Just liked the look of the stream :-)

I have relatives in Stratford-Upon-Avon where there are more than enough swans to go around! :-)

BTW C_G thanks for the Winchester ride GPX it worked fine in Tracklogs, nice route!

I knew mine was a 'reasonable' injury because the the triage nurse looked down the front of my riding jersey and said "Looks OK", looked down the side of my riding jersey and said "Looks OK", looked down the back of my riding jersey and said "That's really really nasty"! Also the 4 hours plus wait to be seen came down to 10 minutes and I was out with an appointment for the fracture clinic in just over 45 minutes!

Dislocated shoulder, dislocated clavicle, shattered shoulder blade, torn ligaments, concussion and a crushed vertebra.

12 years after the initial injury I found out I'd also fractured the A/C joint but it was missed so I then had the A/C joint and 10mm of clavicle removed which has left me with an arm that works and doesn't hurt all the time.

    I second this:

The exclusivity clauses are very rarely enforceable.

When I was made redundant I checked this out and as your employer is effectively ceasing your contract the terms of the contract can't be enforced. The only point to watch out for is if you approach previous customers and your employer can PROVE that you did so using information or data from your previous employment. In this day and age with the interweb the details we're talking about are easily found so it's unlikely they'd win a court case.

    Go for it.

    1984 I was crashing bikes…

… oh that applies to any year after 1980!

Ridden with carbon bars for years – more than 10 and never had a problem. Had a set of mid-weight alloy bars that I cracked near the brake lever in a slow speed crash but I think it was because my body acted as a large lever and the forces were much greater as a consequence.

In my experience it's not always the big, smacking a rock crash that does the damage.

It's common assault and even if he has 'problems' it's the police's job to decide what action to take if any, I'd report him.

Without scaremongering that fact that it was only a mild punch this time doesn't mean he's not going to progress.

Hi-viz gillet for me, get a lightweight no frills one and you'll hardly notice you're wearing it but you'll be visible (*START OF RANT* well more visible some car drivers seem to be blind to anything however bright *END OF RANT*)

Mind you anyone who knows me knows that I'm mechanically useless (and that's being generous) so it's a bit of a case of the kettle and a black pot or something…

    HI CG

Sadly no exercise, I've been having issues with balance and it's looking like I'll need some fairly nasty sounding surgery to correct. Assuming that the scan I'm having on Monday shows that the mass causing the problems is operable. so far it doesn't look 'sinister' (Docs words) but as it's growing and pushing on something that is causing my inner ear to misbehave it needs removing.

Not allowed to do anything on my own – in case I have a blackout – and nothing that involves any 'significant' movement of my head so biking, running and swimming are out.

Had a mate change a tube and then started riding off towards a fast downhill, that ends in a 90 degree corner, before we reminded him to reconnect his v-brake cable.

Same mate is trying to find the hole in his tube but every time he added a patch it was still hissing – in fact one of the other guys was stood behind him making a highly convincing hissing sound!

Thanks CG just waiting to find out how long before they can fix me, looking like my summer riding's shot though! Enjoy the ride and put the route up if possible so I can do it in the winter/next year!

I had the same issue with my Mondeo which required the key to be turned 7 times and then turned off after the beeps stopped, I'm guessing Google is your friend to find the right sequence.

A friend had the same with his Mondeo and the Ford garage charged him £70 and then 're-programmed' his key, lucky for him it's a company car!

I was hoping to join in but sadly the Doc says "No" so I hope you all have a good one and maybe next time…

Don't the rims/tyres need to be within the wheel arches, i.e not protruding?

    Hi CP

Yes it's a bit of a pain but riding 5 days a week doing 30 – 50 miles a day on road soon gets the crap building up all over the bike.

I've got XT V's on my TriCross and I found that you need to remove the brake, clean the post (on the fork/frame), clean the brake mount and then add a small (very small) amount of grease.

I do ride my TriCross in all weathers and mostly on road so I find you get a lot of crap on the posts over a fairly short period of time, I clean mine about every 8 weeks or so.

    Hi oldgit

Good point about low pulse rates but the key is if you notice a big change (up or down) which you can't account for (i.e. if you're riding more and you're getting fitter your RHR 'usually' drops). I've always had a low RHR even when unfit but when I'm at peak fitness (or what passes for it) my RHR doesn't change much maybe 2 – 4 beats so it's very individual I think.

Measured whilst watching TV last night, sat on the floor with my back against the sofa (so body/legs in L shape) and I got 52 BPM which rose to 56 BPM when I walked up stairs.

Last time I did a 'proper' just woken up test it was 44BPM.

I'm 45 and I love it when a doctor or nurse take my pulse and then take it again because they think it's too low!

Having had a fair bit of surgery I once set off the 'low' setting after an op because the machine recorded my heart rate as 39 BPM!

I do a weekly night ride of around 2.5 hours, a weekend ride of 2 -3 hours.

I used to do 1.5 hours commuting 5 days a week but am now self-employed and working from home (well currently NOT working as I'm reading forums :-))so I occasionally get 1 x 1 hour ride in but only every other week or so.

I never thought I'd miss commuting!

I always think the "I don't use it off road' thing is a bit of a red herring, sure hitting the ground/rock/tree is no fun if it does break big time BUT if it goes on the road what about all those cars/buses/taxis/tin boxes?

    Just a thought :-)

The NHS – people moan, but boy, when they turn it on they shine.

I can only agree, I've had cancer twice and without the excellent NHS treatment I received I wouldn't be here to type this!

The best part of the NHS is the people the worst part is the never ending battle they have to find enough money to treat everyone!

    All IMHO of course :-)

During the winter I clean my bike after most rides and in the summer once every 3 or 4 rides.

One benefit is you get to look at the bike and components and I have in the past found stuff that needs attention under the grime.

I had a mate who wouldn't ride if it was wet or muddy which always struck me as odd, some of my best rides in the last year have involved uncontrollable sliding in mud followed by uncontrollable laughter while I lie in the mud!
