I think you’d find that there is a huge range on “elevated” abilities in the pro peloton and a huge range of “moderate” ability with STW riders. There will be some overlap.
Are you sure she needs to be restricted by 650c wheels?
My GF is the also 5’1″ (and a bit) and has borrowed a friend’s 44cm spesh ruby (700c) and it fits perfectly. She’s now looking at getting one of her own.
I’ve entered male pairs. Won retro pairs last time with a time that would have put us on the podium of male pairs, will be interesting to see what difference a modern bike that fits makes!
either way, really looking forward to it
carbon ceramic brake material needs quite a bit of heat before it works properly, I’m guessing the tub glue would melt or the tyre would burst at those temps.
if it’s early season, so dryish and fast, you’ll probably find 32×16 very low. I used to do the beastway MTB series (similar to cx courses) on 32×14 or 13.
Just to be annoying, the universe is expanding faster than the speed of light. So we may never get there
To be a pedant, current favoured theory is that at some point at the beginning, it did expand faster than the current speed of light but it is not expanding that fast anymore. Either way this is correct:
I weigh 73kg naked and the med spring felt a bit firm over the mega week. Would have preferred the soft spring with the ability to play with the compression settings a bit more.
I raced Brighton Big Dog last year in the rain and the Bonty mud-x I borrowed were ace. Quite a few other racers changed to the same mud-x after starting out on different tyres and the lap times all came down!
grum, deffo check out stratobiker’s hood. He showed me round on lovely day over Easter and it was fantastic. Completely empty rocky, fast natural trails. I loved it even though he nearly killed me on the climbs!
superstar (and I guess MRP) BB mounted guides don’t work very well with road cranks due to the narrower axles (they don’t have the 68->73 spacers) and a larger BCD. I bodged one on my spare bike but it’s not great.
fettling, get yourself down to Hove Park if you want to points chase. Usually the 4ths have about 15 starters and the 2/3s about 25. However in the pissing rain a couple of weeks ago there were 7 and 11 respectively!
I don’t think MTBing alienates women more than any other outdoor sport. I also don’t think having fewer women than men is a detriment to the sport as a whole.
I also find the work your doing on the front. chaingang style stuff were your slightly increasing pace to stay
on a wheel hard to replicate on your tod when out training
I think this is where MTBing comes in, especially singlespeed or 1×9 in a hilly area. It’s almost impossible to plod on a proper MTB ride, I find I’m either trying very hard or trying to recover which is perfect RR or crit training.
