M&S quoted me £650 to renew, fresh quote came out at £450, swinton did it for £268. Go figure.

Did Swinton iclude bike insurance as that’s why most guys who use M&S buy it, add on bike insurance is very expensive.

anyone know if an iPhone is coverd under M&S?

public footpath is not a ROW for bikes so be cautious when reporting this as they may well give you a hard time if they realise you were on a bike! :-)

Dislocated arm, A/C joint and ‘shattered’ my shoulder blade about 12 years ago. Had extensive physio and was back on the bike after 12 weeks. 2 years ago the constant pain and lack of movement, despite twice monthly physio and stretching exercises, I gave in and consulted a surgeon (shoulder specialist). He did an MRI and discoverd that my A/C joint was re-fracctured and had been for some time (at least 2 years in his opinon).

Long story short I had the A/C joint removed and was back on the bike in 6 weeks and now I hardly notice it at all.

Get it checked I had a seatpost with ‘copsmetic’ damage that then failed and the shards of carbon were razor sharp!

    Dry weather = Vaseline
Wet weather = Johnson’s baby oil

    Sore after = Sudocream

Used this for 25 (cough) years and it’s always worked for me YMMV

We have a 5 year old son so we have a schedule:

    Me
Commute between 17 – 34 miles a day four times a week, night ride with very fit riding buddy and one 3hr weekend ride

    Wifey
Runs 3 times a week (once with a fitter running partner) and arobics class one night a week.

When wifey’s out I’m in and vice versa.

We have one day in the working week where we are both in and spend the time together, and we operate as a family unit at the weekend.

Sounds very modern when you write it out :-)

BTW Commuting is not like real riding but having just had 6 weeks off the bike it’s really good to be back on a bike even if it’s just getting to and from work!

Yes, down the Avenue in Southampton on a fully faired, long wheelbase, under-seat steering recumbent….!

That’s impressive which part of the Avenue? Isn’t it a 40 limit so the gatso goes off at 45ish? Or is there a 30 limit along there? I don’t get past the Cowherds so I’m not sure on the limit further into town. :D

    1. 18 of last 25
    2. 1 – Hit by a car during a time trial – broken elbow, chipped pelvis and 32 stitches in arm after removal of part of the car’s wing mirrow.
    3. 2 – once when stationary at a red light, second when hit by car overtakeing on a pelican crossing (watched by a bobby on the beat!) to discov er someone crossing hence I was going “too slowly”!

Way more off road injuries before I realised I’m never going to be anything but clumsy on a bike!

I’ve been very lucky to drive some fun cars:

Mini Cooper (original) ex-works racer (track only)
    Renault Clio Williams (original one)
Porche 930 (Turbo) ex-works racer (track only) (400BHP!)
BMW M3 Left-hand drive original version
    BMW M3 E36 modified to 340 BHP

Sadly serious illness meant my business suffered, then I got married and has a son, now drive a bogo standard Mondeo

Nicest is difficult either the Clio Wiliams or the LHD M3

I have been stopped on a private estate road, but that is classified as a public footpath. I was told to get off and walk after a very confrontational approach by a couple of guys that looked like Chips and Poncho. That was a decade ago. The law is the law, even when it’s an ass!

Even if it’s private land they can only ask you to leave their land and even then they can not assualt you except in self defence. Also they can’t demand you leave by a specific route and any damage to you or your property would be claimable in the small claims court.

Had a farmer point a shotgun at me once on a clearly marked bridleway (in mid-Wales) so I reported it to the local plod and he told me the guy was always doing it. Eventually he did it to a group of walkers one of whom made a citizen’s arrest! Turns out that the 10 metres between one gate on the bridleway and the next was actually over his land and wasn’t technically a bridleway! The judge decided that the gap was permissible by anyone using the bridleway and the farmer got a big fine and his shotgun licence revoked!

Sometimes the law is not a complete ass!

If you were assaulted surley the police ‘must’ follow it up?

    ‘must’ probably = ‘will not’

I bet if you’d injured one of them the boys in blue would be charging you!

It’s a messed up world, hope you get better soon.

I use Hope Hoops XC3s which are lightweight but have stayed true for well over a year of hard riding.

I don’t do big jumps etc but I’m not know as a delicate rider (described as ‘a clumsy oaf’ by riding buddies) and I’ve had no problems running them on my Stumpy FS (120 mm travel)

Broke my shoulder 12 years ago put up with pain until 2 years ago, had my A/C joint removed and took it easy on the recovery and now I’m riding more than ever before. Don’t give up just give yourself a good recovery period and do what the doctor says!

BTW I’m 44 so I take longer to heal/recover but that’s just life!
    Good luck.

I had a Exposure Joystick which went back twice and only worked for 11 days of the 8 weeks I had it! Most of the tiem i was waiting for Exposure to send them back!

I replaced it (well upgraded) to the Hope Vision 2 LED and they are great. No reliability problems using them 5 days a week. Thinking of adding a Hope Vision 4 LED for next winter so I”l have abr and helmet mounted lights.

I’m up for this provided the small op I’ve just had on my leg is fully healed and I’ve managed to spin the pedals a bit before hand.

Just seems like a lever squeezing fluid through a tube and forcing pistons together with no special ‘modulation’ valves to speak of.

But it’s still subject tot he laws of pyhsics so initially the fluid compresses more until it reaches a point where I can not compress further, this would create the feeling of modulation. Also there’s bound to be some effect of the pads hitting the discs and the energy transfer.

I’m not a physics buff but modulation seems to be a fairly likly outcome of the forces in a braking system.

Having a leg op on Monday, surgeon has told me to take 4 weeks off riding and that if I don’t it could take 12 weeks to fix!

I’ll be good and miss 4 weeks of spring rather than most of spring and summer!

they don’t come inbuilt with refund options, the people that code them tend to think everything runs perfect.

Being a professional web developer I’d point out that bad programmers do this, good programmers think a bit further ahead. :-)

Often it’s because the person (usually credit controller) who can refund is too busy to do so and if it’s an online account it’s usual that the credit card processor (WordldpAy etc.) don’t credit the card back for at least 24 hours AFTER the refund has been requested.
I agree you’ve had poor service but I suspect on-one’s ecommerce ‘application’ is not particulary sophisticated these e-commerce ssytems very from very very good to very poor IMHO :-)

Oddly some drugs that are taken by IV do indeed cause a taste reaction, I know this to be true from experience.

    From http://www.chemocare.com/managing/taste_changes.asp

    * Taste changes are common during chemotherapy. The exact reason for taste changes is not clear, although it is thought that it is a result of the damage to the cells in the oral cavity, which are especially sensitive to chemotherapy.
    * About 50% of patients getting chemotherapy experience taste changes.
    * Drugs most commonly associated with taste changes include carboplatin, cisplatin, cyclophosphamide, dacarbazine, dactinomycin, doxorubicin, 5-fluorouracil, levamisole, mechlorethamine, methotrexate, paclitaxel, and vincristine.
    * Most people report taste changes involving a lower threshold for bitter tastes and a higher threshold for sweet tastes.
    * Some drugs also produce a metal taste during the actual intravenous infusion. These include nitrogen mustard, vincristine, cisplatin, and cyclophosphamide.
    * In addition, the association between taste of food and chemotheraphy may lead to taste changes. Chemotherapy loss of sense of taste can occur purely from the association of an experience of nausea and vomiting with chemotherapy.
    * Taste changes may occur during therapy and last for hours, days, weeks, or even months after chemotherapy.
    * Taste changes are also common in people taking biologic therapies such as interleukin-2, and interferons. Most people report taste changes involving a decreased threshold for spicy foods, describing most food as bland, bitter, like chemicals or medicine. Both the cause and duration of taste changes associated with biologic therapy is unclear.

If you buy the Volvo don’t forget that that automatically makes you a safe driver and you can therefore ignore the road traffic act completley! :-)
