Didn’t look like that when I’ve been there! At least 18months ago admittedly

A voyage company, no? My sister went there last week and said the small and medium lines have been made bigger but still progress nicely.

The ones on northern monkey aren’t really what the OP is looking for. They are wonky, not very steep and have a flat landing off the 3rd! Fine for FS, crap for a DJ

Sorry about the missed info and bad spelling, as you can imagine I’m really really upset and not thinking clearly. Please check all the blog posts and keep an eye.

Goldtec will build you a “buy it now” wheel on one of their track hubs which will accept freewheels. They are strong, roll well and you can choose which axles length you require

E13xcx won’t work very well on a road chainset as they’re not designed to have BB spacers and it so makes the alignment all funny. Superstar do a seat tube mounted jobbie

as above, join a dulwich paragon or addiscombe cc ride, they’re both used to newbs or inexperienced riders.

seriously steep climbs south of croydon include chalk pit lane and succombs hill. plenty around!

“95% of us are living off the state in one way or another” which doesn’t follow and doesn’t appear to be true by that graph.

to be fair, I said my dad used to have a statistic like that. I didn’t say that it was the case which is why I asked the original question.

I looked at this excel sheet link and it seems to only have education, NHS and rail travel subsidy as benefits in kind. What about civil servant wages, army etc. Surely these are vast sums? I have come to the conclusion that that BBC page is crap and doesn’t answer my question satisfactorily. NEXT!

That link is interesting but I agree completely with MSP, I’d like to see a (simple) break down of the calculations and I’m not sure deciles are accurate enough given how much the top end pays. Either way, the earnings to pay your way seem to be a lot lower than I thought.

Rorschach, GP4000s in tub version are seriously underwhelming, not very supple at all . They do grip in the wet though. If you have that kind of budget to play with, check these from planet-x: Corsa SC

be interesting to hear your comparison of your tubeless vs tubs al (albeit with lots of variables)

lighter but harsher? Seems counter intuitive.

not necessarily. Imagine if they were made of a cured carbon fibre tube, rock solid but flipping light! tufos aren’t made in the same way as any other tubs.

Interested as to why you went for tubs but then bought Giros. I’m a huge tub fan but even I’ll admit that good clinchers will be nicer to ride as well as loads less hassle than cheap tubs.

I rode 20 miles each way across London to race 30 miles at Hillingdon most Tuesdays last “summer” on continental sprinters without a problem. I didn’t put any sealant in but had a couple of cans of vittoria pitstop just in case.

Tufos are lighter because of their construction but also harsher losing a great deal of the point of tubs.

surely it depends on your torque curve, gear ratios, where there turbo kicks in etc etc. Probably the speed at which the car still feels comfortable on a soft throttle in top gear

I think you have some punctuation missing there.

    Nope! 😀

I did mean that wheel changes are allowed at most races, ie circuits up to 2 miles (crazy-legs will have to confirm the distance.)

the only real advantage for disc brakes is that you don’t have to wear the rims, which makes alot of sense where carbon is involved.

Thing is, rims on posh track wheels aren’t any lighter than their road equivalents so I don’t see why it will change for road disc rims.

I’ve got a 9T “driver” on my BMX and it feels SO much more gritty than the 13 that was on there before.

or is the whole idea anathema to the hairy chested paradigm?

    <- this.

you want to ride a cross bike, ride a cross bike. If you want to ride an MTB, ride an MTB.

Well they’re the ones likely to be concerned about how long a wheel change takes – if you don’t have support vehicles with spare wheels it’s not really that relevant.

not so. Most races in the UK are 3/4 circuit races and crits where laps out for wheel changes are allowed. Discs would make it take much longer if not impossible to borrow a spectators wheel which happens a lot.

discs will eventually happen on the road though

    head tube weight

seriously? must be 5g and a couple of extra ball bearings which is nothing for your average MTBer. Countering that you have increased stiffness allowing thinner walls. Also, a 1.5 straight tube will be cheaper to produce than a tapered version and the extra money could be used for better materials or better engineered dropouts to regain that weight lost…

Positives of a 1.5 straight are increased stiffness, a greater choice of forks and stems, smoother headsets and/or a great range from an angleset.

wishiwascalledsteve and fourcrossjohn, 1.5 head tubes don’t stop you using a tapered or even 1 1/8th fork and stem if you so choose.

OP I don’t understand what disadvantages straight 1.5 head tubes have either.

    discs.

the only reason not to is if you race and already have lots of canti wheels.

I was thinking of suggesting something similar Jam bo but the MAssif Central instead. It’s closer to Cherbourg and much cheaper than the alps for ski passes and accom and so fits in more with the OP’s Scotland idea. Sancy has 90km of varied terrain that is more enough for a long weekend

Our ladies managed ok because they’re based out in Belgium, so I guess they weren’t staying at the team hotel.

only OK?! Nikki Harris had a fantastic ride for 6th, getting involved with the group racing or 2nd for a lot of the race.
