Future proofing with mtb’s sounds like wishful thinking to me. I don’t know what budget your on. Mine is not much, at all, so I stay well back from the cutting edge.

I’ve got 456 evo with 4pot XTs and Hope/D521 wheels (both ancient), Z1 SL forks, 27 gears and a dropper that does nearly everything I need. I put the whole thing together for £350ish, it’s hard to work out as I had some bits, swapped others etc.

Yes my friends have full sus bikes that weigh less and are certainly more capable but the cost, the cost. Oh and I can usually keep up with them.

I also have a mini disc player..

Probably three years ago now I yarned to some cold calling Jehovah’s witnesses and ever since they’ve come round every month for an hour or so, cup of tea etc. even though they know I’m not going to join. They were quite put out that “their kind” were some of the first rounded up by the Nazi’s but don’t get mentioned. “Those glory seeking Jews” she said..

The last fisticuffs I engaged in was when I saw a chap beating someone else’s dog with a golf club and, shamefully, lost my temper. Turns out he was an off-duty copper.. He could have got in a lot worse trouble than a savage beating if only I’d kept my cool and given the authorities the video my missus took. But being honest with myself I think if I saw the same thing happening tomorrow I’d still kick off.

I don’t watch many serieses(?) but The Shield was pretty good. It didn’t seem to let up all the way through and didn’t descend into silly side stories.

It’s worth watching the whole thing. Puts the end in context, sort of.

“We must comport ourselves with valour,
and we must resist the climate,
Who the **** decided to have a war in April?”

I don’t think they’ll be allowed to fail but they’re paying out huge amounts in fines etc. and something has to give. Customer service is usually one of the first things to suffer.

I quite like VWs, I’ve had several and currently own two but I wouldn’t touch a new one.

I wouldn’t buy anything from a company that’s so far up the creek. You’re going to be relying on them for recalls, warranty, servicing etc. and I think the risk of being left flapping in the breeze is too high.

It’s actually a lack of power which often knackers drivers. As the amp starts to run out of puff it can’t properly control the coil and cone letting it flap and be damaged.

It probably didn’t make your glue fail though.

My Dad has a Wharfedale/Lenco setup he bought new in the early 70’s. He said he packed it away when I got old enough to climb on stuff and didn’t get it out again until my youngest brother could be trusted around it. I argue that he still can’t be at 28..

    I’ve so much to learn.

Such as the existence of a scotch egg with black pudding mixed in with the meat, rich doesn’t come close..

I had an old Philips amp with a handy “lift” control. It seemed to be basically a variable loudness function. It wasn’t high end kit by any means but worked as a workshop amp.

Currently running a Marantz 2226b from about 1977 with tone, balance, hi filter and loudness controls, that seems to be considered hi-fi.

It’s sobering. A good friend of mine died on a main road just 5 minutes from mine that I use every week, it all seems a bit more real then doesn’t it?

The cat’s “voice” in that video had my cat all alert and suspicious. I didn’t think it was that realistic but she must have thought otherwise.

How about a little background on our cats names?
Mines is Tiki. I struggled for weeks for a name that fitted her. Then one day I smelt burning hair and found her smoldering away having climbed over a lit candle. I told her she was lucky I smelled it ‘cos she could’ve gone up like a tiki torch. It stuck.

It’s never easy. Every time I say “that’s it, I don’t want anymore pets only to lose them” but the joy always outweighs the pain.

I’m currently a bottle and a bit of wine (don’t usually drink the stuff but got turned down for a job today and it was hiding in the cupboard) anda big ol’ glass f rum down. And although it’s not something I do often I feel like anything more than a refreshing beer without getting wobbly seems like a waste.

I do like a drink, stopped smoking da erb years back as it just didn’t agree anymore. The drink has worse health wotnots but I get to functionproperly and still partake.

++ Typos are not due to drink but a dodgy keyboard,I spilt beeron it theother week

Yeah I can just imagine telling them the requirements. Especially face to face, as it were.

Just for the sake of being graphic; Is it the sack itself that’s the problem or just behind it?

I’m 6’2 and love thrashing my little 5″ travel hardtail on 24s with 3″ front and 2.6″ rear tyres. A miniature fatbike, sort of.

I reckon a 26″ bike would be a bit much for him, especially if it had the modern “long” geometry.

Someone told me YODEL stands for Your Order Delivered Early or Late. I said they should at least leave out the E, and maybe add some others, like C for example.

Yes, the irony was not lost on any of us.

We got back to the lovely, well made path and were passed by a bloke doing the last leg of a 70km ride, he looked pretty clean and dry.

Yeah we were up on Dartmoor last week and stupidly went off across the open moorland. After pushing for a couple of miles uphill through bogs and ankle deep mud my brother turned round, looked back at Burrator lake and said “If you were stood here and someone suggested a nice little walk down to that lake you’d tell ’em to go f=== themselves wouldn’t you?” Yep, I would of.

    Is this what you want?

It is all a bit plastic isn’t it?

    Though I like the quote from Hans Ray(sic) on their site;

I think there is a great potential for such facilities, especially in parts of the world like the UK where the winters seem rather long.

    Yes they do..

Cardinham seems to stay pretty mud free, it’s all pine forest. But on the flip side it’s slippery like ice, I can find more grip in muddy, rooty stuff than there after a light shower.

I still haven’t forgiven Honda for that DH bike gearbox business, I felt cheated.

Appliances are getting crapper and crapper. The cheapest line of Bosch washers are now made in Turkey alongside Beko’s and they’re no better built. Hoover/Candy make probably the shittest machines I’ve seen.

The problem is that most are made to be either difficult or near impossible to repair. In fact for a lot of the really low end stuff you can’t even buy spares, they’re just not available and never were.

Is pretty disgusting that stuff is made so poorly because of all the resources spent doing so. If a machine lasted 20 years it would cause far less pollution than making, moving and scrapping the 3 or 4 rubbish ones needed to last as long.

But the manufacturers stick a cute little green leaf and “eco” on the front panel and gullible people believe they’re saving the planet when actually they’re just buying next years landfill.

DPM = camouflage pattern, not the fabric. DPM can be in many different materials.

For British stuff you want to look for MVP (Moisture Vapour Permeable), that’s the Goretex type material. The 95 pattern over trousers come in two, maybe more, types. One has an elastic waist and hems, the others are fitted but have popper straps on the waist for adjustment, they’re great but you still have to be accurate with sizing.

For jackets I actually prefer the 80’s German flecktarn version, they have pockets.

Looking at a grave situation and imagining yourself being chucked straight into it is pretty daunting. But if you were born into it or things were going south gradually I think you would handle it better.

I’ve ruined situations that I won’t stand for where other people would keep their heads down and make something out of it. In the relatively normal, hum-drum life I lead it’s not usually the best way but that’s just me. I’d rather be a bit more patient to be honest.

I watched the remake of Total Recall with him outta In Bruges and whats her name from Van Helsing. At the start Quaid wakes up in bed after a dream and the missus asks what it was about. I kept saying “Mars” in my worst Arnie voice, but no, no Mars, no Johnny cab, no mutants. Just three tits and some implanted memories, I wish I’d just watched the original instead.

Years back I used to leave the radio on at night and one night I dreamt of a lake in the desert, looked like Morocco, with someone tied to a buoy getting shot with arrows by someone on land, odd but no more so than normal.Later in the day was a story on the same radio station about someone going postal with a bow and arrows, I guess it had been on during the night and crept into my brain.

The Atomic Bitchwax. Can be a bit twiddly sometimes but you can actually listen to it if you know what I mean.
