BD, he was justified using his head to try and keep Dean on his line apart from the last one, which was definitely more of a headbutt than a push. His block of Farrar was dodge too, but no worse than Dean's movement that kicked it all off. I think it's a shame the race jury were so clearly biased, both lead out men should have been relegated, not DQ'd.

    NO he isn't!

    Actually quite quiet.

I'll let you have this one

Well done on yet another win though. be interesting to see if he can do it without renshaw this year now

Maxed out my out computer on the road bike at 99kph in the alps once. Nothing to do with gears at that point!

Yeah, cos Schleck didn't tow him up with other 20 km of the climb or anything….

what race were you watching? sky and then astana were on the front all day.

It wasn't really a sprint though. Sanchez towed Schleck to the line and so should have been given the stage. Sanchez was angry afterwards, bit of bar thumping going on!

If you can fathom out the BC website, there's a lot of good info on there!
If you're keen it is well worth joining a local affiliated club with 3rd and 4th cat racers( not a "team", too many grumpy wannabes) for the sake of £25 a year. They will be able to help you with all the ins and outs. BC racing is surprisingly simple to enter once you know where to look.

A lot of non competative cyclists mistake this focus for rudeness.

very true. There are some very rude clubs/members but on the other hand, the extra friendly clubs round my way have an earned reputation for providing ready to crash racers….

I think the current BC thinking of only allowing 4ths on closed circuits is a good way of trying to keep (bad) crashes down a bit.

molgrips, you'd probably be fine in a 4th cat race or 3/4 first time out, but real difference is the sprint at the end which 90% of these lower cat races finish as.

I think oldgit and bristolbiker aren't coming from the same place as clubber's newbies though. Once you've done proper road races, a sportive will never fill the gap. However, if you haven't, then they could be a good stepping stone.

rainbow striped trolls? must be easy if a plastic toy can win a world champs!

sorry if it's not a troll Warrenpfo, but it certainly wasn't a well thought out question.

I know that from stalking you clubber 😉

and I understand your points from a newcomer's point of view. There's a similar situation at Herne Hill velodrome; hundreds of people go to the training sessions, but maybe 50-60 actually enter the race meetings.

Well again, why road race? why not do sportives instead?

Because a (UK) sportive is nothing like a proper road race where everyone starts together with lead and following cars and motorcycle outriders. Also sportives are about times and RRs position so the tactics in a RR are much more complex and interesting.

The combination of the Surrey League and SERRL in the south east provides loads of road races for all cats. The big problem now for organisers is police permission and health and fricken safety. The aforementioned leagues have built up good relationships with the necessary bodies and work tirelessly to keep events year on year, however there are always requests for marshalls and it is always the same few ensuring racing happens for the many.

Holeshot is getting into the first corner in first place in a 4x/bmx race

yeas, which is why I think it's a strange name for a long-forked, slack frame….

Dialled's frame is more appropriately named

I'm no Cav fan, but I think throwing your helmet (oo-err missus) is quite acceptable after his performance yesterday. He really really wants to win and didn't, better to throw a helmet than do something stupid in the sprint today

It's just outside Brighton. I'm sure a singlespeed will be fine. If you're that worried, bring gears.

    Cipo was arrogant wasnt he?

    self-assured 😉

Cav is obviously a fantastically talented sprinter but, just like Lance, you need more than that to be likeable.

    Boring – hell no!

Off the bike he is very boring. On the bike he is only exciting when he crashes or takes people out, which is not a good thing.

Because cipo was a cool, likeable dude.

Chav is a grumpy, arrogant, boring guy.

If racing for a top-10 place counts as a contender….

    Different sports, different skills.

Definitely. I think equivalent level footballers are less traditionally fit than cyclists, but the skills proportion of what makes them as a player is much greater so the fitness aspect is of slightly less importance.

That's true. I'm under no illusion i could outsprint him.

    me too .

However, a lot of even 2nd cat roadies train and race more than 15hours a week and have 5% body fat. I bet they have a higher V02 max and lower resting heart rates than a lot of premiership strikers.
Lots of non-competitive MTBers are pretty damn unfit though!

I'm driving through France tomorrow night in my parents' RS6 😀

Sure it doesn't handle like sports car, but it still isn't exactly a blancmange….

Doesn't really matter with 444bhp and bucketloads of torque on N and A roads anyway 😈

FWIW, I wouldn't buy a lower priced audi over most of their rivals, especially the 2.0 TDi models, bleuurgh!

They are not paid to entertain

Yes they are. That's the job of a professional sportsman, to entertain the followers in one way or another. They failed miserably yesterday apart from chavanel

557m is quite lumpy! All those classified climbs at the end will mean someone like Friere will be a bit fresher than the other sprinters. If the sprinters do struggle, Cancellara will attack with 2k to go 😀

I'm pretty sure it's a bike powered air exchanger:

    which can be found here

the shelter itself looks like this currently:

2m thick RC walls and roof!
we're hopefully putting a few more storeys on top and the shelter will be used as a museum.
