Have X01 Eagle on my new bike, not done any serious riding ride as there was a horrendous creaking coming from the back end, have checked it and have put it down to cassette/freehub somewhere :/ I’ve smoothered the interface between cassette/freehub with grease and and gone through pretty much everything on the back end of the bike (freehub strip-down aside) and while better it’s still there under high loads in certain cogs towards the top of the cassette as it only seems to affect the biggest 4/5 gears. Really can’t put my finger on it, am gettting the frame taped this week hopefully so will perhaps test it out for real at the weekend and perhaps it’ll wear in but either way it’s not great and if all else fails perhaps the hub needs a strip down. hoping I’m not going to have to get it sorted under warranty. Shifting wise it feels great though, first time owning SRAM (have ridden hundreds of times though) I was tempted to strip it all off and go for Shimano but I’ll stick with it and wee how it goes.

2 pairs and neither have had the issues with the sole. the standard footbed isn’t the best but I like them.

My kinesis Xc120 frame, worth **** all and just have so many good memories with that bike, frame is ready to one day hang in the man cave. Wish I’d kept my Mojo HD frame for the same reason :(

Warranty is always a 3-4 weeks at least jobby. The bike shop can chase up all it likes but at the end of the day they’re the middleman between you and the supplier and it’s up to the supplier to send them the frame. I’ve never really understood why people think bike shops are wasting time with warranty, these things aren’t solved overnight, especially this time of year.

Just sold my BFe and currently selling my Foxy to fund a T130c RS, though on paper the Flare looks very tempting, would love to get a test ride of the Flare, Flare Max and T130 back to back. I loved the T130C Works I rode earlier this year, it just felt so much more alive than others I’ve ridden, very playful, fun but didn’t feel like I was under-biked, just felt right. I loved my BFe, gorgeous bike, but it was way to small for me and felt a little dated and I just didn’t ride it enough because of the size. Aside from that though (and the paint not being the best) it was an awesome bike to ride and I’m sure the Flare will equally as good. Overall though I think it’s hard to beat the T130, the Flare would have to be unbelievably good to justify the extra expensive for me.

Had a Datum 10 since January and absolutely loving it! I’ve done mainly road miles on mine but have done a few gravel tracks and fire roads, even did a full lap of the blue at llandegla! It’s a great bike, comfy, fast and while it is a bit more expensive than some rivals I think it’s worth it, the quality ride of the frame shines through much more than some spangly components.

Size wise Genesis changed their sizing for this year, going from offering 6 frame sizes to 5. I usually ride a 56cm frame so went for a medium Datum, so effectively went “down” a size from what I would normally ride if speaking in terms of s, m, l etc. You’d probably be alright on either the extra small (52cm) or small (54cm) depends how compact you want it to feel. Awesome bikes though, I’m absolutely chuffed with mine!

Poor service from the shop by the sounds of it. I always ask customers in the LBS I work in if there is anything at all they’re not sure on, no matter who silly a question it may be. They should also have roughly set up the suspension for you, anything after that is experimentation. Wheels will have tubes in, no new bike will be setup tubeless unless the shop specifically does so. A bike could be sat in a warehouse for months, by which time any sealant will dry out.

Should be filtering onto the site in the next few weeks, got my order in for a 2017 T130C RS yesterday, can’t wait!! :D

Summit was my LBS during my 3 years at uni in Aberystwyth, and they never let me down. Always super helpful and put up with several issues of mine which were in no way related to them, but every time they helped me out. Nice that supported the uni club as well, 10% off pretty much everything and helped with events and so on. Went back about 18 months after I graduated and managed to find a Magic Mary on the shelf, no where had them in stock, couldn’t one through the LBS I work in now so was chuffed to find it after near as damn it 3 months of looking. Was happy to pay full RRP in the circumstances and give a little back for the times they helped me. Still gave me my 10% uni club discount, which I simply refused. Those guys deserve all the credit I’m sure they already get and then some and the newly refurbished shop looks the business as well!

Thanks all, thinking I’ll have little to worry about by the sounds of it, the frames seem spot on and that’s the main thing, will be ordering next week :D

Thanks all for the feedback, sounds like they’re pretty robust! Liking my current bike but want something a little livelier, shorter travel and the lifetime warranty on the bearings and threaded BB are a huge plus point over my current bike and it’s press fit BB, think I’m gonna go for it! :D

Well, I’m going to have to get the Carbon RS, it’s got the lot!

    lawman91

You wouldn’t be disappointed with either. Own a Foxy carbon and it’s ace, super, scarily stable in the rough and it pedals and climbs very well. Ridden a T130 and it’s equally as good, perhaps slightly less stable and more agile but still a hoot to ride. I am tempted by the T130 as my next bike, my Foxy is set up with a 160mm fork and quite a burly build so thinking a shorter travel bike like the T130 might suit me a smidge better, but both are superb as I say!

I don’t see why they would though as seat tube nowadays have next to no relevance to terms of sizing when compact geometry is taken into account. All I see that way of sizing do is confuse people further.

    lawman91
    Full Member

depends how you measure them how, by going on seat tube measurement yes the Datum is a 52cm technically, but they’re measured them by top tube and it’s the way I’ve gone about the sizing as it makes more sense that way when comparing them to other brands. I’m 6 ft 1 and the medium fits me great.

Ahhhh fair enough! In that case disregard my last post!

52cm this year would work out as XS, I ride a 2016 56cm Genesis Datum which is marked up as medium.

pretty much all sold out from what I gather so unlikely to be any deals around. LBS are no longer listing that size on their website so could be in short supply

Loving my Genesis Datum, hardly use my HT anymore so that’s going as if it’s mainly MTB I’ll use the FS, if a bit of road/off-road then the Datum does everything.

By contrast I owned a Mojo HD for 5 years and absolutely loved it. Sure it needed an angleset and was a smidge small, but on it’s day few bikes could live with it, to the point where I rode dozens of others in the period I owned and it wasn’t until I rode a Foxy that was I willing to part with it. The foxy runs rings round everywhere pretty much, except maybe in super, super tight trails.

Not many bikes have blown me away on demo days, as with other I generally buy blind, but the Foxy blew me away, and was thoroughly impressed by the T-130, but then I kind of knew it would be superb ride really. One that truly blew all my expectations out of the window was the Yeti Sb4.5c, I’ve never ridden a 29er I would consider buying, they all felt good speed wise, but pretty dull. The Yeti was an absolute animal, didn’t want to stay on the ground, super poppy, agile, great uphill, awesome fun downhill and made a relatively conservative rider like myself feel like they could slide, whip and scrub everything in sight. I want one, but then I’m also thinking there are a lot of short travel, burly 29ers out there for a lot less… more testing needed me thinks!!

Braided hoses these days are biggest way to throw money at your bike for absolutely no improvement whatsoever, except for making the inevitably badly tarted up anodized mess of bike they happen to end up on look even worse.

Have seen T130S’ with revs for a few hundred quid less than Yaris, sell the revs and with the money buy a Yari aftermarket and it’ll cost near as damn it the same as an S Yari if you can’t find one. Definitely worth it, rode an S with the revelation back to bike with an RS with a pike and really noticed the stiffer front end. 32mm forks have no place on a trail bike these days

If pushed with the thumb the 11 speed XT shifters can do two downshifts, however is using your finger to pull the lever you can only do 1 shift at a time and there isn’t a mod to change this AFAIK

Hopefully trying one out in a few weeks, I’m planning on going down from two mtbs to one, so hopefully it’ll ride like a dream and be a little easier to live with than my current steeds.

Too new and too popular, you’ll find very few bikes are discounted this time of year.

Nothing wrong with that at all, perfectly normal for any carbon frame.

HD.. Had an SL, then upgraded to HD and now (yesterday) bought an HD3 frame. Depending on what size you want I’ll have my HD frame for sale next week or so.

Either way. HD every time. It’s so capable.

What size/colour is it out interest, Philstone?

Don’t see the point of a full lockout on any bike tbh, the pedal mode on the RT is more than firm enough for eliminating any pedal bob on pretty much any bike, I’d be more concerned it doesn’t have a position between the two for when you want a decent blend of traction and efficiency.

It won’t be going cheap yet. There is huge demand for this and barely enough group sets to round, I’ve already seen some on eBay for more than RRP, my LBS has sold their initial allocation and that it could be July before they get more!

Grails are great but for the love of Christ if you do go down that route DO NOT go for Strada Biancas with them!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Long story short we fitted some in work t’other week on a set of Grails and it took 3 of us 4 HOURS and 3 tubes to get the bastards on. Never again!!! Personally I’d go either Hunt or as has been said the Racelights.

I’d say the Whyte. I’m intrigued by the Alutech as I also think it looks great and the geometry looks like it’ll be a blast, but the whyte is the more sensible option in ownership terms I think, UK brand, lifetime warranty on bearings etc. Both would be fantastic to ride though!

you can run a shorter shock on the HD so it has 130ish mm travel (not the 140 as they stated at the time) thats how I ran mine with a 150mm fork, awesome all round bike. Personally wouldn’t bother running it as 650b, clearance is naff all with a 26×2.35 Hans Dampf so by the time you fit a 650b tyre it’ll be a 2.1/2.2 and a skinny one at that max.

Owned a HD for many years and rode a few SL’s and SLR’s, much preferred the HD. Slacker, stiffer, ever so slightly longer and took everything I ever threw at it. Brilliant bike and kind of still wish I had it in all honesty.

Yep and to my detriment, sold my old Mojo HD through Facebook to a chap who was gonna split it down into parts and sell it all for a profit. Gutted.

Just swapped from Schwalbe to Maxxis. Long time Schwalbe fan but I didn’t really get on with their latest 650b tyres, felt pretty harsh and quite plasticky. Gone to High roller 2/ardent combo and it’s awesome, loads of grip, fast rolling, supple casings, just great really.

No gravel riding as of yet, but my commute consists of mainly country lanes that this time of year are covered in mud/general crap and the surface is horrendous in places, super bumpy and not remotely smooth. My old Scott road bike on 25mm gp 4 seasons was stiff as and sketchy as hell, the Datum is loads more comfortable and much more confidence inspiring. I’d often lose the front end on the Scott but not happened on the Datum yet, it’s just a super nice ride and very very good alround. I looked at a few bikes, GT grades and also had a brief look the Kona, but I just loved the Datum from when I first saw it. They are rare as hens teeth in certain sizes at the minute though, so you may have trouble tracking one down.

@sweetspot, the 33mm challenge tyres come in bang on 33mm on my Verniers and there’s masses of clearance in the fork and back end. You’d fit a 35mm g-one in no problem. I would have thought anything up to a 40mm tyre would fit front or rear, the fork clearance is huge so could possibly go a little bigger up front.

Got to be a Genesis datum if you can find one in your size. I’ve had my Datum 10 for 3 weeks now and it is unbelievably good, very fast on the road and even on the stock tyres it feels super confident off the beaten path. Can’t praise it highly enough!

I hate orange as much as the next man, but I’d be interested in having a razz on one of those! Weight isn’t important on shorter travel bikes these days, it’s how they feel. My foxy weighs 28lbs and is a beast on technical terrain, yet take it down something less technical or tighter and it suddenly feels a bit cumbersome and it feels like I’m lugging round a 160mm fork and bottomless feeling back end for little reason. There’s more shorter travel bikes with aggressive geometry showing up, T-130, Scout, 5010 to name but a few. Sure they might not be lighter than a longer travel bike these days, but in certain instances they can make more sense.

My two week old Genesis Datum. I’m not normally a roadie but work hours mean I largely don’t have a huge amount of time for the mtbs at present so commuting to work and a few short blasts on the road keep the legs ticking over so decided to treat myself to a Datum. I’ve ridden a few road bikes briefly before and had longer periods on one or two but the Datum blows them all out of the water, feels spot on from the off and is the first bike I’ve bought in 10 years I feel no need to tinker with at all. Top notch. My Mojo HD also felt pretty good from the off and just got better with time, still a little sad I sold it really, my Foxy also felt awesome to start with but now thinking it’s almost too good for its own sake. Ruddy fast bike but can feel a little underwhelming on lesser trails sometimes.
