ooo000ooo, it's called R&D. Advanced FEA packages cost many thousands, qualified engineers and office overheads aren't going to be cheap, plus the actual testing time including wind tunnels and test beds, dead ends explored, free frames for pros… the list goes on.

How much does an F1 car car cost? for 600kg? come off it! my laguna weighs 1600kg, does the national speed limit, has a radio for only 20k 🙄

sorry Simon, that was a drop not a jump! you have to go upwards for a jump. you did get air under both wheels though 😀

fair enough, you got me 😳

though with the custom HEDs and powertaps that they all ride, 10k is more realistic, whic is a nice compromise 😆

what are you talking about RealMan? The frame alone is 3.5k, similar for the gruppo, 3k wheels, 1k finishing kit, 1.5k powertap stuff.

As I said on the original thread, 7k isn't difficult to spend on a bike nowadays, or even uncommon. Most chipper road races have plenty of 6k bikes

Why on earth are they so heavy?

they are 4 times wider than a normal rim, so I don't think it is unreasonable to expect them to be around 4 times heavier given there is 4 times as much material 🙄

I was there at the weekend and did the ladybower lite (20km) with the girlfriend from Jon Barton's route book. It was ace! There are plenty of longer routes in the book too and it was easy to follow, especially with an OS map as back-up. The times given seem accurate for an average MTBer which is handy if you don't have experience of the area

Did the ladybower lite from Jon Barton's book. I thought it was great, just at the limit of my girlfriend's capabilities, but enough to keep me interested

All those places were booked! Thanks for all your help though guys.

In the end we stayed at the loadbrook cottages and it was fantastic! Plushest B&B rooms I have ever stayed in, MASSIVE bathroom, yummy breakfast and a secure bike store. I would recommend it again.

just turn up an hour before the start, pay your money, scope the course, race!

just like MTBing, tyre choice depends on conditions. raze will be fine early season when the ground is hard and fast but will be crap when it all turns gloopy

if you run a forum search there are loads of threads covering this subject. as an overview:

most people need something to keep the chain on, depends on your bike, budget and riding for preferred method.

I run a 105 road mech (short cage) with an 11-32 cassette and 34 ring.

I recently got a S/H 13.5" Myka off the classifieds for my girlfriend, what a bike!
Everything is so well thought out (28spoke f wheel and 140 rr disc for example) and she absolutely loves it. Swap the fastraks for tyres with grip and it will go almost anywhere and the seriously swoopy top tube made some previous techy sections rideable. They look lovely too.

I spoke to you at the pub afterwards too, I was sitting with nick and the mule bar boys. You managed to get a solution then?

cool, I thought that might be the case seeiing your other post. I saw a bent frame from possibly lack of insertion at the big dog…

mdb, did you race at big dog?

It depends on the max extension too. Thomson's min amount within frame is less than most so a 410 is equiv to 430 or so with other brands. Make sure your frame will be OK though

Hang on. You have a grand's worth of broken keys and you still have the car?

it came with 3 when we got it s/h and we had been working through them…..
We prob will sell it now, we had thought "better the devil you know" but have found out that doesn't apply when it's a non renaultsport renault!

    live and learn eh?

No keys have been lost, no flipping way are we going to lose £220 quids worth of plastic! Renault's poo-stain electrics have made us get new ones, we have about 5 useless keycards kicking about. We're going to ask nicely but firmly, if they refuse we will suck it but it's a crap situation 🙁

It is ace for all kinds of riding!
My grandparents live in Bourganeuf and my parents have a place nearby. There are hundreds of km of official marked routes as well as many thousands more of unmarked legal trails. There are also DH tracks, Freeride areas etc etc One of my favourite bits about the area is that is is indeed so quiet.

If SB (hi Steve!) can't show you around here is a good starting point if you are in or around the Creuse.

that could be very useful BBB, she's got a lift to the bash sorted now, I'll find out what she's planning afterwards.

keyrepair would have been perfect if it wasn't for them being away this week!

Cougar, she needs to go to BBB, then plymouth, I think a taxi would be too much! Yes, a spare key would be nice, but £220 is a huge amount of money when one is trying to start a business on a shoestring for something that wouldn't have been need if the keycard wasn't so crap!

renault electrics frankenstein! an oxymoron if ever I heard one….

car won't be pushed spooky, steering lock is on.

Mat, there is no warranty on the car, only on the key which is the item that failed.

bruneep, because she displays and sells her clothes at events.

Frankenstein, key takes 5 days from france as standard, no possibility of reducing it. There's no spare key because the immobiliser went last year and they were charging £220 each for the keys alone so we only bought one.

sorry, perhaps wasn't clear. Car is 7 years old and out of warranty but key was replaced less than 12 months ago and is under warranty.

Vertical concrete elements are generally designed as "braced" which may well be what that nib/protrusion/wall are for…..

Obviously, if your walls are seriously deep a spindly 4" nib won't be doing much. But how deep are they? Are they reinforced? Where are the other perpendicular elements?

I'm a bit far away to visit, but the other guys may be closer.

the cobbled stage in the TdF this year

I disagee there, 35mph over cobbles on a road bike bears no relation to an XC race. I remember going to belgium and racing over the cobbles for the first time as a junior, I was all cocky cos I still raced XC the year before and rode cross all winter. People told me it would count for naught but I didn't really believe them. They were right, I got spat out as soon as we hit the first section 😳

There are some MTBers that are a bit gash, and some non-MTBers who are very skilled indeed.

    so true!

it may be required for stablity to the inner leaf of brickwork on the outside wall (if the loads are high) or be there to provide lateral stability for the other end of the beam.

    +1

Get a structural engineer, no one wants us at first but it will be a lot more expensive if we are needed and it's too late….

Ladybower Inn looks good, possibly a bit far from the M1 but I'll check it more thoroughly.

    Thanks Pook
