Easier in the UK? Really? Somehow I think the mass-production experts in Taiwan will have a better chance of hitting the qual specs, within budget, than anyone in the UK would

if I don’t claim in a year I get 1 year. If I do I lose two?! WTF?

NCD is a privilege, not a right. Those are the rules – deal with it.

……but we’ll still charge more if you do crash anyway

you plough you’re car into someone/thing you become a higher risk, hence higher premium – this has nothing at all to do with NCD

it’s the 4wd bit that will be tricky. The economic estate is easy, same size(ish) as the Astra? Focus TDCi’s seem to refuse to drink fuel, even our abused ones in work still return about 55mpg

You sure about that? As far as I was aware Elephant/Admiral/Diamond (all the same folk) all work with 5 as the ‘real’ max too (even though you can put more on the quote/policy)

http://www.elephant.co.uk/policyDocs/EL51%201010%20Policy%20Booklet.pdf this seems to backup my theory

again, read the thread. the issue is that he’s not heard a thing from the seller, not that the goods haven’t arrived

yeah but you don’t know who from, which is the important bit :)

I’ll give him until a couple of days into the new year, then see what’s what

I bent a sprocket within half an hour of riding the only one I’ve ever had (6 years ago)….. however I’m about to start using another one so you’ll no doubt hear if it goes wrong!

    thread bump/hijack

got a set of Red Metal 5s on the way and i’m concerned about the centre lock issue. i had to get new rotors anyway so just went for centre lock ones, what concerns me is that the manual for the wheels talks about using some Campag tool to mount the lock-ring?? tell me it isn’t so…..please

Any Jaguar with a crazy big V12 (the old XJS, or the mean saloon my mate had with the menacing grill and about 15 turbos fitted to it).

    like this one? :)

I’d add the Escort RS2000 4×4 to the list, limited numbers, tricky to find unmolested ones and so rare I’m struggling to even get a decent photo!

Couple of people have mentioned the RX7, anyone know if a rotary engine can be converted to run on LPG?

given the lack of lubricating properties in LPG I’d be doubtful of it’s suitability in a rotary setup

direct line told me ANY optional extras are mods. so cruise control fitted in factory = mod.
anything different to the basic car is what i was told.

yup. but unofficially it’s really a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ type scenario. All the guys on the phone know that pushing to add mods will p*ss the customer off and turn them away. It is daft really, if I get heated seats am I really a bigger risk??

fair play. if you go to glencoe in the morning you can get money back for your pass if you’re off the hill by half 12* – that might be your best bet if it’s ropey

*i think it’s half 12, better ask though

Cairngorm or Glenshee would be a better bet – likely to be proper busy though!

on the mods note……(I used to work for DL many moons ago) a modification is/was classed as anything not on the original spec – so if they want to be @rsey then optional extras are mods. Now, I would never declare a panoramic roof or optional alloys or the like, but that’s not to say that it’s not technically fraud (in the most minor sense of the word).

I heard some interesting arguements in my time with policy holders dropping things like “I went for the bigger wheels” into a conversation, the price then jumps 10% and everyone gets a tad upset!

Whats the fit of these like?

quite roomy around the toes, but neater elsewhere. Haven’t met anyone that can’t get a size to fit, so wouldn’t be too worried

depends on the bike, I usually go for the top tube instead. If you’ve got the cables mounted along the top tube this wont work so well, and you’ve also got to be careful not to crush the tube by mistake! (did once, wont do again!)

Monsters has had some good reviews.

if you liked Cloverfield, but wish it only had a 1/10th of the action, Monsters will be right up your street! Could’ve been so much better imo

I see the SS website isn’t exactly helpful!

Do you sandwich the disc between the 2 parts of the adapter? That’s the only thing I could see half working from this photo:

Did you change the top hats without changing the DU bush? If so I would get these changed out too as they should always wear out faster than the top hats (the DU bush is supposed to be the sacrificial part).

There’s always some play in the mounting bolts when they are loose, otherwise they’d be an absolute mare to install!
