I clamp my Reverb in my Park stand, am i going to wreck it?

If you don’t hand it back but keep it is any damage irrelevant?

I run my almost all year round, it’s really only a few weeks in summer where my night rides don’t need any ‘real’ lights. I charge my MaxxD and Diablo on the morning of a night ride and have never had any issues.

Recently been through just this, had a big enough hole that it wouldn’t seal, got Weldtite kit out but realised it was too dark to see the hole properly (have good helmet light but wear contacts which don’t give good close vision) so I chucked a tube in which slow punctured but got me home.

Used the Weldtite kit the next day (glasses on and in the garage) and it worked a treat, next time I’d have more confidence with using it trailside. Also realised that my tyre had almost no liquid sealant left in it so wasn’t going to seal anything but a tiny hole! Added sealant and it’s now sealed nicely with the Weldtite anchovy staying in as a permanent fix.

Think I’ll carry some cotton wool and a slime tube in future as having this happen again locally isn’t too bad but on a big day in the mountains it might have been less fun!

Injury wise it’s between the shattered shoulder blade I had 20 years ago or the fractured neck I did 2 years ago, first 100% my fault 2nd RTA and 100% not my fault!

Illness wise testicular cancer which in itself wasn’t that bad treatment wise but the infection I got that left me with a wrecked liver, kidneys and lungs was hard to cope with. Over time my liver and kidneys got much better and are not an issue now but permanently having an ~ 40% loss in lung efficiency has been hard to live with especially when trying to drag my heavy arse up hills!

FWIW we spent a fortune 14 years ago and on our 2nd attempt we were successfully and now have a 12 year old so consider ourselves very lucky. Back then there was no funding and the drugs were even more expensive we spent well over £10k for our two attempts.

My advice would be to try and minimise any stress so if finding cheaper drugs helps with that go for it otherwise I think you just have to accept it’s an expensive process.

Not sure how helpful that is but good luck to you.

I have a RockShox Reverb 125 Stealth, 30.9 X 380mm Very good condition, left hand lever and will need a minor bleed due to removing it from the frame. Came off my Whyte T-130 Works and has only been used for ~200 miles. Make me a sensible offer via email (in profile) if you’re interested.

My Hope S/S one has lasted 3 years, last time I stripped it to swap the bearings out they were actually like new so I’ve pu it back together and it seems fine.

My Roam 40s haven’t got the same issue but I think it’s just the seal not being engaged as others have said, I think the cassette is secured via either an allen key or a torx key that unlocks via the centre of the cassette. Sounds odd when I write it down so I might have dreamt that!

Indeed but then it’s a bit pointless asking about helmet lights if the budget is for a cheap supermarket torch?

What’s your budget? Joysticks seem to be around £125 (based on a quick Google), I have a Diablo which seems to be around £180. Depends on how much light you need/want and how many £ you want to spend.

After a few rides you just get used to it and realise how much easier/neater it is having only one shifter to worry about.

We did it in early June with good weather and it looked like it would cope well with lots of rain surface wise BUT it’s quite exposed, especially the main climb, so I’d be prepared for a long, cold and wet day.

Good ride BTW although not one I’d rush back and do again as once I’ve done a classic I try and find a different one to do.

I run a Minion Dhf on the front and an Ardent on the rear and they’ve been faultless. Will switch to Shorty front and Minion Dhf on the rear when the mud sets in. Had a flint make a small hole that wouldn’t seal in the Ardent but stuck in a anchovy type thingy and it’s all good now. Live near Winchester so not rocky but very rooty in places with a few tracks that are littered with sharp flints, my previous contis puncture and torn so swapped to Maxxis. HTH

Post on social media about how this affected your daughter (assuming it did scare her?), report to the company and police.

I have a Hope District which is heavy, has an external battery but is incredibly bright.

I use it on the road bike as I really want to be seen on the road but it’s way to bright if anyone’s following you so I don’t use it off road.

Changed my first X1 chain at .75 wear after 650 miles, cassette still OK after another 200 miles and jockey wheels look OK. I suspect it’ll wear more in winter when the clay based mud attaches itself to the drivetrain.

Seems very much a toys and pram jobbie to me, when they were winning and dominant they blocked every rule change now they are losing they are blaming everyone else whilst asking for help – good luck with that! Adrian Newey may be brilliant but he’s no idea how to build real long lasting relationships with suppliers hence no-one wants to supply him with the latest tech.

Last night’s solo ride started at 6:30 so not quite dark but not far off. Saw a badger, 2 mink, a weasel and 3 owls. normally see deer as well but not last night maybe I was making too much noise!

I’m running Hope Tech E4 on my Whyte T-130 Works and they are just about perfect, I swapped out the Guide RS as they just didn’t ‘feel’ right. I’ve ridden with Hope brakes since the time when C2s were cutting edge so basically I just like them.

I sold my Guide RS to a mate who’s cheap Avid’s had died and he loves them.

Not seen any axemen but the odd poacher with a shotgun is not uncommon around our way :-)

I night ride twice a week, Monday is a solo ~25 mile mostly off-road and Weds is a group ride normally 2 – 5 of us.

Obviously there’s more risk when riding on solo at night but that’s part of the appeal.

I have a Garmin so use LiveTrack which my wife very rarely remembers to check :-)

I really like the whole just me, the bike and the night thing as it’s a really good stress reliever. I equally like riding with a group of like minded mates and the Weds night ride ends at the pub!

I’ve currently got two bulged discs at C5-C6 but not pressing into my spinal chord. I have some symptoms which revolve around my left arm and the nerves being squeezed. Having physio every 3 weeks and looking at ~ 6 months more to strengthen the neck and reduce the pressure on the nerves.

If you’ve got a bulged disc I’m fairly sure you’d have symptoms and you should get it checked out. HTH

Not ideal as I was guiding in wales the following weekend and actually had a (fortunately slow speed) off which resulted in no more damage. Having physio now to help with nerve damage from bulging discs. Medics face was a picture when he realised saying ‘your fractured vertebra has healed nicely” was the first I’d heard of it being fractured!

Still think the NHS is excellent and mistakes happen, luckily I got away with it this time :-)

    Hope you heal soon.

You were lucky to get a call back I rode for 18 months after A&E missed 2 ruptured discs in my neck and a fracture to one of my vertebra. Only came to light when i had an MRI to discover why my hand had stopped working!

I used to ride to the gym do a double class and then ride home, I never felt like I’d not done enough :-)

I used to try and ‘beat’ the instructor which was hard when they swapped to a new instructor for the 2nd class.

Moved away from the job I was doing and couldn’t get to the same classes, would love to find the time to do a couple of classes a week but prioritise MTB rides 2 x a week instead, the joy of being 50, employed and having a family I guess :-)

My 2015 T-130 Works is great and is a bit lighter than the RS at 13KG, it rides really well with a light poppy feel. It does everything well IMHO the only thing I think might be an issue is very big drops (6ft +) but I don’t really do them so not really sure if it’ll handle them OK?

I’m running a 32T oval front ring and it’s fine i got up nearly everything I wanted to in mid-Wlaes in June and the only stuff I didn’t manage neither did my buddies on their HTs which are ~2KG lighter so I think it climbs well.

If you’re riding through trees then definitely go for a bar and lid conbo. Alos i have the lanyard for my Diablo which has saved me losing it a couple of times over the last year or so :-)

I use a MaxxD ion the bars with a remote switch and a Diablo on my helmet with a spare battery as run at full the Diablo on last 1 hour.

Brackets are very sturdy and easy to use.

I’ve also got Hope lights and overall I prefer the Exposure ones as they don’t have separate battery packs, despite the irony of having a spare battery ziptied to my helmet!

Lots of good big routes on the door step and not that far from either the Elan Valley, Builth Wells, Llandrindod Wells and if you head south it’s not to far to Bike Park Wales etc so pretty good for riding, might be a bit sleepy but I don’t know Herford that well so maybe a similar vibe? HTH

As I looked at this I realised that predictably I’m a typical STWer:

Hope – been buying their stuff for > 15 years.
USE/Exposure – have 2 sets of lights and love them
Whyte – Have a T-130 Works which I love riding
Endura – sizing issue hasn’t really bothered me and the stuff they make is very durable
Middleburn – used to really rate their cranks but they seem to ahve all but disapeared

    MTB FS – Tubeless
    MTB HT – Tube
    Road – Tube

Thinking of going Tubeless on the HT but don’t ride the road bike enough to bother.

@glasgowdan Which Roam wheels/size have you looked at? My Roam 40s have been fine and I’m not alight rider. In fact I have a brand new set, 650b, that came with an insurance replacement for my Whyte T-130 Works if you’re interested?

Had mine since May 2015, long story but it’s my 2nd one, and I’m still loving it.

Great bike very capable at trail centres but even better for just riding my local (Winchester) trails on. Did 4 days in Mid-Wales in june and it was everything you could need this side of a DH bike.

I’ve changed the brakes to Hope E4s and the tyres are currently Ardent rear and Minion front, soon to be minion rear and Shorty front if the mud gets worse!
