KVA do heavier guage than reynolds as well as plain guage tubes. At NHBS this year there were a few KVA MTBs.

The difficulty in bending to shape is a valid point and it will be interesting to see what happens with further tube shapes and profiles.

it needs the same carefully purging as ti to weld

does this apply to brazing of 953?

    NLA tower Croydon:

IMHO the only nice 60s concrete building around here. Lots of the worse ones are being demolished 🙂

what about building MTBs out of this stuff?

    http://www.kvastainless.com/shop/

similar yield strength and young’s modulus to 953 but available in thicker tube walls and larger diameters.

    I want a kva/953 cross bike, mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    awesome!

I’ve been going there on and off over the years for CX and MTB races as well as occasional rides. I have often thought there’s quite a bit of potential for a northshore/skills area with a range of jumps and the ubiquitous pump track.

I think one good XC trail linking the pockets of woodland could work well with more demanding singletrack sections added too.

I’m still smiling, I wouldn’t use dura ace or clinchers even if they were free 😀

short sharp intervals for crits, 2-3 sets of 5x 15sec, on 45sec off with 5 mins in between. If you don’t think you’re going to puke, you’re doing it wrong!

A family of boar wandered through the carpark whilst I was there for SSEC last year. It was amazing. I’ll try and find some pics

So what Mr Nutt? You can also buy Bugatti Veyron tyres at 6 grand EACH. The very best of everything costs and the law of diminishing returns probably means £130 on the top MTB tyre is about right.

Also, Dugast or FMB MTB tubs aren’t far off that price

Perhaps… Just goes to show that everyone likes different things eh?

too right! if we all like the same things, STW would be sooooo boring

Dunno what the fuss about IFs is, seems to be overpriced to get a “cool” label.

As mentioned above, speak to a good structural engineer.

There are many ways to design a loft conversion and avoiding the use of steel beams is quite common with a bit of careful thought.

unlikely to get “carbon lovelies” for £400 🙁

Speak to Guy at Pearsons about their Cartouche carbon fixed/singlespeed.
Can’t find one on their website but I’m sure I saw a frame in their shop the other week.

I think the difference between a berm and a wall ride is that a wall ride has to be hopped onto and off, whereas a berm can “steered” onto.

Anyway, this is my cyclocross wallride. It will be bigger next year more time to build it!

david, there are loads of threads on here showing that cross bikes (with the right rider) can take rocky red runs, reasonable sized jumps etc.

I agree with Crazy-Legs apart from this bit:

Proper CX racing is a niche within a niche, it’s VERY specialist and to do well you need the full set-up (2 bikes, several sets of wheels, a pit crew)

It’s actually a very open and inclusive sport and you don’t need 2 bikes etc to do well most of the time. Only when it’s very muddy will 2 bikes and a pitcrew with jetwash have an advantage.
