Only just seen this post – my thoughts go out to Chris and his family, T-shirt bought

Had an s7 edge for 2 years now and its been on all my mountain bike trips, dropped it a good few times as well and its totally fine. Either ive been lucky or the other users have been very unlucky but my experience is that its a great phone and fine for mountain biking. I got a spigen cushion case which wraps round the edge of the phone but still renders the edge function useable… might have been a factor.

Running 1×9 on clutchless xt rear mech and nw chainring… Only dropped the chain once and that was going down Jacobs ladder, not dropped it anywhere else. Worth trying it out before splashing out on a chain guide I reckon

Yep… been using mine for the last 6 months now and its been flawless. Set up is a piece of piss, the action is very smooth and controlled, easy to make minor adjustments. The relatively compact remote lever makes bar set up painless as well. The lever gets a bit slick in the wet and can become a bit tricky to depress , not a big problem but it might benefit from some non-slip tape adding to the face of the lever. More important than all of that though is that it looks ace.
Cant comment on comparison to Reverb but my riding group all have them and they too have been excellent

Guy i ride with has been running some 650b forks and 26 wheels for about a year now, no problems at all. His plan is to upgrade to a 650b frame and wheels in the future. You’ll be fine

Got the new shape sharan last year and the boot is massive… can get my fs bike in there with both wheels on. Just slide the middle row seats forward and in it goes. Had a discovery before the sharan and can safely say the boot is bigger in the Sharan

AlexSimon – can i ask what the issue was with In-Gear ? Am about to have my forks done by them next week as well as some general fettling. Only heard good reports about them thus far. Used to go to Royles until (as others have mentioned ) they went Road bikes only and the mtb staff all buggered off ?

An update for those who may be interested. TF Tuned have assessed the corrosion damage and have agreed to supply me with a new rim under goodwill. They mentioned it could have been poor paint application at the factory ? Either way ive got a new rim coming… i wont be lubing the nipples on the new one every month though. Lets see how this one stands up

Thanks rudispanner…. DT Swiss makes no mention of lubing the nipples in their user or tech manuals. Just thats its cleaned post ride ( which i do ) that its not an aggressive cleanser ( which its not ) that you dont use a pressure washer ( which i dont ) and that you check the spoke tension and rotation every 10 hrs. Thats it. To be fair to TF Tuned they seemed very reasonable on the phone. Will see what they come back with after inspection

clubber – stored in a dry outbuilding. Up off the floor on a bike rack, but hung horizontally. Outbuilding is water tight and dry. 6 other bikes in there and none of them have this issue

bencooper – it looks like rust around the eyelets. The paint has cracked/split and is brown coloured on the edges. The paint is bubbled around the valve quite extensively… might be corrosion i suppose.

Thanks ned… im not happy about the response and have demanded they send them to TF Tuned for a second opinion. I wouldnt have an argument if i’d done any of the stuff above but i generally take care of my bike… parts are too expensive to replace to neglect them. The bike and wheels get cleaned after every ride with Fenwicks bike wash, no aggressive cleaners, chain lubed then its stored in a dry outbuilding. Every so often i’ll do a full strip down re-grease on all the major parts but thats it

I blame Orange. Lived just up the road from their original factory as a lad, then we moved to Elland and Orange moved factory to Holywell Green.
Bought my first proper mtb from them ( via a friend who knew Lester ), a ’92 Clockwork and have been hooked ever since.
Still riding Orange bikes 20 years later

You’ll need a fork with a 1 inch steerer for the very early ones, unsure what year they moved to 1 1/8th headtubes

drummer … its an attachment for a child seat, called a Weeride. The seat clips onto that bar between the headtube and seatpost. They certainly dont do paint jobs like that anymore and its a crying shame

asked this question myself just before Christmas last year…, like Ecky-Thump said you want a Ragley Stubbing or a Sunline V1. Went for a Stubbing myself (30mm stack)

Delamere forest ?… the way marked routes sound like they could be ideal. One is 5 miles, the other is 7. My 5 year old got round them both in one day and only had to get off and push once

Picked up a pair of Scott Mind shorts from start fitness a few months ago… great cut and fit and non flappy to boot. Ruinously expensive at RRP but worth a look if can pick them up cheaply enough

Duane… cause of crash was rider error, ended up otb on a rock garden and a fair pace. Most of impact was shoulder, elbow and head… didnt break anything thankfully but lots of swelling and cuts and the biggest bruise of my life. Its left me with a large lump on the joint of my shoulder and is still very uncomfortable even now.

The Coliseum in Halifax – a terrible club but absurdly easy to get into even at 15. Happy Days!

Wrightyson – we must have been in the same venues at the sametime
Krystals, Leicester, uni hunting ground 95 to 98 – one of the best nights ever with Alistair Whitehead as guest DJ. Just epic
Pleasure Rooms, Leeds, back to basics 93 to 95

I’ve got a very similar set up, can’t remember the precise steerer length on my forks but with a 20 inch 5 frame and hope headset I had to run a ragley stubbing stem (30mm stack height) with no spacers to get it all to fit. But it does fit and is absolutely fine. Ragley did the lowest stack height I could find….

Yep… got exactly that last night at -6, same with a couple of others in the group as well. Mech sticking slightly perhaps ?

mboy – i demoed a T-129s for 2 days and came to pretty much the same conclusions as your comments above. Very fast downhill, extremely good in loose rocky terrain and the geometry was pretty much perfect for me.
However it was ponderous in tight switchbacks up and down, really had to swing the front end round and, like a lot of full suss 29ers i suspect, felt slow and hardwork on long smooth climbs.

Like you i hated the sram kit and the brakes are beyond useless… i also felt the frame finish was poor quality and some of the welding looked pretty shabby. A good bike for 2k though.

Would i buy one ? No… i prefer the more involved ride of my Ti hardtail.

white101.. pain is only when riding. No pain when sitting or driving. I’ll try those stretches you mention above though. Thanks

Thanks for the replies… i hadnt considered it was me, makes total sense now you mention it. Can be several weeks between rides and no real exercise other than that. Time to do some core work methinks

    Much appreciated all !

As someone who grew up in Elland i feel well placed to comment. Top end of Victoria road near the secondary school is very nice, but the rest of it is a proper craphole and should be avoided at all costs.. id look at places down the Shibden Valley, Hipperholme & Lightcliffe or like spawnofyorkshire says down the Ripponden Valley.. especially Rishworth

You should consider one of these if he gets them back in stock…. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3000-Lumen-Fluxient-3x-XM-L-U2-with-solid-swivel-mount-brightest-on-the-market-/290750248045?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Cycling_Bike_Lights&hash=item43b210b46d

A very bright light that does run for 2hrs on max ( i know as i’ve done it several times ), 2 year guarantee and you get to trouser 60 quid. A win, win.

Roter Stern… your experience sounds awful. I’ve had 3 arthroscopy ops on the same knee for torn cartilege and they have all been as i described above. Slight swelling, walked out, rested for a week and then back riding.

    larrystumbles

I had exactly that problem/pain you describe… MRI scan confirmed it was torn cartilege. Its a quick and easy key-hole op to fix, basically go in and cut out the torn piece. Its done in about an hour, you’ll walk out and you’ll be up and riding in a couple of weeks max

I was sorely tempted by the Gloworm myself but found torchythebatteryboys light database and went for the 3000 lumen Fluxient. Its a fairly hefty unit but as a bar light i dont think it can be beaten for the price… the output is immense. Ceratinly very close to the claimed lumen count and the head unit is a quality item.

Had mates with R4’s and the magic shines letting me past as the Fluxient was casting such a massive shadow. It runs the full 2.5hrs on max without any fade and i’m mighty impressed with it, its so bright i can literally ride as quickly as i can during the day. 2 year guarantee makes it well worth a look in my opinion

Mboy – thanks for this. They look extremely well made from the pics on the site, great to hear your opinion of them.
I’ll drop Del a line and see if i can arrange a go with one of them..
    Cheers
