    Sudocrem cat.

Entertaining and it appealed to my irrational hatred of cats. What’s not to like.

    Why?

    1) Because there’s a market for them
    2) Free ebay listing every other weekend = no loss if they don’t sell
    3) The alternative is chucking them in the recycling

I’ve listed/sold a couple recently. I don’t really care why people want them.

Just be aware that some insurance companies will not provide cover for a car that is ‘on the register’ i.e. Cat D or Cat C.

When I mentioned this on a previous thread several people came along to tell me it was nonsence.

We’ve stayed here – it belongs to a friend.
6 beds, so might not be big enough depending how many kids you can bunk in together.

About 20 mins drive to Bourg.

Walking distance to a lift which I think goes up to Arc 1600 (we went in May and the lifts were shut).

I fell in a load of nettles. Thankfully they weren’ty stingy enough to kill me.

I went earlier this year and tried to follow the arrows, but had same experience as you – sometimes they seemed to disappear, other times I thought I was following them only to come across arrows pointing in the opposite direction.

In the end we gave up and just did our own thing – it’s not really a big enough area to get lost.

My wife learnt at a very young age, that performing a handstand whilst playing the recorder is not condusive to retaining your front teeth.

My wife’s car was written off Cat C earlier this year.
We bought it back from the insurance company as salvage, got the VIC check done & still use it.

Salvage guy who assessed it told me it can be difficult to get fully comp insurance on a car recorded Cat C. Never checked it out as it’s only worth about 15p now, but worth checking if you’d want fully comp after your resto.

Pictures aren’t so much of a problem, but as they get older it’s the 3-dimentional stuff that really takes over – junk models, random pottery items, Christmas/Easter/other-religious-festival-related-decor.

We keep a selection of the best stuff, the rest goes to a staging post in the garage for a couple of months, then if it’s not missed by either legochild, it gets discreetly binned.

Have to be careful they don’t spot stuff in the garage though… resulting in ‘what’s my best moving shoe-box dinosaur model doing on the garage floor… and it’s head has come off!!’ Which is distressing for all concerned.

Just had a few days in Sheildag on the banks of Loch Torridon.
Amazing drive from Applecross up towards TV mast – last section has to be done on foot but possibly the most spectacular view I’ve ever seen in the UK.

    Applecross Inn also highly recommended!

As Daisy Duke said above, E-class has 2 rear-facing seats in the boot.
I’m looking for something along similar lines and that’s the only non-MPV/4×4 I can find with 7 seats.

They don’t look massively comfortable though – I think they’re really only for children/short journeys

given that everything else will be white I think the ali ones might look odd.

Why? You can get ali frames in white. We’ve got a large 3-pane ali bi-fold and it blends in fine with the rest of the white UPVC doors/window.

Go for it – tranforms the room.

XC90: bit thirsty but otherwise faultless as a family car

Wifes 52-plate Vectra: written off by yours truely earlier this year but bought back from insurance company as salvage. Drives perfectly but now worth approximately 30p

1972 Fiat 500L: been in the family since 1974. Fully restored 2 years ago. Pure comedy to drive – especially the lack of self-centreing steering.

My 7yo nephew was bitten by a blue ringed octopus on a Sydney beach yesterday. Sis didn’t realise what it was at first, but luckily someone else on the beach did – cue paramedics arriving very quickly and a blue- light dash to the nearest hospital.
Thankfully he’s OK but apparently these things kill more people than sharks!

Left me thinking – is the primary objective of all Australian wildlife simply to inflict painful death on passing humans??

Yes, went with my 10yr old lad.
Always a great event especially if you dress up and get into the spirit!

We camped for the first time this year which meant no queueing to get in/out, got to see loads more as we weren’t rushing about. Also meant I could enjoy a couple of pints of Goodwood Organic ale!

Highlights for me this year were the Ferrari 250GTO’s and the Cobra race.

My local B&Q (Welwyn Garden City) have got a huge stack of Makita 18v drills including 2 batteries for £99.

Looks very similar to that Screwfix one but doesn’t come with all the bits & bobs (most of which you won’t use!)

    Home made BBQ ribs.
New recipe, totally amazing, kids hoovered them up.

2-3 hours in the oven first though… not sure I’ll be doing it regularly.

The pop-up ones look like a great idea, just make sure you know how to fold them up.
We had a very entertaining hour & a half on a French campsite recently, watching a couple try to fold theirs up. Eventually they had to walk round the site to find someone with the same tent to come and help them – still took 5 people over 90 minutes!

Glad to hear I’m not the only one who carts them up to the room – got some very strange looks from a couple of Dutch families walking through the hotel lobby with a Giant Trance on my shoulder last week!

Went to the rowing with my family yesterday – our experience was exactly the same as yours.

Not only was everyone friendly and chatty but they seemed genuinely happy to be involved… not the usual robotic ‘have a nice day’ which passes for customer service in this country.

We’ve stayed here a couple of times (once on a stopover, but it was so good we went back for a week).

    http://www.france-voyage.com/beds-breakfasts/site.php?lid=14077&lang=fr

Lovely grounds for kids to play in & the couple that run it will do you a full traditional French evening meal, accompanied by 3 different types of Calvodos which the owner makes from apples in his orchard.
Breakfast is to be lingered over too…. I can still smell the fresh coffee and homemade apple cake!

She has also been asking me quite a lot to get rid of the letting agent and reduce the rent and also let her pay fornightly.

Is she a good tenant in all other respects? (ie looking after the place, not constantly asking for minor maintenance work etc). If so, as a landlord myself, I’d sack the agent, reduce the rent by the amount you were paying them and let her pay fortnightly.
She’s suggested this solution, so presumably it works for her and if there are no other issues it could work out for both parties.

Offset this against the cost of evicting & finding a new tenant = 1 months lost rent plus the agency’s finders fee – last time I did it, it cost me close to £1k. You need to be pretty sure you want rid to justify spending this kind of money.

Also if you think she might be a long termer… this has value. As I’ve said, changing tenants always costs money so it’s worth perservering to find a solution.

We’ve got a Jumpking Ovalpod, over 2 years old and looks pretty much like new.
The way the net attaches is better than most – it sort of clips to the top of the uprights which is easier on the eye than the usual multiple strap arrangment and if someone grabs it I think it would pop out at the top rather than rip.

Not cheap (think we paid close to £500 for the 10x15ft model) but I reckon you get what you pay for with these things.

I bought a ticket recently to travel from St Albans to Liverpool. OK, I didn’t buy it in advance and needed an open return… but surely £300 is taking the piss somewhat.

To add insult to injury, they didn’t even manage to get me all the way to Liverpool, diverting to Warrington because of overrunning engineering work.

Just glad it wasn’t my money!

I’m a landlord too… no way on earth I would accept a broken toilet as wear and tear… that’s damage, plain and simple.

First port of call should be the DPS, as others have said. The whole point of deposit protection is to help resolve these kind of disputes and to protect tenants from unscrupulous landlords.

Not sure why you didn’t call them as soon as the issue came up, unless the landlord hasn’t paid your deposit into the DPS, in which case he’s breaking the law. You could point that out to him!

I think you also need to consider re-sale value to evaluate the true cost.
Bikes like the Spesh A1FS, Giant XTC Jnr, Scott Scale Jnr etc seem to hold their value pretty well, maybe due to rarity. Islabikes re-sale seems to be in a league of it’s own!

Not sure what the second hand value for something like the Carerra would be.

My bestest crash was actually on a road, but I was riding an MTB so it counts right?
A: Head-on into a cab a high speed resulting in hysterical cabbie (thought he’d killed me), major city thoroughfare brought to standstill (passing doctor wouldn’t let me get up out of the road), hugely disproportionate emergency service response (3 traffic cars & ambulance), all closely followed by my wife & 2 small children very distressed at sight of apparently serious RTA involving Daddy. Reckon that’s good for a 4.
    B: 0
    C: 0
    D: 3
    E: 0
F: front wheel/helmet/backpack = 4, new windscreen & front wing for VW Touran, plus 1 day lost earnings for cab driver = 16

    26 points…. Hmm didn’t feel like a 26 pointer…
