Nice work on the script – care to post it? Could be useful for when the GPS plays up…

After being told on Monday that my AccMart-via-Amazon purchased camera for £33.48 was being shipped by China Post (including tracking number!) it turned up today (3 days later!) with GB post-marks etc. Not sure whether I was just lucky or whether this would happen for everyone!

Camera looks and feels fine. Menu suggests it is SJ4000 with firmware dated 20140818V01. All feels good so far. Not entirely sure what some of the accessories do (the wire cable, the cable ties, the velcro bands, the arm bands), but will hopefully get a chance to try it out this weekend.

This was the link from which I purchased it AccMart Amazon link

    It was nicely retail packaged

    Here’s the firmware screenshot

Aha, hadn’t spotted that. You’ve just cost me £0.69 in buying it to try it out!

But getting the runs onto Garmin Connect would need you to either have a Garmin watch (which the OP doesn’t) or recording with either Strava or Endomondo and then exporting and uploading to Garmin Connect – no fewer steps than exporting and uploading to whichever app / webservice he chooses in addition to the one he uses to log the run “live”.
(Having said that, I use Sportstracker to capture the run, export from this, import to Garmin Connect which then pushes to Strava and FetchEveryone and then I manually upload to MyAsics – I’m not a good example of moderation in gpx uploading habits!!)
Whatever he chooses to do, it seems that Endomondo (or his phone) has screwed up the data with these runs.

Looking at that GPX file extract, the middle three of the points are all at the same location, implying you were stationary betwee 6h32m27s and 6h32m33s. So whilst the file looks technically correct, either the GPS was having some problems locking on to satellites a lot, or Endomondo has screwed up the trace!

Not a solution to your issue, but why not use Strava to record the run, and if you still want to maintain Endomondo details just export from Strava and import into Endomondo?

What do the map traces look like on Strava? Is it obvious from there where the time is lost (you can pan through the route and watch the timecode on the graph I think)?

As a penny pincher, trying out the accmart £38 option on Amazon. Doesn’t even say SJ4000 in the product title, but hey – even if it is a fake, how much worse are the fakes than the “real” SJ4000? Will see when it arrives anyway!

I’d like to hope I’d be under 40mins for the first 5 miles (and my son would probably be closer to 32 mins, as he’s a good XC runner). I am a bit timid on the bike though, probably not helped by it being not particularly great (Decathlon Big RR 5.3 29er) so whilst I can climb OK I tend to be a little cautious on the other stuff. Not expecting it to be easy (where would be the challenge in that!), but we’ll be heading up there in the next couple of weeks to re-familiarise ourselves with the red loop to see how its riding at this time of year.

Cheers, sounds like the sort of fun I was expecting! The run(s) won’t be an issue, I’m in 89minute half marathon shape at the moment, so those legs go around OK – though I need to sharpen up my off-road stamina with some 5 miler’s around where I live. I’m a shorts and t-shirt kind of runner, no matter what the weather (I’ll stretch to gloves and possibly a long sleeved top if its less than -5), but I reckon I’m going to need to be a bit better dressed for the ride. I reckon 1 minute in transition to pop on a few more layers would be time well spent!

I’m gonna get caned on the ride by most others, as I suspect this is a duathlon mostly undertaken by MTBers who can run a bit, rather than runners who can MTB a bit (me).

    Weather could be interesting though…
