I would have dared, for fear of breaking one), problem solved.

I did feel a bit of dick mind.

AFAIK you don’t pass or fail the check, it merely returns details of any records against your name. It’s then up to whoever has asked you for it to judge whether you’re acceptible to them.

Doubt it would record anything you weren’t charged with, but the records do go back a loooong way. Guy I know (in his early 40’s)had one done recently and was surprised it turned up his one-and-only brush with the law from when he was a teenager!

I stopped at Costa on the M4 Reading services early-ish one morning.
Stood at counter for a few minutes while a couple of girls pottered about with the coffee machine and till, neither spoke to me or even made eye-contact.

Eventually I asked ‘are you open?’

to which one of them replied…. ‘I don’t know’

    Okaaaay… bye then!

Swapped my Disco 3 for a new XC90 D5 auto in March & really pleased with it. Easy-ish to get bikes on the roof by standing on the back seat with the door open & easily fits 4 bikes up there.

Fundamentaly I don’t think the XC90 is as well designed as the D3, but reliability really let the D3 down (not just my experience) and the new D4 is massively expensive.

Not sure how I’d feel about a manual box, I guess it’s personnal preference but I really think these cars suit autos. Used manuals are like hens-teeth so I guess most people agree.

Only problem I’ve had…… my wife decided to modify the side or ours against a metal post in the school car park. She drives past it twice a day FFS, so how the hell she ‘forgot’ it was there I’ve no idea!!

Mine is still on the original Conti’s and has just hit 12k miles.. maybe I drive like a girl!

we’ve converted our entire ground floor to underfloor & love it, no hot/cold spots around the house, no cold wood or tiled floors. There’s nothing not to like.

There are no pipe joins beneath floor level, so chances of leaks are minimal. If you do have a problem, you have to lift the floor, but most traditional cerntral heating pipes run under the floor anyway, so little difference really.

If you’re getting sweaty feet, you’ve got it turned up way too high. Do this with an engineered wood floor and you’ll cook the boards which will delaminate them.
